Waddya ride that new junk for? You should be riding your Marathon, like me!

Fair enough. I will admit that the Marathon feels a bit unwieldy when it's loaded for my longer commute.

the latest version of the Surly Cross Check. Put some Geax Barro Race 700x45c and a 40deg power tool stem. I need some Midge bars or Wtb mountain Drops. Also, I am going to put an Ultegra triple crank on. I will mount one of my racks before Monday's commute.

Here is my Specialized Crossroads. I have it for about 1 1/2 years and put over 2,000 miles on it. Love the comfort it provides.

:winter2: I bought this Schwinn Sierra new in the mid 80's beat the s--t out of it for a few years then hung it up in the corner. I have just started commuting. Yes I thought winter in Illinois would be a good time to start, so I brought it down dressed it up with fenders, rack, lights, etc
And today it was 8 degrees out with 15 plus mph winds and still going strong it’s a tank Notice the rear u brake, strong with great stopping power but clogged with mud easy in wet muddy conditions or Biopace chain wheels (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/biopace.html). Remember these when they first came out. Well here it is |

Here are a couple crummy pictures of my Trek Soho. First, a flash photo that overemphasizes the reflective surfaces:
Attachment 135326 Main differences from the stock setup are these: * I replaced the awful grips with Bontrager Satellite Plus, half the price of the Ergon grips. I also picked up a pair of Cane Creek ergonomic bar ends on CL. * speedometer and lights up front, one to see and one to be seen. two rear lights, one on the seat post and one on the back of the basket. * I use both the supplied thermos and a standard water bottle. My lunch (usually leftover casserole) goes in the former. * instead of a saddle bag hanging from the seat I place it on top of the rods connecting the rear rack. more of a closeup of the handlebars Attachment 135327 |

Hello everyone! I'm currently a college student in Boston who rides everywhere. Here's my most used commuter bike, which is a 2004 Fuji Silhouette. Armed with a specialized Avatar to keep my bum happy and Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires for a year and a half so far of flat-free riding in the glass-ridden streets of Boston and New York. The trekking handlebars come in handy for multiple hand positions, and the ergon grips eliminated my wrist pain:
I made homemade panniers out of some old trashcans which I lug stuff around in: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/DSCN5119.jpg I've also put many years of drum lessons to use recently by spreading public music all around Boston. Strapped to the bars are a bucket, a synthetic woodblock, and a cowbell: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...e/DSCN7555.jpg Seeing smiles on peoples' faces while riding to class everyday is a very rewarding experience. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...medrumbike.jpg |

That jam block is louder than any bike bell on the planet. That is, unless someone sells a ship's bell with a handlebar mount. With a good whack, I've had those blocks echo across half a mile.
