What fenders are those on the blue and gray bike in the foreground? They look like good fenders for a winter bike.
My fender set up usually looks like this... my rear fender got broken while my bike was on loan so I need to replace that although the rack does a good job of keeping the spray off my backside. http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikepics/uav1.jpg |
Here is an update on mine. Nokian 35c studded tires rubbing everywhere and installed the original drops. Used Shimano 600? brake levers. Its still fixed but with brakes and no foot retention.

Very Nice, I have been contemplating the switch to wider fenders on my cross check, what with all the snow that gets packed in there while commuting. Any issues with clearance on those 48's?
My only gripe is that there's no L-bracket included with the kit. I used the "crown daruma" install method, described on VO website, to mount the front fender. This put the fender a little higher than I would like. Because of this, the tail end of the fender is further back; this creates a bit of toe overlap, which I've never had before. Next week, I'm going to make the fender hug the tire more. Hopefully this eliminates the toe overlap. |

My girlfriend has had this bike for a while, but since she won't join BF and post pictures of it, I have to do it for her.
Its a 2008 Specialized Globe City 7, and I love the bike. Its perfect for her: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4065/...4d6aa63e4a.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4004/...b15ff6fe36.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4068/...9bd58782e1.jpg |
Here's my 3rd grader riding home from school on his new 24" bike. He really likes the cargo rack.

mikeshoup, that bike is functional and beautiful.
HardyWeinberg, bravo to your son. Does he ride alone? |
I ride with him to sign him in/out of before/after school care program. If he was just there from 9-3 he would go by himself.

We're trying to get kids in our town to ride to school. In the middle schools, they need written permission from their parents. It is perceived as too dangerous. We're trying to break that perception, with education. "We" are the South Orange/Maplewood Bicycle Coalition, which I co-formed this past fall.
|
As far as I know there are no restrictions on kids biking to any of our schools. His grade school, and the middle and high schools he will go to if we stay put, are all pretty easily accessable, either on neighborhood streets or with explicit bike lanes (vs where we moved from where the grade school was on its own exit off a divided highway with no other connections).
It's only mildly frustrating at his current school they lock the doors by the bike rack as early as they can but never lock the doors by the parking lot (at the other end) until every last kid is gone (>6pm). |

What a load of doo doo! Good to see you breaking that trend.
When I was a kid I rode 2 miles to school when I was 10 and when I was 11 I had a paper route I did BEFORE school in Troy Michigan. Too much coddling is half the problem with this country. |

When I was a kid I rode 2 miles to school when I was 10 and when I was 11 I had a paper route I did BEFORE school in Troy Michigan. Too much coddling is half the problem with this country. Before I was 5 years old I walked by myself to kindergarten, a few blocks away from home. I also had the freedom to get up, and ride my trike in my pajamas around the block a few times while waiting for the grown-ups to wake up and make breakfast. When I was 9, I had the freedom to get on the transit bus with my friend (or by muself) and ride downtown to haunt all my favorite hobby shops all day Saturday. The whole time I was growing up,I was not missed at home between breakfast and lunch, and between lunch and dinner (or all day, with prior approval, for that matter). |
Update mine with new wheels.
