It's old, it's blue, and on a good day it gets me to the nearest light-rail stop in less than a half-hour.

Ah...she's stronger than she looks. Actually, she couldn't pedal (knees hit the groceries) so I pedaled for both of us. She is actually stronger than she looks, she's a gymnast.

Nice pic, but you two really need some panniers, baskets, or a trailer. It's not bad enough she's your stoker but she's gotta carry the bags, too? Shame! ;)

Very sweet... love the fixed mtb's.

Been riding my extrabike way more this winter than I have the U.A.V. as I always seem to be hauling or shopping or picking up the kids who love getting doubled on the way home... that and it's like a human powered snowmobile.

Can't wait until the weather looks like this again... :)

More commute, than bike. I took the picture because it was snowing pretty good, and it was supposed to come out all dramatic, or at least show how hardcore I am (to my non biking friends) but the camera managed to not pick up the snow at all...
:wtf:

I saw someone riding home during a section of the the news Tuesday where they were talking about how bad the commute was for some. It was pretty cool - they just rode right through the snow.

The Daily Grind, my '94 Nishiki Sport XRS, on my first commute with the new wheels. The old rear wheel was not stiff enough and was popping too many spokes.

That's quite a difference from the road bikes you have. I bet it does a great job.

I had to look twice though, to notice this actually isn't on my own commute. I come across a very very similar location during my ride.

Nice ride.

Chain seems a little tight on what must be the big / big combination.

It was actually the first bike I bought when I started to get back into cycling. I paid $100 for a 1994 model bike that was NOS (still had store price tags on it). It's been my workhorse. I've given it a lot of abuse and a few upgrades. ;)

Yeah, that's big/big. The cranks were replaced about a year ago under warranty for the Shimano recall of the mid 90s. It came with a standard retrofit kit from Shimano that included new cranks, chain rings, front derailleur and chain.

noglider 02-12-10 08:17 AM

Can you tell the story of the Shimano recall? I was out of touch at the time.

Doohickie 02-12-10 01:02 PM

There is a link to the recall notice in my previous post. It talks about how to determine if a crank is recalled and what to do if it is. I think they are still honoring it (at least they did for me about a year ago).

In my case, someone pointed it out to me just before Christmas 2008, so I didn't ride the bike anymore until after it was fixed. My LBS is fairly new and had never gotten certification as a Shimano dealer. I told them I could wait and it ended up taking almost 3 months for them to get certified (lots o' paperwork). In the meantime, I commuted on the Dumpster Queen.

noglider 02-12-10 03:26 PM

Got it. Thanks. I will investigate.

Two questions: Is that a fish club you have mounted behind you seat tube? And who is it for?

3 years of commuting =95% of pure fun,the other 5% = one less dog nipping at my heels or for certain DIP$@%&$ ## that drive 2 miles to work and running late!

True. As I slowly upgrade and modernize, the mechanic at the LBS says some frames aren't worth it, but this one is.

That's a pretty tall frame you got there.... 25"? 26"?

noglider 02-14-10 03:52 PM

Who made Nishikis?
