I've put many miles on this bike. An early '70's American Eagle/Nishiki. The big changes are things like cotterless cranks and an avocet saddle and the all important back rack, in this case a genuine pletscher rack. No fenders, as this was California. And Cat-Eye lights for night commuting.

My current ride is a citified Specialized Hard Rock. I added fenders and the all important back rack. Shortly after this pic, I put on street slicks on the rims. Little Rock streets are worse and a lot hillier than Palm Springs was, so this works well. And Cat-Eye lights for night commuting.

Updated pictures of the DEAN with the winter look. Flat bar and the sporty rear fender. Still have to put the 700/28's on.

using this 06 Lemond poprad to get me around. I'm getting into cross and there some dirt to play in on the way to work....lots 'o' fun! just added this Topeak RX rack and bag which I am sure will do wonders. i get to dress casual at work every day so no need for any more room than this. cateye trailrat for those grand night time near death experiences....i mean rides. 15 miles never felt so good.

Here is my ride, a 2005 Scattante XRL frame that I built up using parts from my "old" commuter that was 1996 C'dale 2.8 frame build. I use the Supergo HL20 headlight (use the 20w light only) with a Niterider white LED strobe in front with 2x flashers in back (1 on helmet, one on seatpost). It is nice and comfortable for my 31 miles each way.

One good Rivendell deserves another. Here is my 59cm Cantilever Romulus (aka Cantirom) with saddle bag & lights. I love riding this thing. It looks a lot nicer in person.

I'm 6'5". Most "modern" fit systems/methods would put me on about a 63cm road "racing" frame. Rivendell's fit method (http://www.rivendellbicycles.com/htm...framesize.html), which emphasizes rider comfort and a more upright riding position puts me on a 68cm frame. The Quickbeam is a 68cm frame with 700c wheels. I also have a 68cm Rivendell Atlantis, which is my geared bike. Once I started riding the Rivendells I've found "traditionally" (by modern standards anyway) sized frames to be quite uncomfortable by comparison.

AJRoberts: Very nice looking canti-Rom! Nice parts selection. What type of bag is that?

The parts are pretty much the stock Riv build. They were offering a pretty good deal if you didn't deviate from the part list. Cranks are Sugino XD, FD/RD and hubs are Shimano 105, Ultegra headset, nitto stem/bars/seat post.

The bag is a Carradice Nelson Longflap on a Carradice SQR. This bag carries everthing I need, and can be expanded to carry more than I should ;)

Wow, some great and diverse looking bikes here! Here's my 05 Crossroads 'Sport' base model, I've added a WTB ComfortV seat, Soul black seatpost, PlanetBike blinkies, Wellgo road pedals, a detachable rear mudfender and some cages. I've got a ten minute commute to school followed by a (for now) 37 minute uphill return trip. I've ridden mountain bikes in the past and hated the ergos of weight on the hands, the Crossroads is a whole other level of comfort and utility. The 700x38c hybrid tires can handle any Frisco pothole and as I found out last week are decent in mud/dirt.

Future plans for the bike include more wax and stickers to protect the frame and some clipless pedals around the holidays :) plus any other weird farkles that catch my eye at the LBS

Full-size-drive forevar!! 11-30T cassette + 48-36-24 on my ancient XTR cranks. Yes, that crankarm was gloriously pearl-anodized once upon a time...

I just replaced the chain, cassette, big chainring, rear derailleur, and shift cables, which is why everything's so clean. I also added that Grunge Guard RD cover and slapped on my SRAM Nitecrawler seal for the rear-derailleur shift housing to keep water and dirt out. Once we've got snow and ice, I'll install my old IRC Blizzard studded tires.

Planned upgrade: get some Jandd Mini Mountain Panniers and install my old Blackburn LowRider front rack, so I don't have to carry weight on my back anymore. :)

My Brand New Specialized Rockhoper Sport Single Speed. I love this thing. My commute is short, 1-2 miles and this bike is perfect, I actually wish my commute was longer because I love riding so much.

Here's my commuter, a 2000 Gary Fisher Big Sur. Stock except for Wippermann chain, Rival MTB saddle, Flak Jacket tires, bearclaw pedals, sks fenders, crowbar handlebar, cateye & cygolite lighting & numerous stickers. I'm considering swapping out the manitou for a rigid fork, but am not fully convinced.
