Just finished project "Please don't steal my bike while im in class in the dark part of campus", the title needs work. It came out a little, uh, redder then I thought it was going. That being said it actually rides really well and I won't be heartbroken when it gets ganked. Just need to find a nice rack that I can strap my bag to and im good. Thoughts on which red thing to ditch first or leave as is?

updated pic of my Gitane commuter. I'm glad I added the fenders, we have been getting rain pretty much every single day since I installed them :) The rear rack is also new, and very helpful. Next is some powerful lighting.

My daily commuter is a 1987 Schwinn World Sport, my commute is about 6mi one way. The only upgrades so far are Schwalbe Marathon tires (27x1-1/4), brake levers and cables, and el-cheapo front and rear lights. I'm considering a rear rack and new bars, either bullhorns or short risers. I have around $120 total into this bike and by the end of the summer it will have paid for itself in gas savings! I love this bike and take any excuse I can to ride it.

New Cummunter..Finaly!!

Picked up my new communter today Marinoni Fango with 105.. through months of procrastination and visiting numerous shops. I walked into local Hamilton bike shop owned by Ex top Canadian racer and Olymipian (70s/80s) Brian Chewter. Sold me what he felt I needed at my riding lvl and style. Hung out for a few hrs after I was sized up, saddle and peddles added. Looking forward to those long rides now.

Here is my latest build for every day use during summer, which I assembled with used and NOS 90's parts:
Sunn Vertik CroMo MTB frameset, Chris King headset, 3ttt road race handlebar, Shimano XT and 105 parts, Sachs Quartz hubs, Mavic 26" rims and other 20+ years old stuff (e.g. the "antique" Lyotard pedals). Finally the bike got pimped with a Brooks Swift leather saddle and bamboo fenders. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=209200 |
That's one beautiful ride, wasabi.

Happy 4th guys :) Here's a picture of my spot for the festivities this weekend:

I've been lurking for a few weeks, I just signed up so I guess I'll post.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...tasty/bike.jpg Specialized Globe Daily 2. I love it, yes I do. I love it so much I ride it on 30 mile journeys to nowhere and then my bum hurts. |
Looks like a fine ride to me.

I want that saddle :(

2 bikes in a week is a little too much for me, but luckily got Saab cheaply for my brother commuting.

I suppose the funny thing is that it's the stock saddle.
How did you get your grips to stay looking good? The rubber ones on my Haul quickly faded and turned a really nasty grey/brown pretty fast. |

Unfortunately, my stock Globe/Specialized saddle on my Haul was far from adequate for my body. I ditched it in favor of a Brooks after 400-500 miles. Looked good on the bike though.

I'm not sure if any of those actions are prolonging them from turning a different colour, but I have noticed that the saddle and grip colours have slowly moved to hues that don't match each other as well. Maybe Specialized/Globe could have changed the grip material? |

My bike is 3 weeks old and has about 200 miles on it, it's been left out in the rain a few days while I was at work, but I try to keep it inside when I know it's going to rain. I tend to wipe down the grips daily to get my sweat off of them (and there is quite a bit of that).

I just got to work, second ever bike commute day. Riding a Mongoose Switchback, a bike I haven't seen anywhere else that I've looked. My parents bought it for me when I was a teenager, in a local bike shop. 6 months later, they started selling Mongoose in Wal-Mart and ever since everyone has assumed I ride a walmart bike.

It's a mountain bike, and pretty much is stock... I replaced the lugged off-road tires with armadillo crossroads, put ergon grips on, and replaced the seat with a different one...
The bike's too small for me (i'm 6'2) now, but I'm too fat to even consider a road bike, and I can't justify the expense. My promise to myself is that if I ride this enough to wear out the tires, I should be in good enough shape to get myself a better bike... so I'll keep riding this the rest of the summer. As fat as I am currently, I don't think a lighter bike is in any way justified. |
