Nice Volpe. How's riding with the Viscacha? I've been tempted to get one to use my road bike for light, multiple day rides.

The picture shows the bag right about at minimum capacity (I carry less on Fridays) but on most commutes I have the bag fully loaded (work clothes and shoes). I notice the extra weight but it doesn't affect handling too much; it's not much higher than a trunk bag on a rack would be.

Lol! That actually gave me a chickle. It's a small little tool pouch that has just enough room for a spare tube, tire lever & patch kit. I attached it to the back of my Wald basket that I added to the rear rack. I also got these handy-dandy panniers that clip nicely to the basket:

Just waiting for a chance to take some good pics :)

@mechanicalron: I do intend to pick up or make a extended flap for the front fender, good call. It's a fairly new build so additions will be made as the needs come up.

Co-Motion Norwester Tour. 2010 model, custom frame size, since I'm kind of strangely built. Been riding it to work every day for over 2 years now. Changed the bars is all. Cheap Bor-Yeah rack and custom fender extension crafted by my bike mechanic wife.

I've been commuting on this almost exclusively since I built it up a couple of weeks back. I just added a Wald basket to the rear rack also, and got some great panniers for shopping trips that convert from pannier to backpack, so I will need to take some updated photos soon too.

That is a good looking commuter! I've been looking for an old peugeot to convert into a commuter for a while; nice find.

That was the original set of FSA Omega bars. They just sold on Ebay, actually.

I couldn't stand that bend, so I replaced them with a set of FSA Omega Compact 44cm.

cobrabyte 06-02-12 01:09 PM

Thanks for the kind words guys.

And I'm with you Sixty Fiver: this is one of my favorite threads on the forums / these commuting bikes all have a character and seem to reflect the owners very well :)

Yea, FUN!

Here is my newest commuter that I plan to be my new primary commuting bike. Its a Citta Gazelle minivelo I got on eBay on a tip from a member on the Folding Bike forum. I plan to add a rear rack and panniers and do a dropbar conversion. Its pretty great just what I was looking for. It performed well on the commute on Friday and was wonderful on the 20+ mile ride I took this morning. Here are some pics from this morning's ride.

monsterpile - The Gazelle looks like it lives up to it's namesake... was there any pronking happening during your ride ?

Hauling 30+lbs of cat food on the rack and in the pannier on the way home from work Thursday...Not used to carrying that much weight, it was interesting!

cobrabyte 06-02-12 09:46 PM

All set up for everyday stuff. The panniers do add a noticeable weight, but they'll be a huge convenience and they pop off the basket easily.

LOL I had to look "ponking" up to see what it meant. The frame seems plenty stiff but its not as responsive as my Windsor Shetland, but thats not surprising given their relative geometry. The Citta has a 42 inch wheelbase which seems fairly long.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...atrace/001.jpgIlove it! I have this Moulton that is GREAT with loads. It must be the low gravity thing but a fast bike with little wheels is a trip at speed and fun! This one is a 1964 with a 4 speed hub.

That Giant Seek is so cool -- yet it's almost like the Bad Boy I used to own and later sold. There's another model at my LBS with an Alfine 8sp. I should test-ride it to see how much I like its IGH.

Awesome, I love it. I'm sold on a Surly being my first real "new" bike. Now...time to save up for one.

groovestew 06-04-12 12:35 PM

Well, even though I started a new thread for this one, I'll post it here as well. Custom build using a Surly Disc Trucker frame, Shimano Alfine 8 IGH, and Avid BB7 brakes.

I'd prefer a longer wheelbase... and a straight frame. My Shetland has neither. :(
