Also, what kickstand is that? My commuter doesn't have a chainstay bridge, so I'm looking into something different.

My new baby, 2012 Raleigh Talus 2.0:
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...730_201400.jpg Ram Mount for my phone/gps/other device: http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...730_201426.jpg Not much for upgrades yet, just got it. I probably won't do too much with it, though I might go with some different handle bars, grips, and saddle. I have a quick release bike rack that's I use for commuting as well. Just some cheap Bell lights on the front and back but they actually work pretty good. Whole setup to this point ~$350, not bad for a low budget bike. Rides nice on paved trails for a MTB. I'm way out of shape and obese but I can pump and maintain 16 mph on it and stretch to about 22 at times. Only 10 miles on her so far. |
Went to visit my friend up in Canada so I brought my bikes and went for some rides. Here is the Touring/Commuter along the Ottawa River

Welcome to Ottawa, XLinked!

So....since I have to commute on every bike I get, I'm going to post my soon-to-be road bike next to my Nashbar CX commuter. It's a Fuji SST 3.0 and I cannot wait to call it mine. Oh, and I may have a bike problem/addiction. :/

Looks nice! It looks like the San Jose has rack braze-ons, any reasoning for choosing a beam-type seatpost rack over a standard one?

I've been favoring this as my main commuter...
http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/a...7/photo-40.jpg http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/a...7/IMG_0728.jpg I switch bikes like women switch shoes, but this one sticks, and it's the one that I use the most over all. it does everything well and it's setup perfectly as a city commuter. http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/a...lk67/photo.jpg http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/a...67/photo-4.jpg Because of the recent accident, this is the bike I'm stuck with for at least a couple more months: http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/a.../photo-116.jpg |

2011 Scott Sportster 10
This is the bike that takes me to work and back every day, 38 km round-trip.
Half of it on pavement, the other half on gravel roads and even a couple of km on singletrack. Changes and additions to the stock bike: Wheels - I got a killer deal on a pair of Crank Brothers Cobalt 29er. I've kept the original wheels as my winter set with studded tires on. Saddle and pedals - transferred from my old commuter. Chainguard - Mostly to keep the chain free from snow spraying from the rear wheel in winter. Snow that otherwise would find its way to the derailleurs and clog them up. Bar-ends - Topeak Bar’n Mirror Lights - Dinotte 1200+ in front and a Dinotte 140L tail-light Mud flaps - NOS from the 70's that I found on eBay. http://www.jensenjensen.com/img/scot...www_bf_110.jpg http://www.jensenjensen.com/img/scot...www_bf_109.jpg I love this bell :D http://www.jensenjensen.com/img/scot...www_bf_107.jpg Fenders and rack are Scott's "Urban Kit". The rack is made by Topeak and is MTX compatible. http://www.jensenjensen.com/img/scot...www_bf_112.jpg Many think that the rack sitting directly on the fender with no other support looks flimsy, but the looks are deceiving. The fenders are made of box-section aluminum and the fender stays are L-profile fiberglass composite. That adds up to a super-stiff assembly. I have ridden the bike with 20 kg (45 lbs) on the rack and it doesn't move at all. |
More info on that chain guard you're using? I've looked for one that could be used with derailers and multiple chain rings, but haven't seen one until yours.

Is that the Topeak MTX EX? Are you happy with it or do you wish you had gotten the A/E/V type? I currently have the Explorer on my main commuter, but I am looking for a rack for my upcoming road bike that does not have the braze-on's.
I will say - and this is completely in vain - I prefer a more traditional look to my commuters and the beam rack tends to be a bit too "modern" of a look to me. It is functional, though. :) |

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/m...G0623_crop.jpg Could you tell me more about this bike? It looks like you have an IGH hub (which one?) controlled by an STI type shifter (which one?) What is the rear spacing on the San Jose? |
