Wow, how much of a difference does that fairing make?

Mumonkan 03-07-13 10:46 PM

where do you put that thing when you get to your destination? im sure you dont just lock it to a signpost

noglider 03-07-13 11:37 PM

Well, the deal went down like it was supposed to. I sold the Kaitai back to the original owner, and picked up my new bike this morning.

Here it is straight from the LBS. Swapped the headlight, computer, and air pump from the old bike to this one. Upgrades are coming. When I get them on, I post up the pics.

At this point I'm happy as can be. Every short ride I have taken starting last evening, and several today have made me like it a little more. Took it for about a 30 min ride this morning before I pulled the trigger. Wound up changing the stem for a 25deg to make it fit my old bones a little better.

Not the best fenders, I know, but that's all I got laying around. :)

pepox369 03-10-13 12:09 PM

I think it looks pretty cool! I think that maybe with thin tires they would do good. and I bet they are quite light!

Thanks!

I actually like the tire width, so I will just have to pony up some $$ for a pair of SKS Longboard fenders.

I've been steadily transforming my daily commuter into a touring rig and have changed quite a few items from the last time I posted a pic here.

Here's a pic from today's practice ride with around 18 lbs of weight in the pannier.
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8379/8...e31c2ab3_c.jpg

Changes done....
  • new wheels (Mavic A719 rims with DT-Champ 2.0 spokes and D3N20 dynohub, Deore LX rear hub)
  • trekking handlebars (thanks again fietsbob!)
  • shorter gearing for hills under load
  • B&M CyoT IQ front light and stock Spanninga rear light running off the dynohub

...also ordering new rear panniers and front handlebar bag within the new few days and off I go on weekend+ credit card tours!

Chris_in_Miami 03-10-13 05:53 PM

Great photo Telly! Your bike looks like it's pretty well equipped already, but the handlebar bag will be a great addition.

I got this on Feb 14th. My first new bike in over a decade and my first road bike ever. I've finally added everything I want to it:

I think it would be much nicer with a Rohloff on it... too bad I can't afford one yet, sigh! :(

Hmm... no nameplate (serial number?), a bit fuzzy on the details of it's servicing and no return policy... naaaahhhhh, probably "borrowed" from a "friend"!

IMO items such as the Rohloff shouldn't be bought used (unless you know the previous owner) since the cost of repairing one is too high to risk.

A frankenbike I put together at the local community bike center! I still need full fenders and a rack. Gotta love the mustache!

That looks nice! I like the green and brown color combination.
How long is the stem?

frankenbike's rule, especially those rescued from bike co-ops!

My first adult bike, a 20 year old Trek 700, now setup for commuter duty.

Here's my commuter/exercise/utility etc bike. It's an early 90s Giant mtb. Replaced the knobby tires with commuter-type ones, and spray painted away the orange swirl paint job and oversized make/model text. Fenders are cheap Avenirs, seatbag and basket also. Lights are from Harbor Freight and the pump is a Topeak.

Nice! I just bought the same bike on Monday. Expect to get the racks & fenders on this weekend. Rode it to work the past two days below freezing. Coworkers thing I'm crazy. I say it beats biking in humidity & heat.
