My brother got me a set of Ortlieb panniers for a late birthday gift and I'm lovin' them!

This is my commuter. The stem is 1 or maybe 2 cm too long so I have the bars set up a bit funny.

Thanks, scoatw! The suspension is RST Gila T5 with 80mm travel, which came stock on the bike when it was new. Yes, indeed, I have a series of locks, but I also have help! I lock it daily in front of a busy grocery store at a bike rack. One day, when I was getting it ready to head home, the head maintenance guy (a cholo looking man) walked up and said "Nice Bike", and we had a 20 minute friendly conversation about everything under the sun! When I finally started to ride off, he said "And don't worry about your bike when it's locked here, man, no one's gonna **** with it here - we're watching it for you". Nice to have allies in this world!

Nice looking commuter. Panniers don't look too large and the bar ends will provide additional hand positions. Hopefully it all went together without too much trouble!

Chad......Nice......What is the top end (cruising speed) and is it new vintage? I'm also interested in PSI of tires, becuase my dad had a Western Flyer beach cruiser and only aloud 35 psi. Bike was sloooooooow.

Enjoy!

Yeah, it's modern "vintage". Schwinn 7-speed, something like 44/14-26-ish. It's not real quick, but I make my urban assault commute in 45 minutes or so - six miles with several really long lights across 4-6 lane roads. The current tires are 40 PSI. Actually, it cruises OK. I'm not in a hurry. I got the bike from my brother's widow - it was chained up outside his apartment. I've commuted in the past on road bikes and MTBs. My MTB kept being "borrowed" by my now 19 y.o. as he kept trashing his bikes!! Anyway, it gets the job done - not quickly but in style!! I also ride a motorcycle so convincing She Who Must Be Obeyed (SHMBO) that I need a different bicycle is not happening until after the bathroom remodel!

Here is my trusty Trek back in the rotation as a winter bike. I have my homemade studded tires on it and I am planning on riding it to work tomorrow. I like to call it the Snow Patrol bike. I took it out the day we got a bunch of snow here. It did ok except the thick layers of slush from the wet snow was too much for it. I didn't put it together with that in mind though. It should keep me upright when I go over the patches that aren't cleared off on my ride which was what it was intended to do.

The Norco finally got to see some winter... and I was up for my usual 20km loop to the co-op on Saturday as I have been riding less to let the buggered ankle heal up.

Oddly enough, the riding is much less painful than standing and walking as long as I take it easy.

(Picture Snipped for Brevity)

The best pictures are always the snow pictures - they make me want to go ride my bike!

Looks like you have gotten a good deal of snow... it feels more like spring here which makes riding the most treacherous as when you least expect it you might find yourself riding across serious patches of ice.

Find that with the studs the ice is not as much of a pain as the deep slush on the uncleared roads.

Here's my build with a Nashbar touring frame. I outlined the build progress in this thread:

I like your bike. Is that the topeak explorer rack with trunk bag? I've been trying to find a good rear blinkie light for mine. Which one do you use? Looks like a nice big light.

That bike is insane, very cool kingfish! Do you have any more photos of it or a build thread somewhere?

Looks like the Planet Bike Super Blinky. The Portland Design Works Radbot 1000 has a similar super-strong flashy LED, but instead of the other weaker backup LEDs has an integrated Euro reflector. Get either depending on your preference...they're both fantastic.

Thanks and yes, that's the Topeak rack & bag. As reducedfatoreo mentioned the light is the planet bike super blinky. It's pretty bright and the blink mode is very noticeable.

But the light is outdated, an older model. It is a Planet Bike Superflash 1/2 watt. They have a new one called the Superflash Turbo that has a 1 watt LED that is (for the price) awesome. Get the Turbo if you're gonna go Superflash!
