new upgrades on my sirrus

i already posted some pics awhile ago but figured i would add some with the new upgrades which are. a pair of specialized infinity flak jacket 700x35c tires, a 50.00$ craigslist bob trailer (gotta love the c-list), a cateye reflex taillight on the rear of my rack, a greenfield kickstand which is really handy, a specialized phenom expert saddle, and a titec h-bar with bar tape/and ergon grips very comfy works great so far but i have only used it once since it was all done. hope to get some more miles on it asap but have been to busy riding my mountain bike lately.

05kas05, those bars look like the wings on a 767! So wide. Nice upgrades, though.

its funny you should say that when i was doing my search on these and the jones loop h-bar i thought the same thing.i wanted the jones loop h-bar first but i didnt want to spend 120.00 on something i might not like so i found the titec version for 48.00 shipped on pricepoint. it definitly looks wide but at the widest point grip end to grip end it only measures 27" so although the shape is different and it looks wide it is no wider than a regular mountain bike bar. the bars on my camber comp measure the same width. so far they seem to be a great upgrade. i will give a better update once i get some more miles on them.

My almost finished Varsity commuter, just needs fenders and better brake pads.

Nice!
Those things are built to last.

slolane 02-15-12 02:06 PM

Well it's been 14 months of commuting with my Mendota and I love it, works perfectly and is fairly quick.

Here is how it is currently setup (sometimes without fenders)...
http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/q...g/dfe6e5e3.jpg

I have 2 different sized front handlebar bags, 2 different MTX trunks (1 with zip-out panniers, 1 without), fenders, lights, horn, etc.

The only items on the bike I have changed are... different Ergon grips and a shorter handlebar stem.

Haven't had any mechanical issues thus far, only performing the following... keeping the bike clean, drivetrain cleaned and lubed and tires pumped up to 85psi.

Cheers!

slolane - that's a great looking bike. If you carry a pump, do you keep it in the rear bag?

Also, is that one of those "airzound" things in the bottle cage?

Thanks so much, it's a lot of fun. I got it as an end of year sale and have been very happy with it.

I carry a pump and 2 tubes, the pump is a fairly small one that fits in the front bag, I got one small enough to fit on the frame of my road bike but now that you bring it up I should have a larger (easier) to use one for this bike, since I ride this one the most.

Yes, that is an airzound, I really like it, works great. For the few times I have had to use it the drivers heard me with their windows up! ;)

Thanks again!

:)

Removed the rack, panniers, and toe clips. The rack and panniers are great when I go shopping, but are way more cumbersome than a backpack when I'm just going to class. (the 27 stairs and four doors between the street and my dorm room are much easier to navigate without the rack too)

wisaunders 02-16-12 03:13 PM

Here she is at work. She's getting a wash, new tires and new break pads this weekend.

Wow, that's blurry, I'll get a better pic tomorrow.

Be sure to bogart all the spaces like wisaunders does for extra style points...

Just kidding, I see that it's not locked that way...

Frankenbike 5 years on!

Start as a beat up Avanti Blackthunder about 5 years ago.

Now looks like this.

Is starting to look a bit ratty thanks to rattle can paint job.
Only original parts are the frame and forks. Great for my 11km commute.
Considering an orange powdercoat :D

There's more pics there if you're curious, but this one (while not a great photo) probably shows the color better than the others.

Not yet. I'm enjoying it too much right now, sans fenders. I'm also still trying to decide which width tires I'm going to run, before I buy the fenders.

That Titec H-bar intrigues me. Kind of pricey, but I think I'll get it to play around with.

Me too, although it looks like I should go with the newer Loop version. I wish the search feature worked better, I'm sure there must be threads about these bars, but I'm not having any luck finding them...

The loop bar is a Jeff Jones original, as is the H-bar. Titec makes a version of the H-bar under license from Jeff.

I love my loop bar and can highly recommend it.

I'm trying to learn to be more minimalistic and NOT attach too much stuff to my bike(s) and the loop bar will encourage me to attach all sorts of gadgets to it :) I'm thinking about my touring/weekend bike. I need to learn to go light for those long rides.
