Thanks for all the compliments. A couple times Nashbar had some Breezer bikes for pretty good prices, but I never pulled the triggler because I sold a Bianchi Milano a couple years ago and I couldn't spend more than I sold that for in my mind although the main reason I sold that is it felt too cramped. I might switch out the tires today on the Breezer and do a test run to my new work place just to see how it rolls. For a sub 3 mile each way commute this should do just fine most days. I'll probably ride other bikes too though as usual.

That came out great, nice work!! I'm planning to add drop bars and a derailleur setup to my Mk 3 someday, yours definitely gives me some inspiration :)

I cannot claim any responsibility for anything but the bar swap... it is a bicycle that my friend built up (he is a master mechanic). I really like the steps and range on the Shimano 7 speed over the steps on the 8... they are much more even and feel a derailleur gear on a bicycle with 16 inch wheels warrants a massive chain wheel and some really small rear cogs.

Might play with a Shimano 600 crank and a 52 tooth ring tomorrow... just to see what the vintage crank looks like and bump the gearing up a little.

It got a bell and clipless pedals today... really cannot ride without my gimpy left foot securely attached to the pedals.

Riding the back up as the Kuwie gets some paint and overhaul/new parts, didn't realize it has already seen 15k miles since any real overhaul. I may bump the original build thread when I finish her. Back up bike is a hardrock with a ragtag of old parts and hand me downs, though I think once the kuwie gets done I may actually put some money into the ole rock.

Has been a week for small wheels... my custom P20 got fenders last fall but yesterday was the first time I needed them. Was out on a parts run when the storm hit and it got a little damp on the ride home.

65er, what does the Twenty weigh with accessories removed? You've got a lot of aluminum stuff on it. I have no immediate plans to change my crank or fenders.

And what do you have for a headset and stem? If you have a thread about it, please direct me.

I have no idea what it weighs naked but would estimate that it is in the low 30's.

The headset is a Tange Levin and the stem is an old steel thing I found and then rebuilt... am planning on building a full custom stem to go with the rest of the custom work... the rear triangle is new (4130 chromoly) and the fork is also new.

Replacing the cottered crankset can usually knock off a pound.

Forrest has his own webpage now... that needs a few more updates. :)

Looks good -- thanks for the build photos! I did the same thing with a dark dirty blue CC (but mine is 60cm), building it up first from a donor bike, but eventually I filled out the build and got the donor bike back too. Here's my report.

If you have another set of wheels or can at least swap to wider (37+) tires for some off-roading, then I'd say this is truly a do-everything bike!

What kind of Surly is that anyways? I can't read the top tube. The decal looks long enough to say CrossCheck, but it looks like you've got your rack attached with clamps, which implies no rack mounts, which means maybe Pacer?

Here's my low end hybrid commuter.... I actually really love this bike. It rides very nicely. Gonna look into get a more roadsie bike as well for exercise.

Well that certainly is a nice way to debut on BF! What is that, flat bar, rack, and disc brakes on an Orbea?

The saddle is actually an Origin 8 leather saddle. I'm not sure about the quality difference between that in a Brooks, but it feels and rides fine.

The black things on the rack mounts are actually vinyl tape to prevent the mounts from damaging the paint. So, yes, it is a CrossCheck.

It's an Orbea Carpe 30. Came with a narrow flat bar which killed my wrists after three months, I installed an On-One Fleegle bar with some knock off cheap-o ergon like grips and bar ends from e-bay. Love this bike. Time for some new tires. Ideas?
