ive been using the superflash for about a year and i have no complaints

gonna get the hotshot next time i need a new light, though ive heard that the mount sucks

PatrickGSR94 08-19-13 03:10 PM

On the contrary, the Hotshot mount works great for me. I will say that I decided to add a few small washers in the mount clamp to make the clamp a bit more rigid when I tightened down the clamping screw (gives the screw something to tighten against instead of just pushing the 2 clamp ends closer and closer together). But doing that makes the mount very solid. The light itself goes into the mount with a nice solid "click" and also comes out of the mount easily enough, but not so much that you feel like it will come out on a harsh road surface.

Here's my cx bike turned commuter. Just got the Zefal Trail fenders and they work wonders on my GT, not to mention look great as well. Nothing special at the component level, but I am loving this ride so far!

What a fantastic idea!
How's the fit and ratio's for her?

My bike, in it's spot at the office.
I'm trying to commute 1 day a week. It's 23 miles there a bit over 24 back.

I put insane miles on the car due to family duties. But this day is for myself.

They are called "Lightweights for wheels" comes in a pack of 80 or so (more than enough) , go on quite easy and are almost unnoticeable unless at nighttime. I'll see if i could get a shot of the wheels spinning and see what it looks like. Thanks!

I'm surprised I've never seen those mentioned here in the Commuting forum before. They look very effective!

I have them on my road bike. Sometimes when the sun hits them right (and they're very clean!) you can see them in the day time.

Nice Schwinn! I like their frame graphics from the late 80s, Tempo probably being my favorite

Can't speak for the Cygolite, but I run the PlanetBike Super Blinky, and can confirm that it is visible from low-earth orbit. People have actually stopped and asked me if I know how bright my tail light is; riders I pass on the MUP curse my name; motorists are intimidated into a respectful follow distance; small animals flee into the underbrush as the red blinky terror approaches. I love that light.

nyrikki 08-20-13 10:15 PM

I wore out a le tour of that vintage :) I wanted a tempo but couldn't find the extra money. Great to see you still riding it although the concept of a "clean" bike confuses me.

Overhauled my right ergo and swapped out the red cork for black tape, think I'm done toying with this for a while. I'll call this bike finished. For now.

Brake cable's a little long there, eh?

Lovely bike otherwise. (And I probably wouldn't even have noticed the cable except it's bright red!)

Just finished modding my two vintage commuters with lights, reflectors, racks, and fenders. I'm still thinking about adding mirrors and a better front light than my trusty cateye. My two vintage commuters are a 1993 Bridgestone XO-2 and a 1989 Specialized Stumpjumper Comp:

Nice; my first "real" commute is tomorrow as well as I just drove to my office to leave my sports jackets hanging behind the door. I've commuted a fair bit but only on days that I didn't have to worry about the dress "code."

colo54 08-25-13 11:52 AM

Fortunately, I don't have a formal business dress code and a pretty short distance to go. I'll just ride in my work clothes. Of course, I have a backup outfit in my office just in case.

That looks cool. Did that fork come with it? Is that a suspension seatpost?

Finally able to post up some pics of my new commuter. Went from riding my beach cruiser to a Marin Ignacio with a 2 speed hub. I wanted a fixie style bike, but didn't want to ride fixed gear. Came across this on Craigslist still in the box for $300. I am loving it so far. Work is one mile from home and I can get there faster on my bike now.

Fork is from BikeIsland. The rest is from last winter's Chicago Bike Swap and CL. Yeah, suspension seatpost, for now. It's all I have laying around.

i really like that build. If I may ask how much did you spend to build that bike? I would love to build a bike sometime but I really don't have extra parts laying around so I wonder if it would be feasable cost effective to do so?

Just finished this for the little brother in DC. Started out as a Windsor frame from Bike Island. Swapped the carbon fork out for a cro-mo one I had laying about and saved the former for a road bike proj (more anon). Running 3x7 with SRAM x3 in the back and some mish mash friction set up front cobbled together from parts found at the local co-op. Rolling on 700x28 CST city tires. Sorry for the silver on white photo. Not the best, but was in a hurry. All in all, I was quite pleased at the result: a cheap, reliable, non-descript city bike.
