My single speed Rampar reborn as my winter commuter:

Almost everything came from my stash, or from the used parts bin at the co-op, except for the rims, rear hub (Sturmer Archer 3 speed with drum brake) and the handlebars (VO Porteur). And, if we're being technical, the brazed on bracket for the front roller brake.

I know the cable routing is not terribly awesome (plus, zip ties FTW) but it was the only way that seemed to make sense.

He was happy to see it go to a person that is going to love it like he did. He bought is 8 mths ago as a leftover. It still has low miles. I think I'm going with the PDW space ship/red planet combo. Still looking for a rack.
Please be aware of the recall involving the bike:

Seems like everything on my local CL in the $200-$400 price range are old vintage road bikes (not really interested in them) or near $1K or $3K-$4K road/race bikes.

I may have to go the BikesDirect route when I'm ready to get something else. It's not like I can buy anything right now anyway, don't even know why I'm fretting about it. Guess I'm just jealous of the deals other people find.
CL here in the DFW area has gone completely nuts! People are trying to list old stuff for as much or more $$ than when new!
I'm finding better prices on used bikes at the LBS.

Holy crap, thanks. I had no idea. I don't seem to be affected though as I have the base model which has a steel fork. But, again, thanks.

You have excellent taste. :-)

Here's the latest iteration of my Vaya3. I can't imagine ever wanting to ride anything else.

Sweet ride! How do those retroshifters work from the drops? Looks like we have the same pedals, I love those things.

The Retroshifters are totally awesome. One of the best bike investments I've ever made. Rock solid. Reliable. Smooth shifting. Good feathering. The positioning of the shifters is very convenient to use. I couldn't be happier.

It is a very rare 82' Rat City Cycles "Leprechaun"
Just needs the lights and it will be ready to go just in time for the rainy season.

Family Commute

Stopped at a local playground to give my son time to stretch his legs after doing some back-to-school shopping. Now that Mama's taking a turn at hauling the Trail-a-Bike she's starting to understand why I've been telling her to ditch the FS MTB for something more road-worthy. At least she let me talk her into installing some slicks!

Nah, just a backrest. He just turned 5 so I'm removing it this winter.

My commuter (well, my 'everything' bike, since I am a broke college student) is a 1995 Nashbar 6000t...I bought it off of Craigslist about a month ago. On the traffic-facing side, I have a Garneau Black Box Pannier (from Nashbar), and on the non-traffic-facing side, I have a Wald folding basket. Works well enough for my needs! I don't have a car so this is how I get around anywhere.

Don't judge too hard on my bar tape job! It was my first time.

This is my sweet ride that I mount daily for a 22km to college (go and back) and 20 to town
An old Niji Caravelle with 27" wheels (no documentation on the net about that bike)
Got my little rack and straps to hold my bag
Ordered 27 x 1 1/8 Panaracer Pasela tires can't wait to get them!

Not mine but I was talking commuter bikes on a skateboard website and a guy responded with his fathers bike built by a local custom shop. There are some things I would do differently 700c over 26" is the main thing but given that this guy live in western CT and commutes year round this is an interesting build, Alfine 11 spd belt drive, disks, that's pure simplicity in my mind

Hi irclean,

Thanks for the compliment.

I used to put the Gates’ CDX belt drive on the sawyer when I run it singlespeed for commuting and off-road riding. But when I installed the IGH, the rear sprocket didn’t fit anymore coz what I have was a non Alfine specific sprocket. I am from Japan so it’s really hard to deal with the Gates people because they don’t have dealers here (it actually took me 6 months to get the CDX belt drive parts). I like running it with belt drive though.

Really like this - I'd have to go with some slicker treads for commuting but otherwise it looks pretty sweet.
