Exactly, the chain/belt stays below the triangle. It's too early to judge the quality of the ride, but I don't think it should cause any issue especially on a non performance bike. Anyway even Cannondale Lefty forks look "wrong" yet they perform well :)

Here's another minor cool detail of the bike:

That's pretty cool. I'd like a custom stem cap, but (like a tattoo), I can't think of what I'd want it to be. One Less Car is pretty cool, but I would only want to do that if I actually got rid of a car (dropping to a 1-car family).

noglider 02-16-15 01:55 PM

Shouldn't it be One Fewer Car?

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=434647my 1983 or 84 Trek 620 with upright handlebars "ondella" i think was their name, and 90mm Sturmey aAcher from drums and 70mm drum rear with 7 speed sprockets. bought the bike for $10 at a yard sale and had the wheels built up for winter and rainy day commutes. its even more comfortable than my old recumbent bike!

Here's my winter commuter: 2012 Fuji Nevada 2.0. Built up a Shimano dynamo hub front wheel with a Supernova front and rear light. Tires are the Nokian Hakkapeliitta W240's, which I find to be fantastic tires! Today there was 2-5 inches of fresh powder on the trails, so I brought a set of XC skis just in case it got deep enough to get some skiing in on the way home.

So I just recently parted with my Felt QX75 (http://www.bikeforums.net/commuting/...l#post16935685). It has gone to a new owner, whom I believed needs it more than I do. Meanwhile, the Soma has gotten some minor updates (Soma high rider stem, cantilever brakes), and as of recent one major update (American Classic Victory 30 wheelset). With this latest update, the bike looks kinda confused whether it has a classic or a sporty look. If anyone of you guys have any opinion, just shoot. :)

I took these pictures of my "rain bike" yesterday and thought I would share them here since it's mainly for commuting. The attraction of this bike is riding in freezing rain (it was 31° and raining when I took these), and keeping the wind off in cold weather. I also have cargo capacity in both the front and back.

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=434748http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=434749

The sides aren't actually wavy - that's an optical artifact of the covering.

It's hard to judge scale with this bike, but inside it's a drop bar road bike. The windshield is forehead height when I'm in the drops with almost parallel back.

wphamilton I've never seen anything like that, props for your creativity! I wouldn't be surprised to find reports about free roaming wild beast in your area :)

 the Greenway deer seem to think so, giving me a lot more "respect" than when I'm on an ordinary bike.

would you just ski home if you got too much snow to ride? would you leave bike at work?

TransitBiker 02-17-15 03:44 PM

Went for a ride this morning........ :)

Deepest snow so far with this new bike. Those tire ruts were terrible... definitely need a more aggressive tread for snow.... plan to get a full winter wheelset front dyno/roller brake hub and rear 8 speed IGH with coaster built in.

Yes, these are crocs... and they work. :)

That's a Selle SMP, right? I have a friend that swears by those seats...

LOL. I too am wondering why Selle SMP made that kind of design for the seat nose. What makes it a comfort saddle I guess.

Yes, that's Selle SMP TRK for touring model. It is indeed a really comfortable saddle in my experience. If you want to go for long haul, low-to-mid speed (up to 25mph), this is definitely one to consider. Not the lightest touring saddle around, and not high speed (racing kind) riding style AFAIC.

The design actually makes sense to me - no smacking your back with the nose of the saddle getting on from a stop. But, it's just too goofy looking (nothing personal), and I generally could care less about bike aesthetics

No offense taken here. :) and I totally agree with you. On the backside department and the soft area, comfort is top priority.

AlmostTrick 02-19-15 08:49 AM

If it works, they might as well just chop the nose off, no?

I think it looks kinda cool as is. Different, that's for sure.

Does your head stick out the top? If it didn't I'd be constantly thinking, "I'm gonna get t-boned, I'm gonna get t-boned,...". Aren't crosswinds an issue? I'd love to see a pic of you actually riding this.

This was an earlier one, a couple of years ago. The windshield on the current one is about 2-3 inches higher than the red one in the video although I can easily see over the top without really shifting much.

I know I posted 'some pictures' earlier of my bicycle - but this is how it looks 'fully loaded' for a ride, and at the time of day that I usually end up ridinghttp://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=435465http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=435466http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=435467 The 'shiny' thing hanging on the handle bar is my helmet with it's reflector strips...

that so looks like it would be fun. I rode a fat bike around a parking lot once. I wish I had some snow to test it out on.

I left work early and was rewarded with this breathtaking sunset over the semi-frozen Hudson (not that leaving work early requires a separate reward):
