Winter commuter utility over looks
 

I couldn't resist posting my Wisconsin winter commuter after the above quote, and discussion of homemade fenders. I find reforendum signs superior to partisan politics. This is in fall mode without the studded tires.

It stays in my office which is locked at all times. Only three people have access to the office (me, my supervisor and the general manager) and there's two security cameras immediately outside the door. I monitor the cameras and conduct investigations for the company.

in this case, this is only a half commuter's bike because a commuter's bike allows you to park & lock anywhere you need to go ......???:D

7spd shimano drivetrain. Aluminum frame.

I have installed a:

1. flat MTB Aluminum Alloy bar.( used > 4.99)
2. Road bike style seat post with older schwinn anatomic seat. ( new > 9.00)
3. aluminum fenders.( new > 34.99)

This is the big boy frame, fits me perfectly as pictured !!

$ 269 was the price I paid + the add-ons.

I know that the Trek 7000 is looked down upon in these parts, but I am enjoying it!

Even though I'm a backpack guy, I dig those panniers! The only addition I could see making is a rear fender to keep your back and gear dry.

Oh, I got a rear fender - just haven't put it on yet. I'm going to have to take the rear wheel off to do so, and since my plan for this weekend is to take the back derailler apart anyway, that's when I'll install the fender.

Of course, it's supposed to rain all week here, so I think I'm screwed :)

New to the forum, and new to bike commuting too... actually haven't been on a bike much in eight years 'til now. Lucky riding a bike is one of those things you never forget, like, well, riding a bike.

Pretty happy with it so far, except the fenders that came with it had these plastic bits around where the braces/struts attach to the frame, making it impossible to attach a rack. So I just got one that bolts on to the seatpost, which is quite all right since I've not much to carry round. Also added a basket, kickstand and some reflectors.

It's smooth, feels solid, not too heavy (only a fairly flat 10km commute each way) and I really like the plain blackness of it - simple, nothing flashy, no massive springs or shocks, so it doesn't look too bizarre eg if I'm business-dressed or riding in uniform (Navy). Wish I could find a chainguard so the front cogs wouldn't catch my pants all the time, but otherwise, pretty happy.

"This could be a bait bike - victoriapolice.ca" Here in Victoria the police put out "bait bikes" - just like bait cars, they park them somewhere theft-prone and if someone steals it, they track them down and arrest them. They also give out stickers to put on your bike to make would-be thieves think twice before taking yours, even though it's not really a bait bike. Or is it?

That sticker is awesome! I need to find out if Seattle has something like that.

No doubt, that is an ingenious program. Kudos to your PD.

Just wanted to say that there are some fine bikes here. I got S&S couplers installed when I bought it.

My commuter got an upgrade this year to a Rivendell Rambouillet.

Yup. I've been told they're doing that here in Ottawa as well. I've not seen any of those stickers, so maybe we don't have that aspect of the program. Obviously I've not seen the program in effect since I've never stolen a bike, but it's nice to see that the police are stepping up and giving some protection given the rise of cycle commuters this year.

i want a rivendell so, so bad.

is that a flask? if so, is that a special cage to hold flasks? must have.
