Garage sale find for $20, it's seen plenty of iterations, main road bike, fixed gear, single speed, now a 1x5. Drops, north road, now flat.

I like the bold colors (pink and green). Haven't heard of this model before. Looked it up and its one of their cyclocross bikes:

For many years I lived in KC. Hopefully you enjoy it there. Undoubtedly with AC. My memory of KC is people running from their cars with AC into their homes or offices with AC. All the while making sure to never venture into the foreboding, wanting wasteland that lays between. Things have sure changed since we first moved there in 1993. Now the summers are quite literally unbearable. For comparison, my time in the marines and in the desert was a vacation compared to the summers in KC (thank you desert for your lack of water vapor). There are however still two times per year in which the weather is for a couple of weeks utterly perfect in KC. Good luck and God speed my cycling friend!

I also really want one of those. Davy Crockett being one of my childhood hero's helps too.

I got a 2017 Kona Dr. Dew and customized with swept back bars, ergon grips, Alfine dynamo wheel, raceface Chester pedals, Busch & mueller dynamo lighting and a Topeak rear rack. 250 miles in, loving it. Routed rear light cable through the internal routing for a front derailleur. SRAM Nx 1x11, shimano alivio hydraulic brakes & a Brooks cambium Saddle

That Kona build is sexy as hell. Looks like a great ride. I'm thinking about the Cambium saddle and wonder how you like it.

Good looking bike! What bars are those, and can you post a pic from the riders point of view? I'm looking for a swept bar but not having much luck -- either too much sweep or not enough.

Not just my commuter, but my everything bike - 2015 Surly Disc Trucker with some stuff and things.

Deviations from stock:

• Velocity Cliffhanger rims
• Sapim spokes
• Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires
• Schmidt SON 28 front dyno hub
• Supernova E3 Pro 2 front light
• Supernova E3 taillight
• Switched from ISO 6 bolt to Shimano CenterLock SLX RT68S rotors
• Switched from stock 11-36 10 speed cassette to 11-32 10 speed

I think that about covers it. I'm considering replacing the fenders. I've not been happy with the fitment of these SKS, and they really aren't full coverage enough. The last thing I need to get is a handlebar bag to complete my setup. I used my Topeak from another bike for the weekend touring I've done, but as I hope to take longer tours starting in the spring, I'm hoping to find something else I like, as the Topeak is really too small and it enjoys its home on my other bike.

I tried a PM but I think you might be too new. Question-- what size tires are you running on those Cliffhangers? General opinions of the rim? Think a set of 38's would fit on the Cliffs?

My tire is a 40-559 in metric, or I reckon, around 26x1.5" in standard units, so I think 38s would fit just fine.

So far, my opinions of the rim are high. I know the rim is an upgrade over the Alexrims DH-19s that come stock, but they really do ride so much better. I run the same tires at the same PSI, so the better ride must be attributable to the rim. With relatively high PSI, I still feel pebbles and roots and all, but other than that, it is like riding on a layer of butter.

I'm not a physics guy, but I'd imagine that the better ride could come from a wider rim. The result is that the tire's sidewalls are more straight, rather than curved in, if that makes sense.

As the company I work for moved to a new location, which put it within daily cycling distance, I decided to start bike commuting again. My trusted Giant OCR would be the fast option to ride to work, but I would be riding with a backpack each and every day. This would just not be an option for me anymore as the OCR was getting older, and my regular bike was just too slow for the job. So I started looking around for a new bike and I was lucky enough to find out my company would allow me to participate in their bike project. After about two weeks of seriously considering my options, I decided I should buy a hybrid. After purchasing it I ordered a set of fenders, a rear rack and a single pannier. If necessary I could always upgrade to another single pannier and ride double, right? :)

So last week I rode two times to work and this week I did another ride in and it felt pretty darn good to ride again. Today was a break for me as I took my nephew to work for school stuff and I got to change some clothing stock at work.

"Merida" reminds me of " " and "Merde" but otherwise it's a nice lookin bike!

Nice bike, but I daresay that front fender is lacking a bit of length. It isn't going to provide you with very much protection other than the headset.
