That's pretty sweet! There's a guy that lives near me that we have about a mile of shared bike-commute, lately he's been riding a 29er version of a BMX bike, single speed, it's got a blocky bmx stem like that, and rectangular tubing. It's by some bmx legend I don't remember his name, but my buddy said he always wanted one of his bikes when he was a kid, and now that he's grown up he was able to buy himself one -- and the frame is autographed!
I see some BMX style fixies around town, so I know it's not just me. Just finished building a 26" BMX cruiser. Mongoose frame, beach cruiser tires; big wheel BMX bikes cruise so smooth.... http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y24...6_144009_1.jpg |

Rectangular square tubing means it's a SE PK Ripper. Cool bikes. Scot Breithaupt was a true innovator. I had one when I was young, and when it got stolen, I was so disgusted that I actually stopped riding for a couple years.
http://www.sebikes.com/images/produc...PER_Z_SIDE.jpg I had a rectangular-tubed bmx bike when I was a kid, but it was just painted flat grey, a generic copy I think. (Unless I somehow got ahold of one that was overpainted) |
I've always wondered: do competitive BMX racers ALWAYS ride 20" wheels, regardless of how tall they are? I've seen 24" bmx bikes out and about, but the couple times I watched olympic bmx, all those bikes looked so teeny tiny!

If it had the gusset wedge at the headtube, and was lovingly welded out of aluminum, then most likely yes.

I just repurposed my former fixie into a summer commuter. Changed to a single speed and changed the drop bars to bullhorns.
I ordered the aluminum bullhorns from china. The kind with flat tops. https://scontent.fsnc1-1.fna.fbcdn.n...07&oe=59CCD2E7 |

Hey y'all!
Here is my fairly stock OCR3. I really want to heavily outfit this thing as my daily. If there are any people out there that have outfitted their OCR I would love to talk to you and get some ideas about what fits best on these bikes. Specifically fenders, rear rack or saddle bags, and other weather proofing items. Thanks for looking and your advice and comments! Also have installed some fenders that were insanely easy to install/take on and off/ and look incredible Just last night I attached my long awaited (thanks amazon) rear rack and hopefully this evening some time my top Pannier will arrive. Let me know what you think of the new look! |
That's a nice lookin rack

Since my first post a few weeks ago I have raised the nose of the seat a few degrees and lowered it a .5 inch due to some very uncomfortable pain in the nether regions that has definitely gotten better since the change.

Let me know what you think of the new look! Looks like an Ibera rack like mine. Very solid attachment with the trunk pack. I only attached one strut because it's plenty stout for the stuff I put in it. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/O8...=w1024-h764-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/5E...qz6pGY=s640-no |

After been hit by a car, writing off my Spec Diverge, I've finally got another bike! This time a real workhorse that I pretty much use as my only bike as it handles so well fully loaded for camping trips and commute or stripped as a weekend club bike.

Fired up the speedy bike. It's a commuter 'cause it has a bell.

These are some nice bikes.

Here's the commuter for me, my younger son, and our little dog Oreo! It's an old Schwinn police bike frame. I built the 36-spoke rear wheel with a 105 hub and a sun cr-18 rim after the original rim wore out. It's 1x8, with a surly stainless steel chainring and a 7-speed shifter in friction mode. It has Bosco bars with green fizik microtex on the right (because I gave someone the grip from that side). The saddle is a Velo Orange B-17 copy, which I've been very happy with. Schwalbe marathon tires. The rack is Blackburn, and the basket is a dog basket my wife found online. Trek Mountain Train on the back, with an alligator squeaker. The picture is at a popular bike destination near Minneapolis, a coffee shop called The Depot. We've explored a lot a lot of towns and run a lot of errands with this setup! |
That looks super fun!

My Roll... best commuter I've had for phoenix
|
I showed pictures of these before, so I'll spare the details this time. But here are my brother's Soma ES and his wife's Surly Pacer; I built them as housewarming gifts for moving back home to the Twin Cities after ten years abroad.
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4316/...b5c20c64_h.jpg And here they are after biking to meet my sister and me for lunch today, on a beautiful Minnesota summer day. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4380/...809d25c2_h.jpg |
Damn, no helmets.

Performed some upgrades to my commuter to improve safety and comfort.
http://i.imgur.com/W14mBvN.jpg I re-cabled the entire bike. It needed it. The originals were ready. It shifts and brakes smoothly now. http://i.imgur.com/u1kqIey.jpg Changed the rings from 48/34 to 50/34. The rings were beat too and I wanted something closer in gearing to my Roubaix. http://i.imgur.com/yAtrQyo.jpg I found a really cool stem mount for the light to move it out and away from the handlebar. This made room for the inline brake levers. I find that I like multiple hand positions on my 40 mile commute. http://i.imgur.com/C2XLVSy.jpg Lastly, I removed the cable stop from the stem and installed a new stop at the top of the fork. This, along with new brake pads stopped the brake chatter that this model is know for. It has very good, strong brakes now. I really like the bike so far. It is turning out of be a great commuter. -Shin |
