Duke archer, what is that? the trek 520?
I love it. |
Thanks! Yeah a 2007 520. I'm just taking a break on my round the world at the moment. Got a job at Thorn cycles in the UK, so I swapped the drops for the Trekking bars.
|

|

Here's the bike I just built in time for winter!
Nexus 8R25 (Red Line) on a Surly 1x1 with Alfine shifter! I'm telling you it's a dream to ride on! :D I still have some adjustments to do on the dash and my 18T sprocket hasn't arrived yet (not it's a 21T). The owner of the bike shop even said that they'll be ordering Nexus 8 equipped bikes since he's so amazed! The pictures don't totally do justice to the amazing green of the frame, I did my best with the lighting nature gave me on this overcast day. :) http://www.velourbain.qc.ca/images/p...air/1x1-05.jpg http://www.velourbain.qc.ca/images/p...air/1x1-06.jpg The Alfine shifter is amazing. http://www.velourbain.qc.ca/images/p...air/1x1-04.jpg My beloved Brooks B-17. http://www.velourbain.qc.ca/images/p...air/1x1-03.jpg The black Nexus 8R25. :D I'm amazed that it makes no noise, except when free-wheeling. It's awesome compared to the noisy Nexus 3 that's on my father's bike. http://www.velourbain.qc.ca/images/p...air/1x1-08.jpg  |
Pluc, that bike is hot!
|
Pluc, what's the hose clamp for? Also what's that rod jutting straight up from the rear stay?
|
Thank you Donna! I'm very proud of it too!
The hose clamps are there to hold the trailer hitch. The rod is part of it. :) They're a bit too long now (it's annoying when you put panniers on) but I'll cut them as soon as I get the proper hardware for it. |
Pluc-
That is a sweet ride you put together. I put together a black surly 1x1 this past summer with the same drive train (nexus redline) and the alfine shifter. It is indeed a very nice ride. I ended up selling it to a close friend of mine who loves it. I am thinking about building up another one when the orange 1x1 is released. I'll take a few pictures when I see my friend tomorrow and post them here. |

PM me I'll give you the money! (Kidding) I only said so because I went though a similar situation stem riser & all) and when I was able to get a larger used bike, I felt a lot more comfortable.

It's been a great do-everything bike, but after 4000 miles of using it as pretty much my only ride, I'm realizing my priorities are shifting a little bit (newfound cyclocross addition) so I'm selling the Jamis, buying a dedicated cross bike, and this winter break I'll be building my old bridgestone into a commuter/tourer on the cheap. When I first got it I had this vision of doing lots of touring, which just hasn't really panned out. |

Edit: Dang my carport walls look much dirtier in that photo I guess I got weekend cleaning duties :) |
Newest addition and my current favorite fair-weather commuter. A 53cm IRO from the group buy over in the SS/FG forum.

Gosh dang it! I both look forward to and dread what bike 65er will show next!
Look forward to because they are always fun and interesting. Dread because I don't like envying the sick deals he finds and.... I want a folder! I do many one-way commutes, and it would be so handy to toss in the car! No removing the bike's front wheel and folding up the car seat! Those little wheels would make for a slow ride home though, no matter how big a chainring you got. hairlessbill - that is one stylin fast looking commuter ya got there. What frame is that? evblazer - Hey fellow Xtracycle rider! Rockin rig! Mines a 26"er, on an old Specialized Rockhopper. I have to get it ready for winter snow commuting! |

The Twenty is a great bike if you are into vintage rides... newer folders are lighter and faster but I don't think many are nearly as tough and utilitarian. When I borrow the car from my ex I take the Twenty as I can stash it in the back of our old Nissan hatchback or fold it up and tuck it into a corner at her store. A big misconception is that small wheeled bikes are slow and nothing could be farther from the truth... my Twenty has been re-geared so I can pull a trailer but the top gear still allows for a cruising speed of nearly 30 kmh. It's fun to blow by people on full sized bikes on the Twenty. |
