I even like the bars. Well done Chipcom!

Man, that looks like it'll haul a lot of dresses...:D

chipcom 04-06-08 07:18 PM

The bars are Nitto Albatross...flipped. Plenty of hand positions, including a nice fairly stretched aero position for the flats and into the wind, plus room for my handlebar bag, which always seems to be a challenge with H-Bars or Butterfly bars - and the bend isn't as severe as with Moustache bars..

that bike is rad
sweet dummy

Whoa! That is SWEET! I'd like to build-up a Big Dummy for getting gorceries and such. Enjoy it!

pwyll99 04-08-08 02:12 PM

This is the best pic I have of my commuter right now.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...2173_small.jpg

Only changes from this photo are 26x1.75 tires instead of the knobbies shown. But this is the bike I ride to work and the store the most as its the only one I have setup for cargo. It's also my wet weather bike. If it's nice and dry out I'll use my Bianchi instead.

JoebikerLa 04-08-08 03:20 PM

I'd like to have a Big Dummy like yours Chipcom, but I can't justify it over what I ride now. I'm shooting for a cargo bike like the bakfiets for load carry and kid carry.

Sixty Fiver 04-08-08 05:00 PM

My solution for getting groceries looks like this... I bet it would haul a lot of dresses too.

In it's early phase of building...

Yours is a much more cost effective solution, but can you imagine a trailer AND a BD? :D
(I'm gonna get me one of those railroader caps and a big ole air horn...TOOT TOOT, I think I can, I think I can)

Sixty Fiver 04-08-08 05:23 PM

Chip - My trailer is just waiting for a new deck and has been used a great deal already.

My cost to build it was less than $100.00 and I was lucky to have been given a few sets of wheelchair wheels... it looks like PVC but there is actually a steel frame hidden within that will let the trailer carry at least 200 pounds.

Below is my latest acquisition leaned up against my cubicle. I just got it a week ago from REI and haven't put a rack on it yet. I am riding with a backpack for now. It's a Cannondale RoadWarrior 2. It's a fast, strong, and comfortable bike. I have ridden over sunken manhole covers, buckled streets, etc and it felt solid throughout. I think I'll be doing everything with this bike, except fetching 100 lbs of groceries.

Looks great, I'd just aim that Superflash a bit better ( I hate cloth blinky loops...)

Have fun riding!

Industrial 04-09-08 10:51 AM

Wow nice bike chipcom. Maybe when I man up and decide to go grocery shopping by bike I can get something like that. :)

Here's my current whip:

You meant to say: Maybe when I man up and decide to go evacuate refugees by bike...

Your current ride with some panniers will work great for grocery shopping.

My new ride! First bike in years - decades... This is the 'before' picture, with just the blinkie lights on it. Took this just before I took it up to my apartment and installed the Freddy Fenders, and tonite I'm adding a rack. (Also just testing out my ability to upload pics to this site...)

Novara Forza, bought about 3 weeks ago.

Very cool! Have fun on it!

What I`m commuting on now. Cannondale Badboy with slicks, older rockshox and origin8 gary bars. Basically a copy of the old wtb dirtdrops. It`s my mountain bike but I found that the dirt drops are excellent for long rides, 4 different hand positions. Now has a rack as well.

I love the big dummy.

I'm interested in the bar setup. Could you post more views of the bars when you have time? A cockpit view would be awesome. I'm seriously considering getting a pair and your comment about liking the aero position they offer really piqued my interest. How comfortable are they if you hold them at the top rather than the traditional ends? Could you ride like that for a while comfortably? Is the hand/wrist position natural? Would cross levers at the top make it more convenient?

You got yourself a popular bike, very interesting. Could you take that on a tour?

I'll try to get more pics - photography isn't one of my strong points.

With the height and saddle-to-bar length I have now, I can stay in the 'aero' position for quite a long time...its not as stretched out as with aero bars, nor are my elbows in as far.

That's my plan...home - east coast - southern tier to the west coast, up the west coast, home via the northern tier...hopefully in the spring of 2009 or 2010 (my turning/turned 50 tour).

My "New" Trek 750 Multitrack

Hey all,

I picked up this used TREK 750 Multitrack about three weeks ago. Found in on CL and paid $120 for it.... The guy just paid $90 for new tires  (I saw the same ones at the TREK store for $20....)

The best I can figure its a 94-95'. It has 21 spds and 700x35C tires (I havent had a "road" bike in YEARS!). I took it for a spin, and the handlebars were rotated down, so my hands kept wanting to slide off! I fixed that, and mounted my BF Computer and light. It rides realy nicely, but I'm not to sure about the grip shifts.... I might replace them when I go to a trecking bar..... I still need to swap over my rack from the old bike, and want to get a front rack (just because it has the braze on's!)

Almost finished IRO Rob Roy (from the recent group buy):

http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/phot...36435_6046.jpg

Left to do:

Mount brake and lever.
Cut steerer tube and fit headset cap.
Wrap bars.
Mount bottle cages.

...

Profit?

Flimflam 04-15-08 12:16 PM

May as well post an update of my Centurion rig, my road/long distance/every day/commuter bike:

http://photos-c.ak.facebook.com/phot...36162_3820.jpg

I hadn't got any shots of it with eggbeaters and the newer Brooks I picked up. Bar tape is all kinds of messed up on the left side, the bike is a bit of a beater - but it runs nicely, and is fast and comfortable over long distances.

This was taken on the GO train, which I take to help out with my 66mi. RT commute (takes it down to a ~12 mile RT commute) :)

paulwwalters 04-15-08 03:53 PM

Nice IRO up there, I can't wait to see it done. TT lever or Cross?

And nice Centurion too! I hope that wherever I end up living someday allows bikes on trains.
(U should fix that tape tho.)

ATRodger 04-15-08 07:09 PM

Oooh! Centurion.

I have a "Centurion Made" Diamondback Master TG. My only bike. Great for my commute, fun/fitness rides, and light errands. Crank Bros. Candy C, Bontrager saddle, lights, TransIt seatpost rack, Specialized Armadillo tyres. I kind of like the quirkiness of the marble...but I'm considering stripping it down and getting the frame powder coated a flat black.

How trippy; a coworker just asked me via IM about getting a Centurion bike as his first road bike (he's really, really on a budget, and can't think of buying something new).
