When you quote, please don't quote the photos as well. (especially several of them) Thanks ;)

wicksey 05-19-08 08:45 PM

sorry, got a little excited about the setup.

i need something exactly like that.

littlewaywelt 05-20-08 02:12 PM

Am I the only one that noticed that Wicksey is commuting with chain lube/degreaser or something from Pedros?
....Seriously, what's up with that?

Andy_K 05-20-08 02:49 PM

Actually, it's JFSEcho with the Pedro's Extra Dry Lube. Wicksey just quoted the picture. But I agree, what's up with that? And isn't there room in that massive rack trunk for the lube, degreaser, a complete tool set, kitchen sink, etc.?

One never knows when one may have to lube one's chain.

bkrownd 05-20-08 03:18 PM

Quick access lube to keep yer chain purrrring? I can think of many times when mine got clacky as the load increased on a hill, and I was wishing I could give it a shot of lube on the fly. :)

Well, here's my contribution to the Pistadex, as well as my new commuting workhorse while the Fuji is relegated to rain and utility duties. Infinitely more fun to ride, this one.

that better not be a can of WD-40!

BikeTales 05-21-08 11:41 AM

here's my commuter that I put together with an old Schwinn World Sport frameset, crazy stem, mismatched 700c wheels, internal-gear (nexus 8) and random parts like upside-down handlebars from an old schwinn:

oops. The seat hardware was on wrong and it moved :/
Here's another pic:

Sorry about the crappy pics. I need decent brakes and maybe levers if anyone has anything, or any recommendations...

Very observant!
Actually, it is attached to the seatbag. It has never fallen off. I used to keep it in the big bag, but it tends to leak - bad for the work attire.

If I ride on the weekend at my camp, I don't bring the big bag.

Also, having it handy all the time reminds me to lube the chain (I'm not good at remembering that stuff).

Ride on!

I like the upsidedown handlebar trick though.

Is it a redband? How do you like it? My lust for a nexus 8 redband hub is tempered by my experience as a Nuvinci early adopter. Not that I think the Nuvinci sucks, but it is a niche product. Nexus 8 hub has a broader application potential.

It's not the redband. I like it a lot though. I don't even have a derailleur bike right now, just that one and a single-speed. The only drawback is the shifter, which is really only made to work on a straight bar, but there are other shifter options available. It shifts quickly and smoothly and has a good range. I feel like I need to change my front chain ring though,to a little bit larger size, because I find myself shifting back and forth between certain gears often.

pretty easy to set up though, and maintenance free. I never cared for derailleurs anyway. friction makes me anxious.

It's an old school thing... it's been a few weeks since I took this old girl on the commute.

They are the stock Ritchey SpeedMax Cross 700x32 tires. I have only been commuting for about a month and a half now. I was scared that I would buy the bike and end up being one of those people who end up selling it because they never rode it. After a month and a half I can say that buying this bike is one of the best things I have done. Sorry, I'm not of much help. Your other thread is very helpful for me because I want to swap out the tires aswell once the stock ones get more worn.

An old man needs to keep a few toys in the garage... :)

I commute on every bike I own and usually ride something different on Friday's... quite a few of my bikes are over 50 years old so I don't want to subject them to the daily beating but none of them get to be garage queens either.

My main summer commuter is a 46 year old Peugeot with a fixed gear conversion.

1983 Schwinn LeTour Luxe I picked up from the original owner for 25 USD. New tubes, tires, tape, clips, straps, and lights. This is one of the smoothest and sturdiest bikes I've ever ridden.

She may look like a piece of junk but she's got it where it counts, kid. She'll make point five beyond the speed of light. I've added some special modifications myself. And I've outrun Imperial starships. Not the local bulk cruisers, mind you, but the big Corellian ships. It's the bike that made the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs. She's fast enough for you, old man.

Well, it does have rack mounts, so obviously Specialized figured someone would want to attach one. Good looking bike.
