I've been waiting a damn long time for this bike to come out. Thought I would post it here for the people who haven't seen it. Should be competition for the Crosscheck.

Holy crap, 45c tires.
I'm in love with it, methinks. That first picture with the orange bar tape is beautiful.

Yeah, the fork isn't so hot. Maybe a carbon fork would be in order. Other than that, I think it's a damn cool bike and would suit my needs perfectly.

Pretty cool. But, it's sizes are wrong for me. 57 cm is too big for me. The next size down is like a 51 cm or something ridiculous like that. Also, the frame is kinda expensive compared to a CC. It does have the option for either disc or rim brakes which is a definite plus over a CC. I wish my CC had the option of either Disc or Rim brakes.

Yes, it's certainly more than I thought it would be. The Cross Check is 4130 while the Vassago is Reynolds 520. Don't know if there's much of a difference between the two.

They list size 54. However, when you go to purchase and you use the drop down menu to pick the size it says next size down as 51. I suspect that the drop down menu is wrong since that is a rather big drop in size between 57 and 51.Originally Posted by dwilbur3

ride for a change
I think Surly can rest easy.
Disc compatible (BFD but to each his own) Only 4 sizes? Even uglier graphics and colors than Surly. One braze on in the back triangle, no down tube bosses. All that for an additional $130 bucks.
Fail.

I'm sorry. This frame is ugly, lacking, and overpriced.
I'm more amused by the ad copy. Not everyone in this market is a 20 something. Surly is equally to blame.
Using such descriptive terms as "urban bast**ard" and "F-in cool" may inspire the 15 yr old skateboarders to pump their fists, but they do not sell me a bike.
They also warn us that this bike will "piss a few people off."
I had no idea a bike frame could stir that kind of emotion.
Sometimes it's a combination of humor and frustration when having to wade through the equivalent of "teen beat" magazine when trying to discern various equipment.

Really short top tube and nothing bigger than a 60cm frame? Way to exclude the big guys, Vassago.
A 58cm top tube might fit if I used a Thompson set-back post and could find a 160mm extension stem.

Isn't this just a Surly Cross Check with track ends and disc brake mounts? Some of the older Kona Sutra models were like this, but they had more braze-ons and sliding dropouts.Originally Posted by Vassago
Like the Jabberwocky, the design began as a custom frame created because we couldn't find anything out there that fit our needs as a singletrack luvin', aggressive commutin', rack capable, bunny hopable singlespeed roadie with brake and gear options....whew.
The frame looks well-designed, and I like the color. It is not something new though. I'd rather have a Cross Check or Salsa Fargo.

i actually really like it! expensive for those of us with weak dollars. the fork is super, but then i love my il pompino which has a similar (though exactly the same) fork. the ad copy is embarrassing in the extreme however, i also don't get why singlespeed means men in dresses on the surly site either...

At what point, in your quest for the sliding dropout, disc brake, big tire bike do you just go buy a mountain bike.
not a role model

Don't forget the head tube is at least 60mm shorter than it really should be as well. Even if you call this "60" the 58 that it really is, the 119mm head tube is still tiny.Originally Posted by CliftonGK1

.
Might be a good cross frame to build around, but not for commuting. I wouldn't buy a frame for a commuter that doesn't have rack mounts.

The wait was to see what the bike was like. Sometimes waiting for a long time is greeted with disappointment. I think it's overpriced for what it is. I'm going to wait for the next generation and see what it brings.Originally Posted by CCrew

Well, yes and no. 4130 is a type of steel, 520 is a tubeset. 4130 is just a steel alloy but 520 is a finished product made of 4130 steel. So by calling it 4130 it doesn't tell you much about the tubeset other than the steel it's made of, while the 520 designation tells you a lot more. It's made of 4130 but you can also look up wall thickness and butting (though there is a range the framebuilder can choose from). I would guess that most 4130 bike tubesets are similar to 520 but it could just as easily be a solid bar of 4130. Depending on how it's made a 4130 tubeset could be functionally weaker and heavier than 520 or stronger and lighter. Or weaker and lighter or stronger and heavier. It could also be more durable or less durable. All depending on how it's drawn. so to say that it's the same thing is false. In this case it probably IS pretty much the same, but not necessarily.Originally Posted by eogie
Nevermind, found out that 4130 is the same as 520. 520 just has Reynolds in front of it.
That fork is for when bike designers get lazy and don't want to design a proper one.
You can build your own bike with the same general principals but end up with something much better.
