How hi-vis is your head?

Do you wear any hi-vis hats or helmets?

I've been wearing one of these, I feel is gives me hipster redneck super powers. I think it makes me better at running stops signs.

That's not what I look like BTW.

I have black scotchlite tape on my helmet. It's stealthy during the day, but lights up really well when light shines on it at night.

Orange Metro with Planet Bike superflash hanging on the back clip.

Yellow Metro with Planet Bike Superflash on the back.

I added 3M Solas reflective tape to my helmet.

I've got one of these "Helmet bands". Bought it from Be See On Bike.

I wear a headlamp at night. Not too much help from the back, but from the front people can see me.

DataJunkie 04-16-09 07:58 AM

I wear a black helmet. However, it has a 400 Lumen light on it.

I just switched to a matte-ish silver helmet from a glossy black one, not sure what the net change is

Same here. My helmet is white so during the day it stands out. I will wear an ANSI class II vest during low light conditions. My wife was following me home one night and mentioned that the entire bike was very visible, but my head was not. I added some Solas tape to the back so not it lights up like a christmass tree for anyone driving behind me.

Happy riding,
André

every driver that has hit me (that I have talked to) has said they saw me before they made the move that hit me.

That's something I'm going to do. Although I've got the full complement of lights, my clothes tend to be grey and dark, perfect for blending into the background in low light.

Blue Bell Metro with Planet Bike Superflash on the back strap.

Oh, and to the front I also have a 400 Lumens headlamp.

I applied red & white reflective trucker tape to my Thule T2 and used the leftover trimmings on my helmet.

neilfein 04-16-09 10:15 AM

I have a blinky and headlight on my helmet.

no motor? 04-16-09 11:43 AM

The inside or outside?

DallasSoxFan 04-16-09 11:45 AM

With my helmet on my head is low-vis. With my helmet off, you could land a plane with the glare.

Inside! It looks like a disco inside my skull.

Mine looks like that seen from 2001 when they're accelerating into space and all the stars are looking like streaks of light. Kawasaki knew what they were doing when they used that clip in an ad that says "we know why you ride". :thumb:

I can't decide if that's good news or bad!

Gotta love hipster redneck superpowers. I'll bet they push you right up hills.

You know it!

On the way home, I made direct eye contact with a cop as I was riding the against traffic.

He looked away in fear and self loathing.

BA Commuter 04-16-09 07:24 PM

I wear a silver & yellow Bell Solar. In the cooler months, I put a J&G rain cover on it, which breaks the chill.

It looks a little extra dorky, but I do get noticed with the helmet cover on and the chicks dig guys with protection!
