you use them? pics? any day-glo lime green covers? I would think if it was raining hard a reflective cover would be good. I got caught in some wicked downpours last summer and thought it would be more comfortable with one.

i wear a yellow one that I picked up on clearance, would like to find a HiVis yellow/lime green one though...Used a shower cap for a long time and carry one as a just in case for multi-day rides...

I got a Bell Metropolis that came with a snap-on rain cover. Hi-vis would be nice, but this one fits so snugly that I'll forgive its low-vis black n' gray color.

Any rain cover you get will certainly make rain riding much nicer. I got caught in a downpour with a regular helmet and could hardly see from all the water rinsing sweat into my eyes and covering my glasses. With my Metro, it's not a problem at all.

I don't wear it much. but is sure is nice when you need it.

My rain jacket has an adjustable hood that fits over the helmet and doesn't block my vision. I also use a helmet with a visor in the rain to keep my glasses clear.

I put packaging tape over my helmet in November and leave it on until late April.

Whenever I'm in a decent hotel, I take the shower cap. It's clear/almost invisible and fits perfectly. I punch a couple of small holes front and back for ventilation and it's perfect.

This is only for rain rides below 55F though, the rest of the time I don't use anything.

I've taken to wearing a goretex cycling cap underneath my helmet in the rain.

I have a Louis Garneau yellow one (with neck protection) but it makes me look like Frederick of Arabia. I take it on fall/winter cycling tours but not on the commute unless it is a hurricane out there.

I use a J and G helmet cover, and if it's a really cold hard driving rain, then I'll pull my rain jacket hood over the top of it.

The Louis Garneau one they sell at Nashbar is bright yellow, with reflective accents in green or something (seeing color is not my strongest suit), and it's pretty cheap. I use one all the time, only take it off when it's really hot out. In fact it's getting pretty trashed, so on my last order I got two more, just in case.

shower cap

I use a cycling cap and while it doesn't keep the rain off my head, the bill keeps the water out of my eyes. It doesn't rain that much (volume wise) here in Portland all that often, though we'll be getting 1.5-2" in the next couple of days. I think I'll try a shower cap...

I have the LG one from Nashbar. Trouble is, my head sweats mightily under it. I just need the ventilation more than the helmet cover. Even in January.

What kind of fabric is the LG cover made from? I haven't really sweated under my Metro's cover. Then again, my head doesn't sweat a lot to begin with -- my lower back sweats first; and I tend to only use it in the rain or cold. Mine is made from just a medium weight lycra/spandex/stretchy-synthetic-fabric with no waterproofing... I think.

I wear a cycling cap under the helmet. IMO the brim in the rain is crucial.

Wouldnt a helmet with a visor serve the same purpose?

Another J&G user here. I also wear this on those nasty winter days. It helps to keep the wind & cold out of the vents. It makes the helmet look huge, but who cares, right?

Ermm... kinda, but the vents on a helmet also let in rainwater, which runs down your scalp and into your eyes.

Forgot to add that my Metro's rain cover has holes for the visor to snap into its fittings in the helmet itself.

I'll pick up a helmet cover when someone makes one allowing for a blinky and helmet light. For now I use a cycling cap under the helmet.

I tried that route. I found that I couldn't get the visor low enough without compromising helmet's head protection. With the cap I can adjust it where virtually no water gets between my glasses and the brim.
