Care to name the company? Just curious.
Had a great ride in this morning, although dressing for the weather is getting more challenging with the chilly mornings and warm afternoons of springtime. Trees and flowers are blooming all over the place now, but unfortunately I can't see them during my morning commute, which is mostly in the dark since the time change. On the plus side, afternoon temps are supposed to hit the low 70s the next couple of days here. Sweet. |
33F (~0.5C) with a moderate tailwind. Some light snow left over on the ground from last night, but the pavement was just wet except for a wooden bridge deck on the MUP. I made good time again. Faster than yesterday, thanks to the wind.

my commute in Amsterdam is always very nice!

Some heavy headwinds made this a pretty challenging commute this morning. 39F with winds from the NNW @ 16mph. I also had a minor issue with a chain derailment when i downshifted going up a hill. I had to stop to fix it, which took about 5 min because it also got stuck pretty bad.
|
Happy ride today. Just cool enough for long tights. Almost all green lights and steady speed - forgot to drink.
|
Nice ride in. It could have been ugly, with the two oblivious, oncoming riders on the MUP, riding two abreast and too involved in conversation to notice my 700 lumen LED headlight. In the darkness with the bends in the trail it was impossible to tell if they were singling up. They weren't.
No contact, no crash, so I shouldn't whine, but dang - I've seen those guys on the trail 20 times and they've never not noticed before. |
Great commute in. Despite a fairly strong head/crosswind (15-25 mph), I managed to make the same kind of time I would on a windless day. The weather was gorgeous - temps in the 40s w/ brilliant sun. Looking forward to the ride home. I'm running some errands on the way home, so I'll get some extra time in the saddle! :)

The snow and ice have finally melted away and I was able to start commuting by bike again. What a wonderful feeling. I was on a cycling high when I got home from work, a feeling I havn't had in such a long time.
|
Ride home last night and this morning was a slushy mess. I had my first ever experience getting showered with slush from passing cars. Upon arriving home last night my helmet vents were completely plugged with snow and my bike was caked (and yes I do use fenders).
All in all, two great rides!!! I was reasonably comfortable with my rain/snow gear. It just took a little longer to get home last night and into work this morning. Any other Front Range commuters ride yesterday and today? Paul |

Had my first commute into work this morning - 16 1/4 miles one-way, not counting a couple stops on the subway. Despite getting momentarily lost (trapped at the Mormon temple in fact), and having my brand new Brooks Team Pro saddle fall off on Santa Monica Blvd, I still got in slightly faster than I would have by bus.
Looking forward to the afternoon commute! |

This morning was much better. Still snowing but the roads weren't bad. Much slush but mostly wet pavement. It was fun and I arrived about as quickly as usual. |
A lot smoother commute on the way home. A few morons on the road in the Springfield area, but that's really nothing new though. 53F with sunny skies and winds from the NNW @ 17mph giving me a nice tail wind for most of the ride. The tail winds helped me to keep a pretty fast pace on the flats.

Had a great ride to work and an even better ride back. For some reason, even though the elevation change is more challenging, biking home is so much fun. Before I get on the Custis trail I have about a half mile of street biking which is probably my favorite part, oddly.

Decided to stop for breakfast at Hardee's this morning before work. I went 4 miles in the opposite direction for two sausage cheese biscuits and a small Diet Coke. It warmed up nicely and the wind wasn't harsh for the ride home making it great commute day.

I don't normally post to this thread unless something unusual happens, like this morning. I ran over a possum. It was dark and foggy so I suppose that's why I didn't see the critter until it was too late. Got it with both tires.

27F is what it's been lately, but this is Great Falls, Montana and the weather is not easy to predict or plan for this time of year.
|
Afternoon has been from 40-60F but it could been freezing and snowing almost immediately.

Oh what a great commute day. Rode in this morning then checked my voice mail in the afternoon to discover my wife decided to ride in and would be leaving work around the same time as me. Her workplace is about 15 minutes closer to our home so I booked over and met her and then we did the ride home along the bike path together. Sweet ride. I can't believe it- she's done one other commute day this year (about a week ago) and other than that hasn't been on the bike since December 4th. She rode like she'd been riding all winter- so much for me feeling like I've been riding all winter and I'm in great shape. She moved along just as if she'd ridden all winter.
Once the snow and ice is gone she is obsessed with her bike commute. I couldn't be happier about it. |
Day 3 of my return to bike commuting ended with a nice ride home in the dark, light traffic. The ride in was beautiful, 70's with a tail wind. I got my new set of lights today; Magicshine 1400's, now all I have to do is convince Geoman that it's missing the attachment to mount of the handle bars. I sent him some pictures today. I'll let you know how they are once I start using them.

A mindless ride in, until snapped back to reality by a trash truck waiting for me to get through one of the speed slowers for cars. It was uphill and I just didn't feel rushing. Temps are steady, 3 C ( 36 F ), this time of year. You people out west keep that slush stuff to yourselves, we don't want
any of it here. |
Sunny, 30F, bit of a headwind. Starting to see more cyclists in the morning, and a lot more in the afternoon. Yesterday I was hanging out behind a couple of roadies. They stopped after about 4 miles so I attached myself to a guy on a hybrid for another half mile until he turned.
I'm thinking about converting my old Peugeot frame to fixed. I say that every spring, and then I don't do it. |
Last night's thunderstorms were done by this morning when I rode in and roads were mostly dry. I decided to take the highway bridge over the Trinity River which turned out to be a good move. When I got up to the low water crossing where I usually cross, it was flooded. Rode into a pretty good headwind this morning but it was tolerable, knowing that it will be at my back this afternoon.

bikes in the shop... didn't feel like breaking out the tank so took the train. it sucked.
|
Little less than ideal today. Feeling a bit under the weather today, but rode anyway. Temperature at about -5C/23F and breezy, but it was mostly a cross wind, so nothing too nasty. The derailleur cables were gummed up or something, because the bike wouldn't shift at first. I pulled into a parking lot to see if I could get things moving, and managed to get a limited gear range - two cogs in the back, two rings up front, and that was enough to get me to work. I'm hoping that it was just ice and that parking my bike in a heated underground parkade will fix that up.
Still plenty of ice and snow on my route, but today is supposed to be nice (up to 8C), and if the weekend is as nice as is currently being predicted (12-13C), that should take care of the rest of the ice and snow on the roads and trails. |
Topped 800 miles commuting and 1500 miles total biking YTD this week. The weather is typical for spring around here - chilly mornings and warm afternoons with 30+ degree swings in temperature. So my seatbag is stuffed with bike clothes in the afternoons.
|
Not bad for a first commute. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Good luck.
|
It felt a lot cooler than it was this morning. I made it to work and had to high tail it to the clinic because I forgot about Physical Therapy (Pure Torture) appointment for my back pain. I hauled $100 worth of groceries home from the commissary without any issues. I don't even think about how much I am buying now that I have a Dummy.
