Absolutely freaking beautiful! 70'ish with low humidity, nicest day in a couple of weeks. High today only supposed to be in the low 80's.

Was the slowest ride I've had in a bit simply because I was sucking in all the wonderful weather and wasn't in a hurry at all to be at work.

fletchh 06-30-10 04:50 AM

It was a bit of a chill downhill this morning at 62 F ( 16 C). The legs had energy today, and I just wish I could figure out how to make that happen every day.

55 degrees and beautiful morning. Did not feel too good though. Feel much, much better now. Ready to ride home, problem is gotta work 8 more hours.

vtjim 06-30-10 06:06 AM

Upper 50sF with a headwind. Slow & easy this morning, at least until the end. I passed a father & son riding together. I think father was commuting to work, and son was going to school. Then I caught a commuter on a hybrid. He was doing 13-16MPH. I thought I'd just stay behind him and take it easy. Well, someone else was reeling us in, and just as that person was about to catch us, the guy I was following went a different way. So I dropped the guy who was previously reeling us in. :p Silly.

rumrunn6 06-30-10 06:16 AM

I got SMOKED! but it was OK. I was cruising at a nice 17 mph up a grade and then I heard a little wind and a "good morning" as I turned my head. as he passed he smiled and looked at my suspension fork. he was older than me and a black ninja with a black backpack. he was working hard to pass me but he didn't let up and was soon out of sight. when I get passed these are the guys I like passing me.

13.39 miles
26.7 max (I guess I took it easy this morning)
15.6 avrg
51 min saddle time

sseaman 06-30-10 06:20 AM

Very nice ride in this morning, a little cooler than it has been.

18 miles
16.8 av
1:04 min ride time

genel 06-30-10 07:09 AM

Another beautiful day, cool, calm and sunny, with almost no traffic.

Timbike2 06-30-10 07:11 AM

Great ride home last night! Lower 70s temps, no humidity, light to no wind. Coming out of Clarkston I see an older guy on a MTB, stopped, talking to woman about her dog. I continue on riding on the road should, about 1/4 mile down the rode passing over I-75, out of the corner of my eye I see something pass me on the bike path. Dammit! Dig in a little to catch him, just as am approaching the other side the light changes as he speeds ahead. By the time the light changes he has a good 1/8th mile lead going into back to back hills. The chase is on! As he is cresting the 2nd hill I close to within 50 yards-- as I crest the hill he is now 200 yards ahead. Dammit! I'm riding my super fast Specialized TriCross and he's on a Schwinn MTB with Knobby tires. I continue the chase and a mile later I am on his tail. Continue up another small hill, thru an intersection and pull beside him. Old guy? I'm 56 years young--he looks to be mid to late 40s. How far you going I ask? Glass Road is his reply. "I'm going to Glass Road also, I live up on Granger road" I say. We ride the rest of the way to his corner leisurely pedaling along talking about where we work, whats the best routes etc. First time I've seen him and he lives about a mile away from me! Small world! I bettered my best time by 6 minutes, so the chase really helped push me. My best ride of the year!!! This morning was cool, but once again made great time.

IndyCommuter 06-30-10 07:44 AM

Good commute yesterday, although something on the bike just doesn't seem quite right. The handling seems sluggish and loose. I stopped a couple of times and looked, but I can't seem to find anything wrong with it. Total mileage was 13.6, with an average speed of 10.0. That's an improvement from last week's best average speed of 9.8. I'm a Clyde on a hybrid with balloon tires, so anything over walking speed is a win for me :).

wildergeek 06-30-10 07:56 AM

This morning was fantastic. I was actually quite chilled when I started out, which is very unusual for the end of June in sw Ohio.

New route with new scenery, which is unfortunately a mile shorter than my old route. Had to abandon the old route because of hillbilly motorists with rage issues. I was starting to think I had a target on my back. Then I figured out it had more to do with a local concentration of high-density apartments and a particular demographic living there.

Overall, happy. Nice weather and my new route goes right past a McDonald's so I got a fruit & yogurt parfait.

HardyWeinberg 06-30-10 08:19 AM

45F and sunny, very nice. Long day in the cage for the dayjob today. But hopefully a nice ride home at the end of it all...

I start around Hume Park and continue on into Vancouver.

If I'm stretching my ride, I get on at about 7th Ave and 20th St in New West, head through Hume Park and turn off at Lougheed and Sperling near the Skytrain. I'm finding I really enjoy the CVG now that I have fat tires. I never felt comfy in the gravel on a set of 700x23 race tires.

daijoubu2k8 06-30-10 08:34 AM

Very nice ride in this morning, but my legs are complaining about the increased mileage this week. They just need to make it home tonight, then they get 4 days off! :) It was a little chilly, but at least I saw the sun! About 10C for the whole commute this morning.

Definition of a race: any time two bicycles are going in the same direction. ;)

Took the short route this morning as I'm playing in a pickup Ultimate game at lunchtime. Between the game and the ride to-and-from, my legs will get all the workout they need.

It could be your headset. For some reason my commuter bike needs its headset tightened on a very regular basis, and it's not something you can just "see" (at least, I can't, but I'm hardly a wrench). For more information about headsets (or anything else about bicycles, for that matter), see Sheldon Brown's web site. Here's the page for headsets.

I tried my first commute to work yesterday. Got soaked in the rain, down to my boxers. My work clothes were in a backpack and got soaked too.

My lesson learned: Bring a towel, and ride commando. :)

Congratulations on your first commute. Yeah, those lessons (and many others) are things we all learn...just not usually on the first ride. :)

I'll hope it gets better from here on out!

too much drinking last night at a show... followed up with a tasty late-night chimichanga... as a result, this mornings commute was challenging and now i wanna go home and sleep.

Hats off to you for climbing that epic hill on Hume Park eastbound!
I think the worse part of CVG in my commute is Winston and the Still Creek industrial area. The Brunette River MUP is really nice. You should try 700x28s. I have them on my road bike as front and 700x25 for rears. Seem to be fine on the rough stuff.

My commute is really short but these are the results of today. My commute is actually 300 meters longer but my phone took a while to find a GPS signal. The speeds are in km/h..

This morning a police car pulled up along side me at a light and the driver said I had the best tail light he'd ever seen on a bike (a Dinotte 140L) - made me smile. On Monday morning I found a juvenile possum that had been badly injured - didn't seem to be anything I could do for it sadly - I later put my local wildlife rehab/rescue number in my cell so I'll be better prepared for the next time. That same morning, a coyote crossed the road (Mulholland Dr) a few yards in front of me as I was climbing through the fog - quite a contrast to my afternoon commute through bumper-to-bumper traffic...

Thanks for the tip. I walked through Sheldon's page and everything seems to be ok. Maybe I'm just losing what little sanity I had left. In any case, I think I'll get it out this evening and see how it does.

It's still cold in Seattle??? It barely broke 60 when I was there in May with my bike. At least the sun is out, it rained every day I was there.

My commute today consisted of stumbling down the stairs and pouring a cup of coffee and signing on. Worked from home. Tomorrow it should be sunny, low humidity and around 80. I'll be riding in.

warwick.hoy 06-30-10 05:18 PM

Mine was perfect. 60 degrees on the way in with only a few degrees rise in temp on the way home. Stopped by my brother in law's outfitter shop for a new pair of sunglasses on the way home. I needed something to protect my eyes from windburn and glare. I got a pair of Smith Thresholds with the interchangeable lenses. That way I can pop the clears in if I get caught out after dusk.

Absenth 06-30-10 05:21 PM

Amazing 7.3 mile ride home from work today! 75 degrees, mostly sunny. Not much traffic on my route. I really couldn't have asked for more.

CCrew 07-01-10 03:50 AM

60 degrees or so, absolutelyfrickingbeautiful morning. Just eased along. If only every morning could be like the last two!

New bike supposed to be in at the LBS tomorrow.... so play toy for the weekend.

fletchh 07-01-10 04:25 AM

Yep, a nice morning, and it would be nice if they were all like this. Easy ride in, only conscious enough to deal with traffic situations, but then back to my own thoughts on a great morning.

making 07-01-10 04:46 AM

I was going to drive in because I have a couple of stops on the way home. Went out to get in the Jeep and it was so beautiful out I went back in, got my bike shorts and rode anyway. I am very glad I did except I was about a half hour late for work. I will do my errands tomorrow, maybe. Oh yea, actually seen a commuter on a LHT I usually dont see because I was late. Nice bike.

Absenth 07-01-10 05:07 AM

I misjudged the weather this morning as I left the house. I was in my shorts and sleeveless Jersey. Which would have been great had it not been 55 F.
So I pushed a little harder than usual to stay warm, and finally got 13.1 mph average speed on my 7.33 mile ride to work. (which is the first time over more than a couple miles I've averaged better than 12.something.

Other than that I passed maybe a total of 25 cars on the way in.

making 07-01-10 05:10 AM

I refuse to wear my jacket, but I was kinda chilly too for about the first couple of miles. I think I ahve talked to you before but I cant remeber. Do you work right in Indy?
