It was a cold ride in at 22 F ( -5). I feel that it is too early for that kind of temp, but I stayed warm.

27F near Lake Champlain this morning. Got to work just as the sun was starting to throw purple light on the tops of trees and buildings. Reeled in another commuter and stayed behind him all the way in.
Yesterday I realized when the LBS changed my tube the other day, they mounted my tire backward. It's not really obvious that the tread is unidirectional, but it is. There's a "rotation" arrow on the sidewall & everything. That would explain why I've been feeling a bit slow this week, and I can hear tire noise. I'm on vacation starting tomorrow. I'll fix it before I commute again.

In any case, it was chilly again this AM. It didn't feel as cold as yesterday. To me, today felt more "very cool" as opposed to "cold" like it felt yesterday. Either it was a tad warmer or I'm just getting used to the colder temps.
No near misses with oblivious cagers today, so all in all, an improvement over yesterday's commute.

Great commute this morning at 28F and sunny with no winds. My fd decided to stop working, so I was stuck in the middle chain ring most of the commute. I'm glad it was the front and not the rear.

Not a cloud in the sky -- beautiful stars and a crescent moon. 48F and no breeze. Tide was in and the water surface was glass, reflecting all the lights from across the inlet. A perfect morning. One we get only about half a dozen times per year here in the Pacific Northwest.

Ride home last night was hella windy, in a hunker-down-in-the-drops-and-stay-in-the-middle-chainring kinda way. There's a mile-long stretch just before my residential area that I swear could be used as Boeing's wind tunnel.
Nice and calm this morning, though, and a pleasant 3C/37F. I've been riding my winter/beater bike for the past week, but given that the streets are nice and dry and temperatures are above freezing, I broke out the road bike again today.
Access to my preferred park route has finally been re-opened, but that route involves riding on about a mile or more of gravel, and since I took my road bike, I stuck to the streets.

0C for the ride in and 9C and windy for the ride home. The roads are pretty much dry so I took my studded tires off last night and put on a pair of cyclocross tires. That was the first time I ever mounted a foldable tire with an aramid bead, and was initially confounded by the two lasagnia noodles I was presented with. They went on without too much hassle, but I wouldn't want to have to repair a flat out on the road with them.

This morning the temp was 33f. I had on a Mont Bell Versalite jacket with the Sporthill Symmetry, workpants with leg warmers, sandals/socks with shoe covers, and the visorgogs. Oh yeah, cotton gloves that just about reached their threshold. The aftn was about 58f. I started out all bundled up with the versalite, long sleeve jersey, shorts and tights. I took off the jacket and tights and everything was comfortable. I saw a few other people bundled up with jackets and pants. But I have the advantage of being able to carry cargo. The weather was sunny and felt good.

Did not ride home this afternoon. My friend asked me if I could drive because she wasn't feeling well and felt like she was going to pass out. We loaded my trike in her Ford Explorer, and I drove that while she slept in the passenger seat.

Cold ride today on my long commute. The run in was fine but wasn't much fun on the way home. It is getting dark so much sooner plus it decided to rain as I was shaping course for home. All of this was fine but I think I need to look into different lighting arrangements as my neck muscles were starting to hurt keeping the helmet light trained. With the rain and the completely dark trail my glasses were getting fogged up and I just about wiped out a hiker wandering about wearing dark clothes. It was good thing I dialed back the revs. I think I might have to shorten the commute by driving the car closer to work.

Tuesday afternoon was the worst bike ride I've ever had! Apparently Conti Ultra Sports are only good for 2900km on the rear. That little tiny hole I had on Monday night caused a blowout on the way to MEC and was the size of a dime before I got home. I couldn't even get 30 km on the tire. Good thing I'd picked up a spare at MEC. To make the trip worse, my freewheel locked up and wrapped the rear derailleur around the axle!
Nothing like major repairs at the road side. I converted my bike to a single speed and swapped out the tires just to get home. Stopped at the Bike to Work Week commuter station by Metropolis for some coffee and a banana. Thank goodness for them, the brightest spot in the ride! Made it to Bonsor in time to join my son for his last preschool soccer class. I don't know why people like riding single speed. Either you're grinding up a hill in a gear that's much too high, or you're pedalling like mad going nowhere on the flats. What a horrible thing to do to a good bike!
No commutes for today. Played hookie today and ran around town looking for a new RD. Shoulda gone to New West Cycles first. Grabbed a good used Deore LX rear derailleur and a 7 speed Shimano freewheel plus shifter cable for $20. Everything is back on the bike and I'm looking forward to riding with the extra gears and a long cage derailleur. I know, why would you put Deore parts on a road bike... I works and it was cheap! I could've tried my hands with some old Simplex derailleurs!

Was strange ride today. Coming back to home, there was strong headwind for most of 8 miles. I was struggling. Combined to that unusually hot weather today (94F or so...summer is back!) That warm dry headwind.... was just not right. When I finally got to 5-6% incline for 3.5 mile section, I was just glad to see that hill (no wind there)... Great work out but I am little worn out today.

Warmer ride in today, but steady rain at 40 F ( 4 C). Yesterday on the way home, the front retainer clip on my clipless pedal snapped off; it looks like an easy fix, if the bike store has the parts.

When did they put an air conditioned dome over Columbia to make it even colder than everywhere else? I've checked the official temps in DC and Baltimore and it was never below 31. Even in Frederick at the base of the first ridge of the mountains, it only went down to 27. Even Burlington, VT only got down to 24... How was it 22 where you are? Is your thermometer proerly calibrated?

51 when I rolled out into the rain. I kinda like the rainy commutes but what I don't like is how soaked my feet get. Running shoes and hiking shoes both failed miserably at keeping my feet dry. My waterproof ankle high boots were dry but those are just way too big to be biking in. What do you all wear to keep your feet dry??? Any bike commuter online stores to recommend? I will also check my bike shop but they do not have too much of a clothing stock.

Rainy. 45 degrees or so. Slower ride. Almost lost control over one of the drainage pothole covers

Interesting commute this morning. In the 40s when I left the house with a 10 mph headwind according to Intellicast, although it felt maybe half that as I set out. An hour later, the wind had increased a bit to 12 mph, but according to Intellicast, there were gusts up to 20 mph. It was really odd; at first there was a barely perceptible headwind, then about halfway through it felt like I was riding into a gale.
That same wind should chase me all the way home, so that'll be fun.
This time of year requires a different mind set. Usually I have the wind at my back in the morning and I can ease into the commute, then I have to fight it coming home which is okay because it's usually much warmer. This time of year, I have to steel myself for the ride in at the coldest part of the day and into the wind, but afternoons are easier (but still chilly).

Around 2C/36F with a southeast wind that helped when heading north and hindered when heading east.
I took my favourite park route today for the first time in over 4 months, only to discover that it may not really be my favourite route anymore. It's very quiet and safe, but it's also slow, especially in the dark. Maybe I just need to get used to it again, or beef up my lights a bit.
