Wait, what?

50F for me this morning, with a kicking tailwind. I got to work sweaty. That's because I was bundled up abnormally. I caught a cold, or perhaps even swine flu* and today was my first time on the bike since last Friday. I wanted to stay warm. Wound up riding behind a young woman on a hybrid at 16MPH most of the way in. My lungs burned a bit. I'm not 100%, I guess.

*Several symptoms, but no fever, so who knows what it was...

Beautiful morning, mid 50's. Not sure why, but the wind/chill got to my ears pretty good. They're still tingling......May have to break out the balaclava (I'm used to 90F at 4:30 am, dont give me a hard time) and go in to work ninja style

33F today outside my door. A nice mist covering everything in Denver. Pretty cold out, my jacket kept my mostly dry.

Got the, "You rode in this weather?" look from my coworkers.

If it was swine flu, consider yourself vaccinated!

Nice ride in for me today. Yesterday's wind has abated, so it wasn't an effort to stay moving in a straight line... Cooler temps are back today, too. 50-ish this AM for the ride in. Optimal riding weather for me once I'm warmed up. Still in shorts and back to a long-sleeve tee.

On a potentially sad note, a black squirrel I had been noticing daily along the MUP for the last week is not out in the mornings anymore. I'm hoping that he is just "sleeping in" or has moved to a new tree. He was a cool looking squirrel, and the fact that the parkway is just 100 feet or so away has me worried about a bad outcome for "Chip".

Lost my blinkie on the way in. Mad about that, because I lost another one last week. Grrr. Hoping to find it on the way in tomorrow. Yesterday was unbelieveable! the wind was so insane that at one point, I just burst out laughing.. I was peddling and going nowhere. Took me an hour and 20 minutes to go 11 miles.

Get this: I was in the right turn only lane. No one in front or behind me. I am in the middle of the lane signaling my turn, when this b***ch in a mom-mobile sails by me on my left, cuts me off and turns right right in front of me all the while laying on her horn. Thank goodness I was paying attention and was able to stop in time. I hope I see her again so I have a chance to nicely explain the danger of her actions.

Easy direct ride in this morning. I came in early to prepare for a meeting, then I'm leaving early this afternoon to take the kids to soccer practice. My wife has a late afternoon meeting so we'll load up the trailer bike and my son's bike into the van, she'll drop us off on the way to her meeting and Dad and Twins will ride home.

Same conditions here, riding from Longmont to Boulder. Light drizzle and a little sleet too. With the right clothes it wasn't bad at all, although I should have wore my full shoe covers instead of just my toe covers. My feet were getting a little cold by the end of the ride (12 miles). Hopefully stuff dries out before I go home.

I got the "you're nuts" look too.

Considering I played poker last night, drank beer, stayed up until 1:30am, and woke up at 7:15am...not bad! A little rough getting moving, but the cool air was nice.

Cold, Foggy and damp. This time I am better preppared. Used my wool winter mittens. Fingers not as cold. But I think I need better lighting system than my turtle light. Not sure if it is the cold temperature that is causing the grease in the BB to harden, but it sure felt more difficult to pedal!

Ha, I'm feeling that too, except I think it's the grease in the knees that's starting to harden. A cold foggy commute for me too today, but I love riding in this weather.

Taking it a little slower this week after a close call with a driver Monday morning driving with all his windows still fogged up. I came to a hard stop within about a meter of broadsiding him as he crossed my street, and not sure that he even noticed. I'm glad he wasn't inconvenienced by the experience.

Yesterday I had a woman sweep leaves on me from the sidewalk (I was on the road, waiting for a light), which I assumed was an accident until she started hitting my bike with her broom. It was a little old lady, so I gave her the "huh?" look of disbelief, and she shoo'd me. I figured she wasn't all there, so I just went on with my ride. Easily one of favorite commutes, for sheer ridiculousness.

Bikes: Giant Defy Advanced 0, Rivendell- Sam Hillborne, Montague folding bike.

Nice ride this morning, and a bit damp this evening. Slight tailwind both directions. Can't complain about that. Didn't see even one other bike today. I guess the fare weather riders are packing it in.

Drove my old car today. Tender knees; have to lay off cycling a bit. About to retire and thereafter will simply roll along slowly when the knees are tender; there'll be no rush to get to work. Now I still check my watch when riding and push harder if running late. Also competing against myself for the best time; type A behavior, will be glad to let it go.

Had the MUP mostly to myself today. Dreary overcast, but dry. Headwind. Low 50sF. I felt very slow. Still recovering from my disease I guess.

At some point I got (music band) Porcupine Tree's song "Shallow" in my brain and started singing and playing air/handlebar drums. Good thing the place was deserted.

So my commute home does end w/ 2 sharp uphills (and my am commute begins with those 2 downhills), but moving my daughter to a preschool along my exact route, trailering her 7-8 miles a day instead of 3, has definitely crystallized the realization that my commute into work is definitely mostly uphill, and home is mostly downhill (except for all the climbing at the end).

It was somewhere in the high 30s this morning, coldest start yet but clear and nice. Something down in the drivetrain started screeching as I pedalled, never heard that before. Then in a few minutes it stopped, presumably after the parts got warmed up. Best guess is it was the bottom bracket, which I have neglected to open and regrease. I've been getting by with a stragegically aimed squirt of WD-40 every few weeks to stop the squeaks, but that may not work much longer.

Nice ride home. 55F and comfortable. Light tailwind. Was amused by two peds on the MUP. I was coming up behind them, and set myself up for a pass on their left. Dinged my bell many yards away, and they both turned to look. When they saw me, the woman on the right went to the left shoulder, and the man on the left went to the right shoulder. The woman then realized what they had done and laughed. I chuckled as I split between them and said, "Nice!" Hey at least they tried.

I also stopped to pet Trail Kitty. She's a regular, has no tail and is very friendly. Today she almost rubbed her face on my chainring. I pushed her away before she got into a mess.

First official commute to the new job this morning. Temp in the 40's. My panniers and winter cycling stuff is in transit so I had to improvise. I think I migh try a backpack to carry my clothes and stuff on Monday. The bag I lashed to my rear rack was less than great.

Today I saw a kid in a Trek Livestrong kit on a Madone screaming around the corner of 16th and L. The way he took that corner and rocketed down L Street made me think he's the real deal. Lord help the local roadies if he goes out on the River Ride tomorrow.

Commute today blew chunks. I took the bus (still haven't gotten the repaired Pannier from MEC) and I had an incident with a psycho bus driver. He made me so mad I said "I think I'll ****ing walk." I may have called him a prick, too. I left the bus to start hoofin' it, he pulled the bus over a half block away (not at a bus stop) opened the door, and I'm assuming shouting at me. I ignored him, memorized the bus number and called the bus company and filed a complaint about the driver. The guy was completely looney and I got the distinct impression at least part of his "problem" is the fact I'm a woman.

Anyhoo, I need to freaking ride my bike to and from college like EVERY day. **** the bus.

My commute couldn't have been better. Finally used my studs in the snow and ice. The several days the forecast let me down, but today there was a small amount of snow on these blustery roads. Passed several cars that had trouble making it up a small hill a mile before the front gate of the base. 7 degrees F in the morning 18 degrees on the way home. My new balacava is too nice.
