Bikes: Mongoose Paver

On my trip home last night at 12:30 it was a little on the cold side. Temp was 31 F but with wind chill it felt like 18 F. Had a bad head/cross wind of 30 mph. But the best part was that we got the first snow of the year! It wasn't much, by this morning we had maybe an inch of snow. I think this is the earliest snow we have had in the last 10 year. Hoping its going to be a long, cold, snowy winter!

Bikes: "Hildy", a Novara Randonee touring bike; a 16-speed Bike Friday Tikit; and a Specialized Stumpjumper frame-based built-up MTB, now serving as the kid-carrier, grocery-getter.

First commute home from Summit to Highland Park. I rode to the Chatham train station, about a mile from work with some decent hills. I took the train to Newark Broad Street station, rode 2 hair-raising miles through Newark rush-hour traffic to Pennsylvania Station, then took the train home.

I'm a little apprehensive about riding in Newark every day. There's a light rail from Broad Street to Penn Station, but I think it's actually faster to ride it. On the other hand, people bike commute in cities every day.

Also, my bike is not shifting well. I suspect that the internal 3-speed hub needs maintenance - I can't consistently access first gear, a problem considering the hills near my work.

22° F on the way to the local grocery for some brown sugar to save the night for some chocolate chip cookies.

Freakin' awesome. The ride home was misty and 48 degrees or so, I love riding in the mist. Ears got a little cold, but otherwise it was just freakin' awesome!

Early, good and cold 32, the ride helped me realize I need a ski mask.

Bikes: Too darn many.. latest count is 11

Rode the new bike in today, stopped to dial a few things in. 42 degrees when I left the house, could see my breath for the first time this fall, and was the first day this fall I've had to do full gloves...

It was Firehosing out today! Rainy Days and Mondays....

oh yes it was raining but who turned on the firehoses? I really should not have gone out in it but it was not bad when I started. Not until about 6 miles out on my 10+ mile commute did it start to rain so hard I truly could not see. That lasted all the way into campus. Glad I put on extra layers today. 61 deg/rain will tend to cool you off. Booties on feet did not work as well as expected my feet were very wet on arrival. will have to try the plastic bag trick on my feet next time. Otherwise it was fun. Light explosions on my Dinotte 400L when rain drops would score direct hits on the lamp. Interesting. Raindrops as rainbows in my helmet light's path. Very pretty. Only downside was not being able to see the pot holes. Glad I don't have a fancy bike as I am sure I did it no good today. Was so much fun I get to do it on the ride home today!

Low 30sF. Only saw one cyclist, bmike from these Bike Forums. I was a zombie. Slower than slow. Up too late with friends last night, drinking adult beverages.

Cold and misting... very nice... especially the looks of astonishment from the coffee shop...

40-F on the way in, slight winds. The upper body was a bit chilly (I was wearing a base layer and long-sleeve jersey, full-finger gloves, thermal headband and bike shorts - no leg warmers yet). Should be around 57 coming home. Hoping to use the short-sleeve jersey then.

Some bad juju out there today. Nearly got taken out twice within 6 blocks. And both offending vehicles were black luxury SUVs (Merc. Benz M Class and Range Rover) driven by petite blond women on cell phones. Yikes.

brisk, ~42F; dark enough that I opted for short sleeves under blinding chartreuse coat rather than long sleeves of no particular visibility.

Bikes: Mostly schwinn... few classics

Dense fog, 25 degrees, 4:40 a.m. Silence. 15 miles of awesome on the way to work this morning I loved it. But I am thinking it's time to upgrade to some for of winter footwear.

Heavy cloudcover, looks like rain tomorrow.
52 F when I left the house, a bit too cool for just a jersey, too warm for a rain jacket.

29F this morning. I used my over boots for the first time this season.

I did have a near miss. We had snow over the weekend which is mostly clear from the road. One short section (25 yards at most) with guard rail on my right and high speed traffic on my left still had some cruddy chunks with ice underneath. I thought I could ride through it but immediately started sliding around. I was able to maintain control, slow down, grab the rail, and walk out of the bad area.

Biked to work this morning knowing that it might rain later today. Well, the end of the day is approaching and holy crap it is raining cats and dogs. I brought 2 garbage bags to wrap my backpack in and keep it dry, but it's really coming down. My commute takes about 45 minutes, and looking at the radar, a big wave of green is coming for the next couple of hours. Looks like I'm about to get soaked!

Took out the Surly CC for a Columbus day ride. Ended up at Knickerbikers downtown and bought a rear mounted kickstand. It was 29° F so I wore full length bibs and wool sweater.

^^^^ Nice pictures

Bit of a dash to make a 9am dentist appointment this morning. As a result the chosen route was a bit different, which is fun once in a while! Overcast, threatening skies all day, but made it home dry.

It was a chilly start this morning at 41 F ( 5 C), but pretty smooth. I added a new front light, and it lights up the dark areas, like a searchlight. Oh well, I believe that was my intent. Even though it is not really cold yet, I am still trying out my cold weather gear, and I will have to add to it this year, as last year very little dried out over night.

Damp/Cold/Raw. Low 30sF, and light rain. Slightly higher elevations had snow. I'm just not ready for this yet. The older I get, the less I enjoy it, though I'd be a lot happier if the city would plow the frakkin' MUP.

At any rate, the area beavers have been busy, doing what beavers do. This is about a mile from my house, facing north. I had already gotten the bike under it.

We've had fantastic commuting weather lately in NC. Morning lows in the mid-50s and afternoon highs in the 70s. The week before last I bike commuted every day, but last week I could only ride once because I had to work in another office that is much farther away and lacks showers and a place to store my bike. I'm back in my regular office this week and hope to get back on my biking schedule, if the weather allows. The forecasts are very iffy the rest of the week, and I don't like riding in rain. All of you commuters who lapse rhapsodic about riding in the rain, I just don't get it. I've tried it, and don't like it -- the rain is messy, makes it hard to see through my glasses, your clothes get soaked, drivers don't see you as well, and it's a pain cleaning up your bike afterwards. I admire you rain riders, however, for gutting it out.

Cold his morning, fingers and toes numb. Stood in the server room for a few minutes to thaw out.

Traffic back to normal, after having the roads to myself yesterday.

There were three tracks left in the frost on the bike track, but I haven't seen another bike so faar this week.

It's still warm and sticky in Tampa Bay. The water temp is so high it's noticably warm and muggy as we cross Tampa Bay on the Gandy Bridge (5 mile crossing - 3 miles of bridge and 2 miles of land bridge). When we get to the Tampa side and off the water, the temp drops 5 degrees and it felt like when you walk into an air conditioned building.
My girlfriend ******* me every Tuesday and Thursday on the 18.5 mile one way trip. Gives me a kiss at the parking garage and then rides home. She's riding her titanium Lightspeed while I'm on my cro-moly touring bike with fully loaded panniers. This morning, she pulled me across Tampa Bay at 22+ MPH. After a couple of miles at this speed I finally had to cry Uncle and ask her to slow down for a bit. She settled into a more comfortable pace of about 20+ for the rest of the crossing.

On the Tampa side, going up a residential street with a 30 MPH speed limit, and we are crusing about 20+, and a big fat SUV goes by gunning its engine with the pedal obviously floored, and she shouts with me, in unison "A$$hole!" That's my girl.
