I am strarting to go a little loopy, with one week having being unable to ride my bike due to injury. I find myself staring wistuflly at people going by on their bikes whether I am walking or I am sitting stuck in traffic on a streetcar or bus..
It takes me approx an hour to get to work as opposed to 15-25 minutes on my bike...
How will I survive a "couple" months? I jsut started riding my bike for about 3 months now....its funny how once you bike you never go back....

Anyone else had to stick it out without their bike? Any stories?
I even had a TTC (our transit commision) guy sympathize with me the other day. He came up to me while wiaintg fo a streetcar, with my arm all slinged up in my cast, and says 'ooo what'd you do' So I shared my story of hitting the curb with my bike etc etc. And he says 'good luck, you're going ot be waiting for awhile. sucks to be you without your bike' or something like that....

I've had serious problems with my left knee for about five years now. I've had surgery twice and am scheduled for a third time next month. It used to almost make me cry when I think about how much I missed riding. I gained a ton (65 lbs) of weight and got in crappy shape.

Now I'm riding with one leg. The left leg just sits on a peg and my right leg does all the work in a fixed gear. 100 miles per week for the last two weeks, getting in better shape and loosing weight.

I LOVE TO RIDE!!!

I think part of me is still alittle scared. I wore my cycling shoes yesterday to get myself inthe mood. I've got quite a great bit of inspiration from this forum site though to be hoenst, its keeping me connected. Ithink without this website, I probably would be digruntled and bitter. But I sitll check it everyday and listento what people are saying either to me or about other threads. Its great...

ScheiberBike: What the hell am I complaining about? I think its inspirational that you've foud away. Thats totally the way to carry on in life with all the hard crap that comes our way: cope. In whatever manner: cope. And thats exactly waht you do when you get on your bike.
I think for now I will ehad my doctors advice, I am sure they will tell me that I can start biking soon...I hope. I plan to hit some grass first before tackling downtown toronto, and some knee pads, to make myself feel safe, as my knee as all mangled as yet. Theres nothing I can do for my wrists, which is the area I damaged. So I figure, just get back on the horse..

If I'm not mistaken, you can go to a store like Canadian Tire and ask about wrist-guards for roller-blading, and they'll have something to sell you.

OH WOW.... You still have streetcars?? I wish we still had them but most cities removed them by the 1940's. Street cars are just as slow as a bus but I use a Lightrail based on the similar principle and use that every day. Lightrails if constructed properly can fly!

I HATE BUSES. The last time I rode a bus down Lexington Avenue in Manhattan, I thought we were going to get in an accident. The problem with the bus is the constant stopping to pick up one fare at a time and lets not forget the horrible ride!

I thought that too, but then it was pointed out to me that I can't hold my handles properly as they keep my wrist rigided. similar to what I currently wear to keep my hand immobilized essentially. I've tried, I can't grip too well.

You know, if you got a fixed gear going you could use your feet to stop, as well as one brake, just put the lever on the side of your good hand. Just a thought.

But I totally can't #1 I currently am wearing something which totally immoblizes my hand witht he exception of my fingers. #2. Hurts if I do use it......I can feel it saying 'no!!!' when I try to push it to do what I want..
