What increase?
There's less school kids outside than ever, as there was about 2 inches of snow on the road yesterday. That's all gone now, roads are clean, but it's still damn cold.
I guess I was the only one with the guts of going out with a road bike though
Besides that, I know my new year's resolutions have changed quite a bit from 2009. I've decided on riding at least 7000km this year (which also includes pleasure rides, not just commuting). I think I will be able to ride more than that though. Last year was my first year of commuting, which included lots of excuses on not having to ride (rain, cold, not feeling well, et cetera). I've noticed my fitness has improved, I actually decided to ride instead of take the easy way (public transport) a couple of times. I'm feeling good, it's fun, why not keep doing it

Definitely not in my neck of the woods. I'm the only one I've seen out there lately, with lows just below freezing and highs just above freezing. Even at the organic coop last night, the bike racks were empty.

It certainly seems there are a few more cyclists out this week, particularly on the Mt Vernon Trail, than I was seeing in December. I was going to keep count, but ran out of fingers and toes.

Here in Victoria BC there are scads of commuters throughout the year. Temps are mild (relatively speaking) and it's mostly flat and easy to get around. We get wet this time of year, but rarely freeze.

Actually, I was out biking the other day, and there's was a surprsing number of bikes on the road. Not summer volumes, but considering it was below -20ºC, it was pretty busy. I saw probably a dozen cyclists or so on my ride (not counting the people going to the same cycle-related event as I was). This was later in the evening, too, not typical commuting hours.
The other cycle commuter at my office hadn't been riding the last few times I did (not sure if he wasn't riding for a while, or if we're both down to "sometimes" and had just been picking different days), but his bike was also there yesterday.

Bikes: Cannondale Synapse '06, Mongoose titanium road bike '00--my commuter. Yes, Mongoose once made a decent ti road bike.
Here in Southern California the number of commuting cyclist on the road has increased a lot since last year. The best part is that during the dark hours a higher percentage are now using front and rear lights!! Interestingly most of the headlights are blinkies of the 'to be seen' variety. I still barrel by using my steady and traditional Dinotte headlight.

I am the only nut around riding a bike in the snow and cold of Great Falls, MT. I am just here for less than a year, so I didn't invest in much cold weather gear either. A friend at work gave me a gortex jumpsuit type of coveralls for a rain suit, but it's my base for sub zero riding. A balaclava with ski goggles and lined waterproof ABU boots keep me from freezing.

Here in fairly frigid (with the wind lately) DC, I got a wave from a motorcyclist this evening while I was trucking the 1.5 miles from my office to the bus! Guess he figured we were both nuts. I won't argue.

Heyyy a fellow Victoria commuter.. I noticed very few communters at the beggening of the week. But then by Wednesday when the rain stopped I probably counted close to 30 pass by between 4pm and 5pm heading up Fort St.
