sure Target should have something like that but you might have to hunt around. Try a local hardware store. It's just a big clip.

I was thinking though - in case of emergency one could usually ditch the bag and escape but being attached like this you might get dragged to your death. some kind of break-away clip would be smarter. like if the caribiner were made of plastic, you know? maybe a cat collar - they are break-away

maybe, but I don't walk around with it clipped in like that, I usually open my bag, get out my lights and computer, attach and take off lock, put lock in bag, flip back around and hop on bike.. I then clip the carabiner as I exit the parking garage or the area where I locked up. And when I get to a destination I unclip (usually before I'm off the bike) switch out lock for lights and computer, and flip the bag around and don't clip it back on. So the only way that would really come into play would be if someone grabbed the bag while I was riding, in which case I'm gonna be going down even if it wasn't clipped on. Really i'm just justifying why I'm not gonna spend the time or money to go find another clip when I've got this one that has been working fine for about half of my lifetime.

Whoops, so I called Timbuk2 and apparently the X-Small bag doesn't have a clip and it's too late to cancel, I can't return, and I can't refuse shipment (or rather I could but they won't refund - is this really true? can they charge me for a product I don't receive??)

Any ideas?

Just a couple points to lob in here:

Someone mentioned that the carabiners sold at Target/etc aren't as strong as proper climbing ones sold at REI. Truth. But realise the belt loop on a pair of jeans was never designed to take a serious load(when you clip something to your belt,it spreads the load across a couple loops). Also,no offense but I don't see the point of doing this. If you're wearing your bag properly,it's high on your back and a carabiner prolly won't reach a belt loop. I've never had an issue with my T2 bags sliding about when the bag was up on my back and the cross strap was used.

Misha: you do realise the Eula and XS T2's are basically purses,right? I mean they're pretty small and don't have much capacity. You certainly won't be hauling any goceries with them. If that's what you want,fine,just giving you a head's up. I have a small that I've used as a walking around bag,it's ok but also doesn't haul much. A medium isn't so big as to be unwieldy,but can carry a fair amount of stuff.

My Courierwear bag didn't have a cross strap when I got it. I added a T2 strap by putting a D ring on one of the flap straps. I unthreaded the buckle off the strap(had to pop the stitches out of the tip),slid the D ring on,then replaced the buckle. Then I just clipped the T2 strap to it. QED

Also,FYI for anyone in the market for a T2;if you're not super picky about color eBay and various outlet sites carry them for as low as half off MSRP. Steepandcheep has them sometimes too.

If it's not a custom,your credit card might back you if you don't open the package and mark it "return to sender". If it's custom,I think you're stuck with it. For adding a strap,see above post.

Christ almighty, all of this over a carabiner for a man-purse? Go to any drug store, hardware store, Target, Walmart, anywhere.

Okay, i think misha is talking about the actual plastic clip that the caribiner is clipped onto... Just to clear that up. Additionally, there was another messenger bag thread a while back where I explained that the reason I came up with the carabiner idea was so that I COULD wear my bag low, because, well, that's where I like it. I carry 2 composition books, bike lock, tools/spare/pump, one notebook, and occasionally a text book. Since I'm not carrying a ton of stuff I just prefer to have it low, it's more comfortable for me. And I don't wear the cross strap, it would probably be redundant to wear the cross strap and carabiner, I use the carabiner as an alternative cause it is easier and I don't need it to be load-bearing, it is just there to keep the bag from sliding around to the front when I ride. If i'm getting groceries I ride my pos 198x motobecane with the big home-made wooden box on the back.

Misha, if you are going to be using the clip/ carabiner like I do just to keep the bag stable, then you could always sew a loop onto the side of the bag to clip the carabiner to.

Didn't know bags could cause such a stir, i just experimented until I found out what worked for me!

I believe Timbuk2 state as much on their return policy section. They don't typically accept returns on custom bags because they are made to order.

BTT, why not just get a bakpack? I think the carabiner set up would be a pain to work, especially if you're in a hurry.

Our local hardware store sells those carabiners as key rings, they must be available in most hardware stores these days.

I find that any messenger bag slips around if I am wearing a slippery jacket. I don't have any problem while wearing polar fleece, wool, or cotton. The waist strap on my Baily bag dosen't help too much.
