misha-
whatever you want to do is obviously your business, but i have to say that i think "refusing a delivery" on a custom bag is pretty bad form. I think you are much better off to either

1. sew a clip on yourself-- it's not that hard. use a key ring if you don't have a D ring. it's not that big of a deal
2. sell your XS on craigslist and buy a small

As for the carabiners, really, you can buy them even in drug stores. the five dollar/seven dollar ones you were looking at from REI's website are going to weigh enough to pull your pants down, if clipped onto belt loops. Maybe not literally, but they are very heavy.

as for tucking the slack, even the XS timbuk2 has cam buckles.

lastly, there's a reason why xs timbuk2 don't have clips for cross straps-- with the little capacity it has, if worn correctly, you really don't need annything to keep it inplace.

Btw is there a good place to tuck the slack from the shoulder strap?

I stuff it under the flap buckle on that side.

Are you wearing the bag high up on your back? I've never had an issue with bags sliding when using a sternum strap, even with a rain jacket in the rain.

In all fairness I did
(i) call them the _very next day_ after I placed the order
(ii) order and _pay for_ and _keep_ a small
(iii) the web site does _not_ state that the buckle is not present on the XS.

I think I am in a good position ethically to get money back on XS.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but Timbuk2 sucks.

I went to the Timbuk2 store in SF this afternoon and asked about ordering an extra small messenger bag with a stabilizer strap. They won't allow it. The snotty clerk told me nobody would ever ride a bike with an extra small bag. I told him I would.

I don't get it. I know it's easy to add a D-ring, but I don't want to have to DIY with a brand new expensive bag. If their extra small isn't for riding, why do they bother making it with the cam-buckles?
