Messenger bag that does not slide
Dear All:
I am looking for a messenger bag that can carry an HP Mini 5101
https://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en...0-3973865.html
10" netbook
Dimensions (w x d x h)
10.30 x 7.09 x 0.91 in (262.0 x 180 x 23.2 mm)
_without_ sliding on my back all the time while I'm riding.
Any advice? Timbuktu?
Thank you!
Misha

You need a messenger bag with a sternum strap (or whatever it's called). Wearing it higher and packing it with something malleable between the laptop and the back of the bag helps too. You want the bag to be able to conform to the shape of your back. If you pack it so the laptop is right up against your back, there'll be only a small contact point against your back which won't be as comfortable and more likely to slide.
Since I change at work I'm bring my clothes along. I usually fold my pants and put them between my laptop sleeve and the back of the bag.

I have the medium size from Bailey Bag Works. Has a chest strap. Holds a 15" Macbook Pro with room to spare. Only issue is that it's so big that if I fill it, it gets a little tiring to carry on my 20+ mile commute...

Thanks guys for tips. What do you think of these suggestions?
Try a Dakine Messenger or Porter Bag with a waist strap.
look into the Chrome brand. I own one and it's great.
I'm really looking for something _small_ like
https://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/products/...er/custom-eula
but it unfortunately does not come with belt strap (or cute Asian
)
Misha
p.s. even this one is good

you need a stabilizer strap aka third leg or cross strap.
Google image it. There are a dozen tutorials on how to make one yourself on instructable.com
Timbuk2's Small will fit the netbook you described. It doesn't come with a cross strap, but if you have straps and buckles (cut off from old bag or buy them at REI), it takes about 10 minutes to make one.
With a cross strap you can use whatever messenger bag you have/will have/already have.

While a cross strap is always good for security, most bags with properly angled straps that comfortably ride high don't need the the strap for light loads. Examples are Chrome, Bailey, PAC, and ReLoad. The issue with Timbuk2 and the like is that the straps fight against the bag laying flat on your back and are designed to ride low, where they sway.

Angled straps are definitely great when wearing the bag high, (as any messenger bag really should be worn under load). However, I don't have the issue you described with my Timbuk2 Classic large. In fact one of the things I like about the bag is that it conforms to the shape of my back regardless of how much is in the bag. I don't like to wear my bag low, however, specially if I am carrying heavy items. The strap doesn't sit properly across my chest/shoulder and the bag impedes my ability to walk or ride comfortably. High and snug is the way to go.

i bought a nashbar, not sure if it is big enough for you, but it is useable and has the third strap. no problems with sliding. has worked for me without any problems at all.
(i am a cheapskate, so will not pay much for bags or panniers, so take my recommendation with a grain of salt)

For something small and not too expensive, I'd go with a Chrome. It's the best bag for your money, between the quality of construction and ergonomic strap system. I'm too lazy to check their website right now, but I think you can get any of their mess bags with a laptop compartment too.

wow....just wow...
Does give me an idea for dealing with dogs though.
and a note on chromes, make sure you get the right' handed' bag. Timbuk2s and the like can be used on either shoulder, but Chromes are sided. For some reason, I favor a 'left handed' bag (as in over right shoulder), who knows, you might too.

BanjoBros makes an AWESOME commuter backpack - it's awesome - totally waterproof, big and roomy without being insanely large.

I got that carabiner like 12 years ago, that's why it's all worn down to the metal. I have no idea where it is from, I think someone gave it to me or something. Still goin' strong though.
