I rode my bike to the arena to buy tickets to the monster truck show for my son.
Bike commuting saves me less gas than I use in my power boat for skiing and tubing.

I have been known to go straight from wrenching on one of my bikes to wrenching on one of my cars. I like cars, trucks, boats, planes and bikes. I guess I just like things that go!!! Fixing up, maintaining and driving old cars has been my hobby for years. And I like a nice old bike too.

My wife. We tend to be ying and yang. I bike, she drives an SUV; I am an engineer, she is an artist; I have a hard time singing on key, she is a wonderful musician. I am nearsighted, she is farsighted.
While all these and more tend to be opposites, I think it is also what balances our relationship.

I ride 4 miles one way, 6 days a week, saving 48 miles, or about 2 gallons of gas, each week.
My wife lives several states away, and I drive to see her every few weeks, 760 miles round trip, or about 27 gallons of gas.
I used to fly an airplane that burned over 3,000 gallons of fuel an hour.
But riding makes me happy, and driving never did.

When I first got a car, I liked the convenience, but there was always a big letdown. Not too far down the road, there was an expensive repair or a big insurance bill that really dulled the shine.

I love cars.
When I first started bike commuting again, I put down the car thing for a while. Now it's back.
Anyway, used to autocross occassionally and even tried a TSD rally once before getting too busy. If I had to cut something out of my life, I suppose diddling with cars would be the easiest to lose. Biking in general pays me back in a number of ways, whereas the car hobby really doesn't. So, I'll keep bikes and coffee.
Oh, yeah, coffee is my other one, but I don't consider that to be a dichotomy. More of a symbiosis. My "kit" is pretty basic, but I'm into espresso and I've recently started roasting my own beans when I can find the right kind of "green."
