Let's turn the situation around. Suppose it had been you turning right and coming up fast on a much slower cyclist. Then suppose that just as you were about to pass he moved across to the thru lane, causing you to brake to avoid hitting him. And suppose he had done this without signalling his lane change.

re: "cagers little bubble of invincibility"

I agree they are usually quite surprised to be confronted by an individual. They are used to everyone staying in their car and swearing; hand gestures and horn blowing. It is quite rare indeed that a cager gets out of their vehicle to confront another cager - and when that happens - it's usually violent. so when an individual approaches their car - you get their attention right quick! no need to rant rave and break stuff, your mere pressure shakes them up a bit.

So far the only time i've been yelled at was when i was heading home from a friend's house in a snow storm and it was dark. I had my lights and flashing vest on and they told me i was their hero. Not sure if they were serious or not. On my commute to school about a month ago though, I was beeped at by someone because "apparently" i was in that person's way.

Yelled "get on the sidewalk" at me as he made the turn. By the time I process what he said and turned around, he already had his window up, and was just looking at me(instead of looking where he was going). Felt like yelling back, but kept quiet and went about my business. Got a good chuckle out of it though.
Respond with "Get on the freeway."

Funny. There is a local road where there is no way to legally beat the time it would take to use freeway, but a lot of people drive on it anyway. I really wish they would take the freeway instead.

I got some whoops and cat calls on the MUP yesterday. Just shook my head and started pedaling faster.

I get shouts regularly from the high school crowd as I go by West High, but they're mostly about the Monkeylectric lights on the front wheel.

I was unaware that *****exuals were restricted to the sidewalk. Do they get their own drinking fountains and bathrooms, too?

There is the original meaning of gay.
1 a : happily excited : merry <in a gay mood> b : keenly alive and exuberant : having or inducing high spirits <a bird's gay spring song>

Of course, when yelled at the first thing to do is confirm that you are, in fact, not doing anything that would justify you being yelled at. If you check and are not riding like a dickhead, proceed to next step.

You missed the deeper meaning of this. And basically, it startles the cagers. If you just yelled back FU at them they get more angry, but this just confuses the crap out of them.

Yeah, I know what the original meaning was. I also know what it means now.

You could equally confuse them by stating that you're not a pink gorilla. It seems like the statement "I'm not gay" regarding sidewalk versus road biking when confronting angry motorists denying your right to the road loads the term gay with negative connotation, which is a common and detestable practice.

I take back what i said earlier. Two cars must have read what i wrote . On the commute heading home, i had a girl in the passenger seat of one car yell "woooo" and i just waved. Later on during the commute i had some idiot guy in the passenger seat of another car scream something. I think he swore at me, but i couldn't tell. He was probably someone who sits on the couch all getting fat and never get outside to get fresh air. I didn't have the chance to wave cuz i was climbing a big hill, but i kinda wish i had to make him feel dumb. Both times i was just minding my own business. I think they were both trying to frighten/startle me, but they didn't.

Which station are you riding from? I live in castle rock used to drive half my commute. I used to park at the mineral station and ride to evens on the platte. That parking lot is filled by 7:00AM, so I started parking in the lot for the nature center. After a couple of months I got a nasty note left on my car saying the lot was strickly for park users and not bike commuters. I then moved out to the trailhead/dogpark lot at 470 and Santa Fe until I almost had my car locked in one night. That's when I got bold and started parking on the south side of chatfield. My ride grew from 7 miles to 10 to 18 each way, and blossumed from two or three times week in the summer to full on, daily, year round commuting. The S. Platte Greenway is a great MUP as long as you keep your speed in check and try not to associate yourself with the guys that are using it to train. Those guys kill people on that MUP.....literally.

He was not about to pass me on the left. He was very clearly directly behind me... doing as he should. If there was any indication he was about to pass me on my left, I would not have moved left. It was quite clear he was going to wait it out, but he was obviously frustrated no less.

This reminds me of the traffic skit by a comedian I saw(heard?) before... (don't know if it's real or made up, can't remember)stuck in traffic, the guy behind him starts honking. Clearly, there is no place to go, yet the guy keeps honking. Eventually he gets out of his car, and goes up to the car in front yelling at him to move! So the comedian yells back "give me back my coat!" The angry guy is now very confused, as the comedian keeps yelling at him to give him back his coat, because he borrowed it. So my angry gets back in his car, and stops with the yelling and honking, believing the comedian is bonkers.

That's a shame, Denver drivers are usually pretty friendly.

Whenever I get a "get on the sidewalk" I choose between yelling back "You first!" (sidewalk riding is illegal in Denver) or just smiling and waving like they're making a joke. The latter is particularly cruel because it really seems to piss them off.

This is my standard response, for that very reason. The motorist just gets huffy, maybe curses or honks one more time, and drives away. So I win, because that's all I wanted them to do.

And I don't think it's cruel at all. They're the one who decided to harass a fellow commuter for no legitimate reason.
