Bikes: specialized crossroads hybrid 2006 Raleigh Cadent 2 1971 Schwinn Varsity, 1972 Schwinn Continental, 1977 Schwinn Volare (frame)

Took a 13 mile RT the Windsor today, reinforced what I thought about the pedals they suck. I rotated the bars back a bit and they are pretty comfortable. Gotta tilt the nose up on the Brooks just a shade but all in all not too bad I had all kinds of junk in the panniers, tools mostly just in case something went haywire and boy I didn't realize how heavy that stuff was. I decided I'm not too thrilled with the panniers since they weigh about twice what my other Axioms do so I changed them out for commuting. Bought some Koolstop brake pads but haven't gotten them installed yet. Thats on the list for tomorrow.Taking the bike in to my buddy at the bike shop to do a number on the wheels too. Got the Planet Bike Super Flash mounted this afternoon so thats taken care of and my battery for the headlight is charging as I write this so I should be ready to go at 4:00 am tomorrow morning. Its gonna be a really nice bike after I work out all the little picky things. First thing was the Brooks its a winner for sure. This bike has a bit of old school look to it and I like that. Will post pic as I do the little things. I might replace the stem for an adjustable one.

Bikes: Windsor Tourist

Glad to here you are liking the tourist. I have the same bike and I love it. I agree about the stock pedals sucking, replaced those with some nashbar touring clipless pedals and am liking them much better. The stock tires should work fine for you for a while, I rode mine for almost a thousand mils and never had a flat, just replaced them recently with some 25c conti ultra gatorskins for less weight and rolling resistance.

Have fun with your new bike!

I suspect you probably know this already, but I've found that it helps to ride a new bike with a multitool in my pocket for the first few weeks and make minor adjustments en-route. That's always been the best way for me to get a bike really 'dialled in' just right.

Ordered some Panaracer Pasela TG's I'll keep the stock tires for spares. I decided this after riding to work yesterday and hearing that annoying whirrrrrrrrr of the stock pieces and the fact they really roll rough. Cyclaholic I ride with a plethora of tools all the time so I can do those odd adjustments but the bike was close enough I made those after the ride on Sunday and again after I got to work yesterday. Put on the Koolstops but haven't ridden the bike since I will be removing the wheelset to get them trued and at this early part of the spring when I haven't ridden a lot I need to take a day or two off the bike to prevent some issues the men of a certain age can be affected by.
