I had complications. It sucked. I was on daily aspirin regimen for a heart issue at the time, and the doctor forgot to tell me to stop taking it. When I showed up for the procedure, the nurse asked me if I was on any medication and I said daily aspirin. The doctor came in and said, oh well, let's just go ahead and do it. Because of the aspirin, I had bleeding. It was a long and painful recovery. No problems now though, but I'll never get it reversed or volunteer for any other procedure down there.

I had it done about 20 years ago and from what I remember it wasn't a big deal. I little discomfort and odd tugging sensations that reached into the lower belly but that was all. I was also given a goofy little "sling" to wear... that didn't happen.

Had mine done about 8 years ago, right after my 3rd child was born.

Funniest thing, after I had been properly injected with lidocain, the doctor looked at me and said, "Ready to get started numbnuts?"

Just to add a data point: I had the scalpel-less procedure with the vaso-clips (plus cut and cauterized; no more kids for me!). They gave me some valium beforehand and the procedure itself was not a problem. The scalpel-less procedure meant that the scrotum healed fast. I could not ride my bike for at least 3 weeks and was sad at the time. I could not ride it far for 4 weeks. I think this has something to do with having the vaso-clips but that is just my theory.

I am very satisfied and I would do it again.

You may be confusing the "decision" (BIG deal)... vs. the "procedure" (no big deal)...??

Well, instead of just criticizing, why don't you explain your objection so we can understand your viewpoint?

Yeah, though i'm not confused. The decision is a huge deal and that is what i'm talking about, compared to the decision the operation is peanuts. Only reason i was concerned was that another poster said he knew the operation was inevitable, like he was being nudged into it as if it was his only choice. Which would just be wrong.

Yea, for me it came down to the fact that my wife couldn't use birth control, a hysterectomy is invasive, and condoms fail and aren't very fun. So the logical choice was a vasectomy. The thought of it made me want to cry like a baby.. but logic prevailed. I think it's normal for most guys to have some reservation about doing this.. some kind of primal thing.

LOL. No laugh here on this end. Just standing salute for all of ya for your bravery and courage and decision. Hysterectomy for women does take a longer healing period, unless we do the knot which I think the correct medical term is Tubal Ligation?? Or something like that. But regardless, any sterilization is better than having to stay home and take care of all those kids which only affect or choice of commuting when we our time are shorten.

Hmmm, maybe someone can do a thread about having too many kid affecting our commuting option? Poll perhaps?

Yeah... My wife's doctor suggested a tribal litigation.
I couldn't beleive it! I said no way! Can't we just settle our differences without the legal system?

I've had worse days in the dentist's chair. Sore for a few days, was back on the bike after a week. In retrospect, I should have played up the spousal sympathy more.

I guess it'll come for me, too, once we're done having kids.

My parents went the other way and my mom got tied up after their third.

You have probably the COOLEST Doc ever!

I had mine done after Boy#3.... If I left the decision up to the wife, we would be on #6 by now! We have three boys and she desperatly wants a girl.... not my fault all I produce are Y chromosomes!

I had mine done in the Dr's. office. he had an old Dentist chair and a TV mounted up on the wall. I hate Seinfeld (REALLY HATE) and that was the ONLY DVD the guy had. I asked if he had a hand miror and watched the procedure! I was in Nursing School at the time and was interested..... REALLY COOL!!!! And he was able to tell that I have had.... TRAUMA down there before.... evidently the boys were kinda overgrown with scar tissue!

I took a good week off of the bike... Had a harder time keeping "Rosey and her 5 sisters" from getting involved.... That did kinda hurt.

You guys got anesthetic to take home? Why? It's not like it hurt or anything. 'Course, I don't even have them use local when I get stitches or dental work either, so maybe my view is biased.

Getting your V badge is one of the easiest things a boy scout can do... it is much harder for the girl scouts to earn their badge and has a lot more pain and risk of complications.

I am not laughing here. If I could give you all a big hug I would. It is great that so many of you have been cut and are not afraid to "talk about it. My father had it done after I was born because he knew it was the right thing to do. It is a very manly thing to do. Unfortunately women cannot have their business handled so easily.
