About 20 miles each way.

54km each way, so not one I do every day. I'd do it more, if it were over better (less poorly maintained) roads, as discussed in another current thread. As it is, I can only bring myself to do it a couple times a week.

15 miles one way

91MF 05-09-10 03:15 PM

30.1km[18.7mi] with heavy traffic and horrendous road conditions. takes about an hour.

doorunrun 05-09-10 05:22 PM

5.9 miles....a mixture of larger roads and suburban neighborhoods....about 25 minutes.

buzzman 05-09-10 05:42 PM

10.2 miles via bikepath, 8.6 miles streets.

supercycle62 05-09-10 06:27 PM

Aprox. 2 miles. That's enough for me. :D

desuism 05-09-10 06:30 PM

6 miles (~10km) in the San Fernando Valley. About 4 of those miles are on the Metro Orange Line Bike Path. If that path didn't exist I don't think this commute would really be doable, the harassment I get on three blocks of traffic is bad enough some mornings.

waynesworld 05-09-10 06:35 PM

~6 miles in, the way I usually go. Coming home it's anywhere from 6 to 8 miles, depending on the route taken. I generally take the most direct route in, then a longer route home, depending on what time it is.

zoodude 05-09-10 06:36 PM

.8 miles to work, avg about 5 to everything else.

JPprivate 05-10-10 08:28 AM

guess this should have been a poll....

candafilm 05-10-10 10:42 AM

10 miles to work. Huge hill at the end. Will make for easy riding home though.

destikon 05-10-10 11:00 AM

7.6 miles to work. The first mile is a hill. Ick!

Hyperspeeder 05-10-10 09:39 PM

About 6 miles or so, one of these days I'll measure the exact amount.

BigDaddyPete 05-11-10 04:37 AM

18 miles in, 22 miles out. I like to mix it up. Yesterday I wandered, found a new route and did some hill training. Made it closer to 30 home. But it was a beautiful day.

RE: commute length.

4.3 mi short, 4.8 long (for hill avoidance purposes.)

I tend to do the short one just because the worst hill is right at the start heading back but acts as a cool down while going in to work.

Unfortunately my act isn't together (I'm working on weather contingencies) so I only get to ride a few times per week.

It's funny how it only takes about 10 minutes more on the bicycle than my motorcycle. Though between the two, I've managed to only drive into work less than ten times in a year. Those have either been transporting gear or other people, or weather related.

dwilbur3 05-11-10 06:38 PM

9.16 miles each way. Recently I've been stretching it out a bit for Bike month.

lshaped 05-12-10 11:09 AM

21.4 miles of which 6 miles is rail trail, the rest neighborhood/city streets

Willy Gee 05-12-10 11:20 AM

6 or 5.5 miles, depending on route. 6 mile trip involves 3.5 on dirt paths/roads.

In Summer

In Winter

cellery 05-12-10 06:13 PM

Six miles each way. Another friendly cyclist takes the same path for a duration of his commute and told me he goes 14 miles each way. I told him I would love for my commute to be that long. Often, after arriving at home in such a short distance, I feel like I have my excuse to go veg out. Having a longer commute would force me to get out there and pedal longer every day and not just the weekends.

djlarroc 05-12-10 09:19 PM

7.19 miles.... planning to ride to work this summer.

TuckertonRR 05-13-10 06:21 AM
