Pitlock Skewers on Horizontal Rear Drop Outs?
Pitlock skewers are not recommended on horizontal drop outs. I am debating between a LHT & Cross Check. Would like the added security of the Pitlock skewers as I am thinking about trying an IGH. Anyone successfully using Pitlock Skewers on Horz. Drop Outs? If not, anyone running an IGH (targeting the new Shimano 11 sp) on a LHT (sans chain tensor)? Any and all advice welcome.

Pitlocks don't work with any internal gear hub except the Rohloff, last time I checked. The pitlock solid axle set is 10mm, while the shimano is 9.5.
If you want to run an IGH on an LHT you will need a tensioner, unless you try the magic gear thing:

I've used pitlocks on the rear horizontal dropouts of my cross check. One day changing a flat I overtightened the pitlock and snapped the skewer. I think you are supposed to tighten it with your fingers, and then go one more rotation with the tool. I just put my old QR skewer back on the bike, since my lock gets my rear wheel anyway. I know some other people on the forums have used pitlocks with a cross check without any trouble, YRMV.

Use the pit lock on the front, and wrap a U-Lock around the rear wheel ala Sheldon Brown.
You need to be using an enclosed cam skewer on horizontal dropouts otherwise you'll learn as pasopia did, in order to get enough clamping force, you have to tighten the locking skewer enough to bust it.
