Since I started commuting to work I've been pretty careful to avoid wet commutes. Lately though, I've been taking more chances with rain chances because I love riding to work. I checked the radar this morning and although rain was moving in it looked as though I would miss the worst part. Made it in without seeing the first drop! There was not supposed to be rain this afternoon. Its' storming.....

I do have a performance hi vis cycling rain jacket, but no helmet cover or cover for my Brooks saddle. I may try to wait it out....

If you put the first coat of Proofide on your Brooks, you'll be OK.

Regarding the helmet, my opinion is that it is dumb to commute without a helmet. (rain or no rain) You should rectify that ASAP.

Regarding the jacket, does it breathe enough not to make you hotter? I've found that with rain jackets, I still end up wet, but from sweat instead of the weather. Plus I stink more. I'd rather be wet from rain and not stink too.

I never ride without a helmet. What I ment to say was that I have no rain cover for my helmet. I'm going to give it another 20 minutes to see if it stops.

Beware: If you use hair product, either wear some kind of absorbent hat beneath your helmet, or try to wash the product out. I rode a good 2 miles yesterday with one eye only.

A disposable shower cap will do wonders to protect your saddle, if you are worried, keep one at work. I bicycle commute every day, regardless of weather and have never used a helmet cover - don't worry about it. Just ride, have fun!

Riding in the rain can actually be quite pleasant, especially on warm days.

Helmet covers are very much like riding with a heater on your head. Your head ends up wet either way. I have one, but I use it for cold days, not rainy days.

As long as I'm not riding thru a monsoon or a hurricane, most rains are pretty nice for riding. At least in the spring and summer. Those icy needles of rain in the late fall and early winter are painfully cold. Once you have the gear to protect you during chilly rides, it's not so bad.

If you are riding to work in rainy weather, it feels great changing into dry clothes when you arrive. I comfort myself with that thought.

To the OP, I think you mean it "surely looks like rain."

Started out dry yesterday at about 3 blocks into my ride it started to sprinkle. I thought about turning around but kept riding and it kept raining harder. Oh well it was nice not much traffic and it didn't pour just a showery type of rain. On the way home, a differrent story. It poured and there was a pretty stiff headwind ( an added bonus) Oh well I had my good raingear on and I didn't melt. I must add this was the first ride in the rain with my new bike, Oh that was tough to get my nice new bike all wet but man those Planet Bike fenders I installed did yeomans work, kept the a lot of crud off me and the frame so they were a great addition

If the Brooks gets wet, it will come back after a couple of treatments with Proofide. If I think it is going to rain, I use a plastic grocery bag tied over the saddle which works great.
