About to start commuting
I just started a sweet new job that is only 5 miles from home and very bike friendly. We have a full gym with showers and lockers plus bike storage rooms on each floor so I no longer have an excuse not to commute.
With my next paycheck I am going to pick up a Soho S. I already have a safe route planned and I can't wait to get started

With only 5 miles, you may not need to shower at work for much of the year! Personally I like having a range of gears on my commute bike sinc my loads tend to vary a lot, and there are times that I want to go fast, or just cruise home and enjoy the scenery. - The Trek PDX would be more my speed from the Trek line....

I recommend the going for the carbon fork like on the 2nd District, it really helps with some of the road chatter.
On the downside you wont be able to use a front pannier, but most people would never use those anyways.

I planned my route and just checked it out with Google Streetview, seems to be about 90% quiet neighborhoods. Looks like a pretty safe ride. Here is a graph on the elevation changes. Any opinions on this with an SS?
