Night Rider...
OK I'm not the Hoff.
Wifey asked me to do a library run yesterday after dinner as some of the books are due. Decided to ride my bike instead of driving.
Haven't ridden at night for a looooonnngggg time. In fact I think the last time I ever rode at night was when I was still a young lad.
It really brought back childhood memories of riding around neighborhood at night. Everything seemed quieter and muffled. Really enjoyed the clean crisp air of the evening due drops. Truly a peaceful experience.
Unlike my younger wily days, my bike now is more lit up.
Looking fwd to more evening library runs.
Does anyone still use the library these days?

Returned two Thomas the Tank Engine DVDs, a Thomas Book, and a Lightning McQueen book just this morning on the way into work.
BTW, I love riding at night. I've got some lights coming which will put me back out there after the kids go to bed.

I love riding late at night. It's so much quieter. I have a lot of lights on the bike and on my person, many in blinky mode, so I like to pretend I am a UFO.
Edited to add - I am a wholehearted library user! I read so much that if I had to buy all those books, I would not be able to afford bike stuff. Or food. Or rent. (I go through *at least* a book a day, often 2-3. I read freakishly fast, in the 99th percentile for speed, comprehension and retention. My attention span for other things is somewhere down in the 20th percentile though

I ride in the dark in the morning most commuting days. This past Tuesday I worked late and didn't start home until after 8 pm. The roads are so much more peaceful after rush hour and the weather was just perfect. Very nice.

Got a Nite Rider Sol 2.0 as an easy fit for my tricross comp. Haven't tried it yet.
Cygo lite dual cross works well on my C-dale road warrior as does the generator light on
my Raleigh Roadster Superbe.

If I plan to seriously ride after dusk, I would have to invest in some serious front lighting gear. My current PB 1W doesn't quite cut it. It only manages to lit about 3-4 feet ahead.
BTW, my local library is moving to a larger facility next year!
Hopefully the bike parking facility is good.

Once a month I either ride or walk the mile to our local library for our running club meeting (Iroquois Hill Runners). There's a nice, if small, bike rack out front, and a friendly security guard who hangs around outside to keep an eye on things (there are a lot of kids who frequent the library, and you know how kids are).
However, it's been a long time since I checked a book out. After I retire at the end of the year I plan to use it a LOT more.

I'm a regular at the town library both for books and movies. I go on night rides quite often. The coffee shop, market, stuff like that. Actually its the same time as in summer but darkness has caught up.

As for night riding, there is something REALLY nice about it. I usually pedicab once a week (either on a Friday or a Saturday night). Often don't leave for home until 1 AM or so those nights. I used to ride straight home. The last couple weeks, I've hit the MUP on the way home for an extra five miles or so making a BIG detour. It's so nice and quiet along the river at that time of night, and there's a lot less traffic on the parkway next to it. Riding along in that kind of quiet is really something special.

We homeschool our kids, the library is like a second home to us. And yes, I like riding at night, as long as I don't eat too many mosquitos.

I did once roll in my bike into the library for pick up. They didn't seem to mind. Then again there would be no way I want to leave my carbon roadie outside even for a few minutes.
Hahaha.... I wonder with the iPad and its ilks, how long more will the paperbacks life left.
Used to work a library once in Uni. Dewey Decimals and all that. Has the card catalog been replaced? I would so love to work in our local library again.
