Peak angry driver day?
I've noticed that drivers usually pull their worst moves/honk, etc. on Fridays. I guess people are antsy for the weekend?
Just this morning, on a 40 mph road, I looked behind me for traffic, saw a car way back, signaled left (headed towards the left turn lane) and I hear this long angry honk way behind me. He was well behind me and had plenty of time to see me, etc. He even honked AS I made the lane change, so surely he saw my signal. Anyhow, the worst part was he came up right behind me, passed on the right, drove along side and gave me another couple of honks, continued onwards and TURNED RIGHT. he didn't even need to be in that lane for cryin' out loud.
So are Fridays like this for you or are drivers generally on their game all week long?

Yesterday was my worst day in awhile. Almost the same thing. Red light ahead, I signalled and moved into the left turn lane, and a driver crossed the double yellow, gunned it to pass me, to swerve in front of me only to slam on the brakes right in front of me for the red light. She yelled "I have the car!" as I rode by. wtf?

For me it seems that some drivers are angry everyday

It seems random to me, though I notice people driving much worse on Fridays when I drive too. Doesn't seem to affect how they react to me on the bike.

hmm, it always seem like there are less people out on Fridays where I commute (I actually caught all the lights this morning!). I am close to a high school though, and I get more screams and yells on Friday afternoons than usual. freakin' punks

My new Airzound doesn't make them stop honking (though I rarely get honked at) but it does add a level of enjoyment to the "smile and wave" - I add in some quick, obviously friendly toots when they pass me yelling unintelligible martian words along with the smile and wave. It makes it more fun for me, at least.
Last night I actually use the Airzound for the first real purpose - an oncoming car started to pull out to pass the car in front of it, I gave a blast and he cut back in again. Probably should have had my headlight on, though it was a mostly-sunny day.

I don't think it is a Friday problem. Some drivers are just clueless morons that don't have a clue how to interact with anything other than an other car/bus/truck on the road. Just the other day I was in the last 1 mile of riding home on a local residential street with 30 MPH speed limit. There was a car coming up behind me and I have a car parked on the right side of the road in front of me. From quick look in my mirror I estimated that the car would start to pass me about the time I'd be next to the parked car. So I signal clearly that I am loving over to the left, and slowly move into the middle of the road so I can pass the car properly with enough car door clearance. As soon as I start to move left the guy start to honk at me even through he is still way behind me. As expected he passes me right as I am passing the parked car and he is completely over to the left side of the road. After I pass the car I quickly move over to the right side of the road as the remaining few hundred yard ahead look completely clear. The quy then stops the car and yels at me for riding in the middle of the road. I nicely tell him that I had to clear the parked car. Then he tells me that I should have stayed much closer to the car (the concept of avoiding car door is clearly completely missing in his mind)... the guy then proceeded onward only 20 more yards and then pull into a parking lot. Pathetic... I didn't care that he passed me, he gave me enough room, and there were no cars coming as this street is very quiet. He could have just coasted a little and not had to move over, but getting to his parking lot 10 seconds early was VERY important too him. The guy clearly needed a major "chill pill."
Happy riding,
André

Friday afternoons, I see a lot of cluelessness on the road. I think I may have even seen a few drivers ... doing things they shouldn't ... on Fridays. But I don't notice more anger with the coming weekend, just absent mindedness. That person who honked at you for changing lanes safely was probably having a bad day.

Some days are better than others. It doesn't matter what day of the week or what time. I never know what is going to happen

I take my vigilence to a slightly higher level on Friday afternoons/evenings. In my experience, way more adverse things seem to happen on the road on Fridays.

there's no specific day of the week that i'm aware of where motorists are more obnoxious and bone-headed than others, but i generally don't have a whole lot of bad encounters with motorists, except for cab drivers. they are without a doubt the worst of the worst.

Very close to what happened to me.
Mine was on a residential street, plenty of time for the moron to see me signaling my left turn and slow down.
I had just started into the left turn when the guy speeds up and passes me on the LEFT (yikes!) continued on to the end of the block and turned (right) into his driveway in the middle of the next block.
I'm so glad I didn't slow him down for the 2 seconds (or less) it would have taken me to get out of his way.

Every day is Friday around here. The few roads I have to cross and other areas I encounter cars makes me grateful that 95% of my commute is on MUPs. Of course, on MUPs I encounter unleased dogs, clueless peds, ipod zombies, and the like, but at least they don't generally cause severe injury or death.

I know many say Friday is worse than other days, but I honestly can't say this is true for me. It seems that I may encounter a bad apple or two on any day of the week.

To follow up, I ended up approaching my apartment right around peak traffic hour (5 o'clock). There was a massive headwind of 15 gusting to 30 on my final stretch home. Remembering the incident earlier this morning on that same stretch, I said screw it and rode the sidewalk at 5mph for the last stretch. No shame. Traffic was heavy and people like to do 50+ in that 2-lane 40 zone. Ugh.
