Nice. So today I rode in the street right next to a railroad (previous two commutes I... *gulp*, salmoned up the sidewalk on the other side of the street; there's sidewalk on the south side, railroad on the north side), because I was feeling confident enough to ride in the street down a very busy road for the first time. Anyway, as I was passing a stationary train, I suddenly realised that they sometimes let out very loud sounds, as had happened the first two trips. Luckily I was across the street those times so the noise wasn't ear-drum shattering.

However, today, since I was riding on the correct side of the road, I was probably 15 feet away from the engine. I braced myself to handle a loud horn blast. But it didn't blast the horn, no. It made an even louder high pitched air decompression sound, probably from some brake system or something. Loud as hell, hurt my right ear. Sigh. Did he really have to do that right as I was passing?

Commute home. First time I made it back without feeling like I was dead. Made it back in 87 minutes, which is how long it took me to get to work last week. For reference, to work is downhill, back home is uphill. So I'm getting better at this. No incidents, no rain as predicted, 82 degrees. I feel awesome.

A little warm (about 80), a little humid, but a very nice ride. I rode the route I started riding on years ago. I dont know if I had rode it since or not. Anyway, it was very pleasant and I remember back then thinking about just making it to work. So much stronger a rider now than I was then, but still slow. hehe.

Nice rides out and back yesterday.

Was almost taken out by a car door this morning...funny how that moment in time seems to freeze. Otherwise a good ride in, a bit earlier than usual so light traffic.

My neighborhood listserv is awash with debate on whether or not runners should be using the bike lanes. The actual debate started with a plea from runners to go with traffic when running in the bike lanes.

I see both sides as a runner and a rider...but I'd prefer for my running friends to stick with the sidewalks.

Almost chilly out side, was 49f when I left had to put a long sleeve shirt on. Should prove to be a decent day highs in the mid 80's, I'm not sure who to blame for the crazy mild summer we're having in Boise but I would love to shake their hand, I was cold every morning till mid june, I'm sure we'll pay for it this winter.

I let the forecasters scare me out of riding yesterday with their predictions of severe thunderstorms, which never materialized, since my fendered bike is still in the shop. So I rode 30 miles from home after work. My legs were a bit tired as a result during my morning commute today. The extreme heat is creeping back into the Eastern US, with our highs expected to hit 97 today, 100 tomorrow and 103 on Friday. How nice.

Third commute in a row with a headwind. At least the morning headwind has been dry and relatively cool. A lot less sweat building up and soaking into clothes on the morning ride as a result.

Legs are still a little tired after my 150 loaded miles in the heat this weekend. At least on the commute they are. I think they got used to the mileage and would work better if I were going more than 7 miles...

Great commute yesterday (only my third so far). The heat in the Chicagoland area has finally subsided. Can't wait for my next commute day, Thursday.

I didn't commute to work this morning because our electricity was still out and my bike was trapped in the garage. Out here in Western Mass there was a nasty thunderstorm yesterday just an hour and a half after I rode my bike home from work. About 9,000 residents had power outage and this morning there were still about 3,000 without power. Most should have their electricity back by this afternoon, I know our house did.

So out of frustration of having no Internet for 1 and a half day I rode my bike through the Ashuwillticook Trail (20 miles total). I will commute tomorrow to work for sure.

For the fifth morning in a row (you'd think I'd learn by now...), the Hudson River bike path has been closed due to a fire at the Riverbank State Park sewage treatment plant. The park on top of the plant has reopened, but the path that goes *around* it has not. That would be fine, if only city officials had the presence of mind to put up detour signs for the bike commuters. Once we hit 145th St, our only option is to huck over the equivalent of about six flights of stairs to Riverside Dr., or backtrack 1/2 a mile to illegally use the handicapped ramps at 158th St to get up to Riverside Dr.

Efforts to get any info on the situation have been pretty futile...

Had my first commute ever today. Only 2.5 miles from my house to school. I checked the route with another guy in my class who I know bikes, and everything was seamless. I loved it and can't wait to do it again tomorrow.

PS I'm so new at this I was very much entertained at the idea of me riding in the lanes as if I were a car. Great fun.

Nice ride home last night, had to go a long way out of my way for road construction. dang superbowl. I have been riding through a really really bad neighborhood due to this construction. I should not ride through there, but talk about strangeness, on these 90+ degree days you never know what you might see there. Interesting.

Robyr, I hope you are ok, and not nursing any injuries.

It is another nice ride in at 72 F (22 C). I am starting to see a regular rider along my route in the opposite direction that I had not seen before. It is always good to have regular riders, regardless of the time. The morning darkness is really starting to overtake whatever light that is left.

I broke my longstanding policy and rode today even though the forecasted high temp is supposed to top 100 F. It got up to 97 yesterday and didn't feel too bad, plus humidity levels aren't extremely high, so I decided it was worth a shot. However, I plan to drive tomorrow because it's supposed to top out about 105, which could tie or break our all-time record high.

I got completely soaked riding in the rain this morning...to the point my shoes were squishy on the down strokes...but hey I didn't drive and the lightening was pretty infrequent and mostly cloud to cloud...or that's what I kept telling myself anyways...Another enjoyable bike commute!

Another nice ride in, headwinds finally gone. Was a lovely evening ride after a long day at work last night.

Locker room abuse in my building, management threatening to revoke access to the showers...I blame the ladies! They had three bags of stuff removed overnight from the day-lockers. This could seriously screw up my commuting.

Woke up, saw the weather report. Said 80% chance of thunderstorms from 4-7pm... cancelled the planned bike commute.

Got stuck in a traffic jam on the way to work, cursed my decision. Sitting here at work right now wishing I cycled in. Sigh.

Tried to take it easy this morning so I don't break out in too bad of a sweat. My plan didn't work... I was soaked in sweat to the point that it was difficult to see through the lenses of my glasses and I was dripping onto the elevator floor. Sat in front of my desk fan at full blast and eventually cooled down and dried off after about 20 minutes. It sure will be nice once the company finishes construction on the new work out room and showers (probably next year).
