Ride in Sunday morning was great, except for the one d-bag who honked at me on E st., approximately 4 car-lengths and 30 seconds before he turned off of the road anyway. Also got honked at Friday night, the same evening that my lady got the old "get on the sidewalk", from a woman in an SUV running an early red, no less. I know that carrying a gun would only get me in trouble, and would probably result in a violation of certain philosophic principles while under the influence of idiot-induced road rage; but I wish that I could carry and use a tranquilizer equipped dart gun on some of these impatient fools. Seriously people, calm down; we're all gonna get where we're going, there's no need for temper tantrums.
Ride home was meh; several inches of 33º snow/slush and 25 mph winds, plus a belly full of food 'cause I was too hungry after my shift ended to wait until I got home (fresh made macaroni and cheese from scratch with bacon, jalapeños, pepperoncinis, and pepperjack cheese, chased with a pint Moose's Tooth's IPA is only the best thing ever, until you have to ride home in a headwind).

Cold this morning, 23F (-5C), but on the whole it has been a warmer year than last year. The moon was bright and did a nice job lighting up the darker streets and abandoned areas. I wore my light hood, but I will re-evaluate tomorrow. Everything else seemed to stay warm, but just warm.

First day on a bike to a new job. Pros of the new job: only 4 miles away, and all downhill in the morning, so no more worrying about sweat on the way in.
Cons: only four miles each way, so much less actual riding.

Cold morning about 32F but didn't feel as cold as riding yesterday in late morning, in the sun, temps in upper 30s to low 40s but with a bitter north wind. Not much wind this morning or it must have been at my back. It also clouded up overnight, which kept the temperatures from falling as much as expected. Waiting for the next "level" of coldness to hit, which would be morning lows consistently in the 20s. So far, our coldest temps have been in the upper 20s and low 30s.

Back spasms in El Paso, no riding today - as a matter of fact no going to work at all. It's great to be the boss! My poor bike thinks I forgot about him

32F/0C with a light tailwind. Saw a couple of cyclists going the other way.
Sigh... I was putting my Ice Spikers on the old rat bike on Saturday. They go on the rims easily. No tools required to mount. Usually I inflate a little, and check the bead. Make sure it's seated right. This time I spaced and inflated right up to 60PSI. Mistake #1.
Spun the wheel. Noticed the bead was outside the rim in one place. Ack. Mistake #2 was not immediately flatting the tire to try again. I walked out of the room to wash my hands, and the tube let loose like a shotgun.
Soooo I replaced the tube with one of my many spares, only to discover the wheel now has a bad wobble. I'm not sure whether the rim itself is destroyed, or if the wheel just got knocked out of true from the explosion. It's an old piece-of-#(@* department store bike from a yard sale that I paid $20 for 10 years ago. I suppose I'll take it to the LBS and see if they can fix or replace. Seems like a waste.
This week looks dry and/or ice-less, so there's no immediate rush.

44F This morning, excellent ride in. This weekend I picked up a rear flashing light and a front light...safety first! I went on a 20mile ride this weekend with one of my more experienced cycling buddies. Helped me feel a lot more comfortable on the road as I am new to cycyling. Gonna shoot for 6miles on the ride home after the gym. This week I am going to shoot for 5/5 commutes in on the bike as I move toward being car free. However, this week is looking like it might rain a bit so it will be my first venture on the road in the rain. Time to bring out the wet weather gear. Wish me luck

Raining here in Los Angeles on my morning commute, but thankfully not too cold (51 - 52 deg.F). The little tires (16") on my folder were squirming around on the wet surfaces, esp. over white lines and RR tracks, but overall not bad. Folding and un-Folding wet bike, no problem.
Got one of the end-seats on the Green-Line Metro, so actually got to sit down with my bike folded in front of my knees. That almost never happens!
Hung wet clothes on bike so they can dry out in the warm environment in my office (thankfully my Rack Trunk is water-resistant)!
Ride home started in the rain but was not raining (streets still wet though) as I rode home from the Metro station into a gusty headwind.

Wow. 39F this morning, well above the average high for this time of year. I forgot how well the legs work in such heat. :-) The 22.5 miles to work rolled by much faster than those of the past couple of weeks. There's not much left of last weekend's five inches of snow.

-7C with a light headwind this morning. The relatively warm weather is supposed to continue all week.
My wool outer glove has gotten quite mangled from riding, and has become much less warm. I've not had much luck finding a replacement. Everyone seems to just sell the partial finger with flip over mitt style ones.
I now have 1000 miles on each of my 3 bikes for the year. If I don't get too lazy after finals are done, I should be able to get to 5000 miles total riding for the year.

25F, blinding sun, sparkly ice every step of the way. No traction issues, so that was nice. I guess I'll mount the studs after I fall rather than before, this year.
My 6 yr old wore a dress w/ just regular tights, she was complaining about cold legs, but her part of the trip is pretty short. And the 10 yr old didn't wait for us at the bike rack, he just went straight into school.

15-20 degrees this am, but nice. No wind, no too much black ice, and the roads are clear of snow (we haven't had much yet). My bike is starting to complain more and more, specifically the exhausted bottom bracket. I may have to pack it in soon for some much needed repairs. I'm trying to make it to the end of the month.

Find a long way home (but maybe wait until spring) :-)
High 20s today, but I braved it without the Balaclava, and I think that was wise - I was sweating just a little by the time I arrived. Slowest ride I can remember, but some of that was probably the wonky shifting caused by the screwed up rear drivetrain. I think I'll ride the MTB until the shop gets the new RD in, as I don't want to cause more damage.
I get to ride again tomorrow, and then I might have to take a couple of days off for holiday festivities - needing to be dressed up doesn't always work so well with biking (for me). I'm still considering, though, as I feel like it is semi criminal to pass up a sunny day without a really good reason.

Not bad. I wore no technical clothing at all and bundled up, instead. I was a tad too bundled up.
I don't think I encountered a single rude driver, today. Oh, scratch that. 1 rude driver who would have right hooked me had he/she turned right from the left travel lane any sooner after passing me. I just shook my head and kept spinning.

4 more inches of dense, heavy snow this morning made for a bus day. Helped push two cars out of parking spaces on my way to the bus stop this morning, then the bus itself was 20 minutes late, making me 10 minutes late for my math final. Walking home from the bus stop was "fun":

There's a sidewalk underneath that, probably a foot or so down. And the city wonders why more people don't use public transportation.

Had the day off and wanted to do a nice leisurely ride around town running errands and just goofing off but had to fix my front brake first. One of the levers on the V-brake was very sticky. After messing with it for a while I decided to tear it down and relube, straighten the spring etc. but then I discovered the spring was broken. Went to a nearby shop and, "No, we don't sell just the spring. You need a whole new brake." Man, what happened to bikes and bike shops since I used to work in them? If I didn't have a part like that I would have had a box in the back of used V-brakes and parts, dragged it out, pulled out a spring or, if I was busy, had the customer sort through and find what they needed and either made up a price that seemed fair or looked up the part and charged wholesale cost for the part. A good, regular customer would have gotten the part for free.
Since I didn't feel like going all over town for the part and I did need new blocks I bought the brake for $20. Then I cleaned up the old brake, sans one spring, put it in the box and rode over to Recycle-A-Bicycle on Avenue C- a non-profit bike recycling shop that teaches people in the neighborhood to repair bikes and people either "earn" a bike by doing repairs or build one at low cost for themselves or buy them at a pretty reasonable cost. I gave them the old brake- they couldn't have been happier with the donation. I should have gone there in the first place I'd probably have been able to get a spring there for about a $1.
Got a great ride in after that. The new brake works great. And I'm loving my new Keen Austin shoes. Best commuter walk-a-bout shoe I've ever had.

Just a typical cold morning at 24F (-4C). Heavy traffic, but no known reason why; it just happens. The moon is still nice and bright as we head into the winter solstice. This is a personal winter favorite, as it puts me on the other side of the light coming back and even more pleasurable, warmer days.

24F/-4C, calm wind. Traffic lighter than usual. I did have one doofus in a BMW decide to engage his right turn signal at a stop sign after I was next to him (on the right) in the bike lane. Since he was there first, I let him go, and he did see me and was making sure I was stopped, so I'll overlook the late turn indicator. This time.

Temperature hovering right at the freezing mark for the second day in a row, with a cold north wind. Fortunately the wind was at my back most of way to work this morning, but it made my afternoon commute difficult yesterday. Noticed my stock of clean shirts was getting low yesterday, so I strapped my larger Carradice bag (Pendle) to my bike last night and carried two clean shirts to work this morning along with my usual food and gear. I will probably drive tomorrow due to a Christmas dinner downtown after work, and I doubt if I'll feel like riding 16 miles in the cold and dark at 8 pm after eating and drinking a few beers. I am so close to topping 4,000 miles commuting for the year that I am tempted to ride, but I'll still have two more workdays to ride this week.
