A handful of everything on this mornings commute, about 4C/40F with clouds, wind, rain and snow. Took it easy this morning because I pushed myself on the ride home last night.

35F sunny clammy

First time riding in the rain (it rains in Orange County?). Surprisingly stress-free, all things considered. Problem is I'm still using my department store mountain bike

LBS ordered the correct size frame for me - I'll be picking up a 2011 Allez Elite Compact this weekend. My first real bike!

Oh, and first post. :D

Rained buckets last night so wet streets but clearing skies. Rode the fendered fixed gear today. It's been awhile, and I'd forgotten how much I love riding that old rust bucket.

Congrats on the new frame and welcome!

First time on the bike in weeks! did a shortish 8 mile route to new temporary office (Union Station area). Discovered another reason why Bike Lanes aren't all they're cracked up to be -- can't turn left from the bike lane on Constitution Ave., apparently! Need to refine my route, I think. On the plus side, my bike gets to live here in the office with me :-)

Won't get to ride tomorrow or Friday, as I am working in Baltimore :-(

Lost my superflash rear light on the ride in this morning. :( E-mailed my wife about it when I got to work. She e-mailed me back at lunch to say she found it in the road. :) She's awesome.

You know, you drop one of those and you think they're gone forever. But then again, they sit in the road and FLASH. That makes pretty easy to find.

She found it about 6 hours after I lost it, so I was surprised nobody else had picked it up yet.

38f, some pretty strong gusts, but nice overall. The ride home is looking like 55-ish and a little breezy.

Fizzaly 02-16-11 03:28 PM

It was 48f this morning at 5am on my way in, now about to leave work and its 33f and just got done snowing?? who the hell ordered winter to come back?

Or run over it with their car. That's the fate that befell my Superflash that had fallen off. :(

Up hill + strong headwind + 20lbs bag = LONGEST MILE EVER.

jdgesus 02-16-11 08:51 PM

missed all the rain today. LOVE IT

Doohickie 02-16-11 09:09 PM

Intellicast warned me about 16 mph headwinds, but failed to mention the 24 mph gusts. :/

I made decent time, though. My knew has been bothering me the last few days, including this morning's ride, but it seemed a little better on the ride home. My ride usually registers about 9000 steps on my pedometer. This evening, into the wind, it clicked about 12,000. That's come kind of wind.

Me too. They said it was only a 20% chance of rain this morning, but I rode through some wet areas that had apparently been rained on.

Also this morning... In the inky darkness, I made out the form of a dog approaching the road. I saw it was trotting in the road and thought it was coming at me. His head looked HUGE. I got out my water bottle and kept my line (thinking that moving further away would look like I was fleeing and inducing a chase). I passed withing about 6 feet of him and I thought he decided to come at me, so I let him have it with the water bottle. It was then, as he yipped in surprise, that I realized what I thought was a big head was really a paper bag with stuff in it that he apparently pulled out of a garbage can. I think he was going away from me and never knew I was there until he got wet.

Poor doggie!

I managed to miss all kinds of weather, within twenty mins. of me getting home earlier it rained, began to thunder and lighting than hailed then snow for half an hour now it's below freezing. And to think at 5am this morning it was almost 50 I officially hate winter.:)

NBYRDR 02-16-11 11:18 PM

Today's commute sucked.

Get out to the end of the street and fall over. Couldn't get me cleat out fast enough. Have nice road rash, damage is only superficial.

3 miles into the ride and I have a flat tire, first flat.....crap

Tire is holding some air, so decided to see how much air it will hold.....as I'm pumping the valve stem breaks off and leaves a piece in the pump. Call up the wife to pick me up on the way to work.

Fix the tire at work. Get on my way and get a pinch flat on the way home. I pump up air every 2 blocks so I can keep rolling since I was 1/2 way home. Well, the tube called it quits. Had to stop and repair as the sun was setting. Managed to get home, but was pooped from lack of sleep, lack of food (busy day), and long work day.

Weather was beautiful.

Can't wait to for the commute tomorrow. :D:thumb:

That sucks NBYRDR.

I had a great ride in today. The weather has been nice lately so buddies at the office are joining in on the rides. I rode in with my brother (7 years younger) today. When I met him, said that he had thown up this morning and that he wanted to take it easy. Taking it easy lasted a few miles untill we passed a train stopped at the station and he said we should try to beat it to the next station. We beat it (I'm hoping it was not broken down at the station). After that we noticed that we were making good time so decided to keep pushing it the remaining 4 miles of so. We had an 18.6 mph avg over the 12.5 miles (that's pretty good for me). Thanks 16 mph tailwind and 24 year old!

Fizzaly 02-17-11 08:28 AM

26f Snow, slush, ice and slop. My winter bike is currently out of order due to ive been lazy and the weather has been nice, so I tried riding the kuwie with slicks made it about a mile and gave up waited for the bus and just dealt with being late today:(

HardyWeinberg 02-17-11 10:13 AM

32F and ... I don't even know what to call the combination of penetrating mist and blinding sun

I managed to delay going to get my kids from their after-school Y-Care until after the last shower so I didn't have to listen to my 6 yr old complain all the way home how she was never going to ride her own bike again. Hopefully she rides again today so I don't need to stop for the trail-a-bike before going on to retrieve them.
