man, the wind on the way home was insane!

at one point, the crosswind was so strong, i was leaning at about 15deg LOL
then i turned 90deg on the MUP with a tail wind and i didn't even have to pedal, i was accelerating! LOL

they were saying it was 60mph gusts, i believe it..
i was actually laughing at how ridiculous it was

tarwheel 03-11-11 07:23 AM

Nice commute this morning with temps in the upper 30s but a little windy for this time of day, which means this afternoon will probably be very windy. I drove yesterday because it rained all day with threat of severe thunderstorms, and I needed to restock supplies in my office, take home laundry and run some errands in my truck. My mileage YTD is finally back to normal after a slow start due to ice and snow in early January.

32f Nice morning, was storming all night and thankfully let up.

truman 03-11-11 08:41 AM

Really nice ride in today. I'll take a few dozen more of the same, please. Supposed to be a nasty header going home though - ~30mph

gwpowers 03-11-11 08:51 AM

Today was my first time to commute. It was really nice but like truman we're supposed to get some pretty stiff wind this afternoon.

I had to get out and test the waters this morning, I'll be commuting regularly here in about a week or two. It's definitely worth it, it only took me an extra 3 minutes to make it to work riding instead of hopping in the Jeep.

Steely Dan 03-11-11 09:06 AM

still chilly and windy on the ride in this morning, but at least the sun was out for the first time this week. that's always a nice psychological boost.

walnutz 03-11-11 09:30 AM

The awesome commuting weather continues here in the ATX.

At least you have access from work. Corporate firewalls be damned! I've been relegated to my semi-smart phone.

anyway, wow one heck of a headwind to battle all the way home.

You are right about that! Had to spin along in middle chainring and middlish to low gear on the flats at times to maintain momentum.

Nicer ride in this AM, but naturally the wind has swung around so it was another headwind, though not nearly as bad as last nights. Still cloudy but the rain has stopped. Some flooding debris (small branches, mud, etc.) on the trail along a creek.

Ride home tonight and then immediately off on a road trip down South for some time w/ friends and family. Looking fwd to four days off next week!

W I N D Y this morning. 40mph sustained winds with 60mph gusts. I was riding into the wind (maybe slight cross wind). I had to stop a couple of times and put my foot down. Fortunately my main route has extremely wide shoulders (~10ft). My usual 50 minutes commute was 1h 20m.

Amazing 0C ride this morning on clear but frosty roads with a 30-40km/h tail wind. The temperature is supposed to drop during the day and should be around -10C by the time I leave school. I hope the wind forecast for this afternoon is correct. Its 50 gusting to 70km/h now but is supposed to be just 30km/h this afternoon.

Since we don't have DST here I will start seeing the sunrise during next week's commute. For most of you who started seeing some light in the morning this week, it should be gone on Monday.

Raleigh GP 08 03-11-11 10:17 AM

Pleasant ride in this morning after the deluge of rain yesterday. Path and roads are still a little damp, but temps were great and wind was light. Didn't need the headlight this morning as the sun is coming up early now, but that will change for next week after we move the clock forward an hour this weekend.

HardyWeinberg 03-11-11 10:49 AM

35F, gray, deep puddles and a lot of downed branches from last night's gusher

dcb23 03-11-11 11:09 AM

W I N D Y again!

I must have sensitive eyes because I just tear up under anything but still conditions. Too warm for my ski goggles though.

EKW, gotta love that double whammy headwind huh?

gecho 03-11-11 04:27 PM

Wind didn't ease as forecast, 60km/h alternating head wind / cross wind the whole way home. About 2/3 the way home I had to stop and put my windbreaker on (first time this year) when I got to a wide open section of the park.

Sixty Fiver 03-11-11 04:55 PM

Someone told me it was -30 C this morning... it was a pretty lonely ride as I only saw one other cyclist over 10 km.

fletchh 03-14-11 04:46 AM

Somewhere around 30 F ( -1 C) this morning, and not bad. Easy ride in. Back to the dark after the daylight savings change.

JoeSoMD 03-14-11 05:41 AM

First ride of the year for me! Glad the winter is over!

Way to go!

^^ What Fletch said.

So I forked out the xtra cas this weekend for a fancy pump, Serfas FP-200. Wow, what a difference, I've been using my cheapo hand pump since Septmeber, the pressure gaugue said I had only 40psi per tire!

I learned a lesson when I bought two cheap headlamps a few weeks back...one is already malfunctioning. Gotta get the right gear.

tarwheel 03-14-11 05:59 AM

My legs were tired this morning from riding a lot of miles last week, including 60 on Sunday, but the weather gave me a boost. Temps were in the mid-40s with a stiff tailwind much of the way to work, so I made good time considering how tired my legs were. The pollen is getting thick here, and I could see it in my headlight beam ... thought it was lightly raining at first.

I almost forgot to mention the time change. I am so used to riding in the dark during my morning commute, that I hardly noticed the change, even tho it had been getting pretty bright for my morning ride until now. Weirdly, I didn't have any trouble getting up at my usual time (5:30 am) even tho it was actually 4:30 am and I didn't go to sleep until nearly midnight last night.

Fizzaly 03-14-11 07:30 AM

48f raining, im in the same boat this moring as tarwheel I did a few too many miles on the MTB this weekend add that to losing an hour of sleep and blah!

gecho 03-14-11 07:35 AM

-6C with a 25km/h headwind, which didn't feel too bad. I'm glad I decided to wear the googles and respirator this morning. +3C and a good tailwind forecast for the ride home. It is supposed to be near freezing all this week, so I'll try to ride Tuesday / Thursday as well even though I don't have any classes.

Figured out right outfit for the temp swing... (I think...) and riding in was good.
Microweight Merino Shirt, Arm warmer (which I got over weekend), bike short riding in at 42F was just about right. I can shed arm warmer on the afternoon and it should be good. Now while waiting for train in that same temp... Gotta figure that one out...

HardyWeinberg 03-14-11 10:44 AM

42F raining

CptjohnC 03-14-11 11:17 AM

Lots of bikes out! I guess the clock change is enough to encourage lots of folks.

Karma smacked me in the butt this morning. I was planning to ride my 'medium' length (12 mile each way) route this morning, but my daughter was running a little late, so I switched gears for the 'short' (8 mile/ea way) route. But when I got to 'my' parking area, it was closed for some road work (which may or may not have been posted on Friday, which was the last time I parked there!). Had to regroup, go back to the 12 mile route, but of course I added 15 extra minutes in the car driving too and from the 'short' route parking. I enjoyed the extra 20 minutes on the bike, but the total extra minutes mean I'll be staying late tonight.

Took advantage of nice weather this weekend and took the boys out for a nice 'fun' ride.
