Standalone 03-09-11 11:03 AM

29F 9mph headwind. Toes were freezing-- the little Pearl Izumi toe cozies I bought definitely don't fit over my shimano MTB shoes. :(

My folder's cheap 26" rear wheel is way out of true. No truing stand at home. Clunk-a-sonic Panasonic commuter has been flatting and is awaiting new tires.

Took the Jamis out. Also already had my clothes at work, so a lighter load. Best time ever-- 55m30 over a busy, stoplight filled 16.38 miles. Best previous time has been around 57-58m. I like the new technology on the bike (I guess), but it's not really all that much faster than a 30 year old high ten bike, when you account for the lighter bag I had.

evof3nd3r 03-09-11 11:41 AM

Excellent.

I decided to mash up all hills and went from a 35 to 40 minute commute down to 28 minutes. That was fun!

We'll see how the ride back is in the afternoon...

canyoneagle 03-09-11 11:45 AM

Grrrr.
Still off the bike so far this week.
The whole family came down with some lung-based wickedness last week. Fever, chills, coughing, headache, yuck.
I'm better now, but there is a lingering tightness in my lungs and mild head congestion. It has been 10 days! C'mon!!!!!

caloso 03-09-11 11:47 AM

It's going to be a really long day at the office today so I'm glad I was able to get out of the house early and extend my commute. I know you guys know what I mean.

jdgesus 03-09-11 12:11 PM

officially switched to my spring attire...

wisaunders 03-09-11 03:58 PM

For the ride home:

Sunny, 62F
Wind: From NW at 19mph gusting to 26mph

That's all tailwind for me baby, can't wait!

bored117 03-09-11 04:24 PM

It's that time of year with 40 degree temperature swing in a day.
Winter in the early morning, early summer in the afternoon, spring on ride back to home.
Bit chilly in the morning after ride, too hot on afternoon ride, just about right for the time back to home... (not that it matters as I will sweat like pig on the uphill).
Still trying to nail down layers to manage this wild fluctuating temp in a day.

ZManT 03-09-11 10:37 PM

I'm liking being able to go with the spring kit for the homeward ride . . ..
sure will be stoked to leave the heavy gloves, balaclava, tights, shoe covers, etc . . at home

Temps are decent this morning, 45 F ( 7 C). There is a steady rain, but it didn't get heavy. It is supposed to have periods of heavy rain, which is fine as long as I am riding in the other periods. I was dressed and packed for the rain, so no issues with wetness. Lots of lights, so no excuses for drivers.

51f Was almost in shock as I walked out the door, very nice temp strong head wind all the way into work though.

Austin has had pretty awesome commuting weather for the last few weeks. Cool in the mornings, sunny, and not too hot in the afternoons. Is this what San Francisco is like all the time?

ZManT 03-10-11 08:44 AM

blustery but mild - saw a juvenile robin scurrying along the path - a sure sign of spring

Don't say it you'll doom us into more winter:) but seriously I can't wait 8th street has been calling my name for weeks now I really need to get the MTB up there.

truman 03-10-11 08:48 AM

Beautiful morning, but damned if I didn't feel like I could barely turn over the pedals. I guess I did okay, because I got to the train quite early, but Jeeze, I felt SLOW.

EKW in DC 03-10-11 09:08 AM

RAINY! It wasn't coming down in buckets yet, but there's already a little flooding, which is omenous since the heaviest rain is supposed to come this afternoon. Should make for an interesting commute home. At least it was warm enough that I didn't really care about getting soaked (which I did). Still felt good to get cleaned up and put on dry clothes at work, though.

daijoubu2k8 03-10-11 09:39 AM

Beautiful ride home yesterday in the sun, 12C/56F. Not enough room in my bag to pack home my dirty towel, clothes and cold weather gear so I was overdressed.

This morning was 7C/46F and I was not prepared. I was soaked when I got in, worse than a rainstorm. I think it's time to take a few layers out of the morning rotation.

HardyWeinberg 03-10-11 10:02 AM

45F, raining; not as much headwind as yesterday

Steely Dan 03-10-11 10:24 AM

wind, wind, wind, wind, wind, wind, and even more wind screaming at me the whole way right at my 12 o'clock out of the NNW buzzing right down the lakefront. if that wind pattern holds all day, my ride home should be wicked fun. <fingers crossed>

ace587 03-10-11 10:44 AM

beautiful 80 south Florida sunshine :D

jdgesus 03-10-11 11:59 AM

tons of energy this morning! it "was" gonna be great! on track to make my 21m route in 1h10m but TWO BLOCKS from my studio, navigating some slippery brick, i laid 'er down.

was going pretty slow, and only broke a buckle on my rain chaps. an almost perfect commute

plus side, i had a great breakfast when i got here.

caloso 03-10-11 12:25 PM

First morning commute of the year without gloves. Spring is coming!

noisebeam 03-10-11 02:40 PM

First morning without kneewarmers. It's 85 now (1:40pm) and expected to be 88 by the time I ride home. Summer is coming!

edit: It's 2:15 now and 89F, sure to hit 90F

dcb23 03-10-11 05:06 PM

hmm not sure if my posts from work are going through..anyway, wow one heck of a headwind to battle all the way home and the rain started up about two blocks from home. But it was a warm wind!

Fizzaly 03-10-11 06:29 PM
