Definitely. Fridays from north of Seattle are always wretched, and this rain was icing on the cake. I've had worse though (one or more mountain passes closed, for instance).

I rode out to the university today to listen to a guest lecturer this afternoon. It was the inverse of my normal experience, light on the way in and dark on the way home. It was snowing / light rain for the ride home which was pleasant aside from the water on my glasses. My leather palmed gloves turn out to be a pretty decent squeegee.

I saw some women dressed up as geishas as I was getting ready to leave. I just occurred to me now that it was probably part of a Japan fundraiser. I see odd things at the university all the time so I didn't think much of it at the time.

Windy morning but it was a warm wind so no problem. 50 degrees+ going up even higher today. Lots and lots of runners out this a.m.

Fizzaly 04-04-11 06:37 AM

45F windy, rode the kuwie in today, and made the mistake of stand tuning her and not test riding it yesterday, turns out I need a cassette quite badly the chain skips upon any pressure in gears 2-6 out back:( oh well 6k miles out of a 14 dollar cassette isn't too bad at all

-8C and a light tailwind today, so I was able to wear a bit less. Still on the mountain bike waiting for an update on the rear derailleur of my touring bike.

Yesterday afternoon I decided to overhaul the rear wheel including the freehub on the mountain bike. My lack of proficiency ensured that it took the majority of the afternoon. I needed to use a rubber mallet on the 10mm hex wrench to get the freehub off as it hasn't been removed in 16 years. Last year I needed to use an air impact wrench to loosen the original bottom bracket.

I also pulled the chain off to clean, mostly because I wanted to try out the chain tool on my bike multitool. I think I may want to include a short bungie cord in my emergency kit for pulling the rear derailleur forward to give the chain some slack when trying to push the pin back in. I noticed that the rubber cement in my patch kit has mostly dried out. I guess the cap doesn't provided an air tight seal.

30MPH headwind with gusts up to 41 made for an interesting and slow ride in today. At least the rain was gone.

"Interesting" is a word...

About 60 with a nice tail wind this morning. Made most of the green lights. Good ride in.

Gorgeous weather this morning - low 50s? Probably should have left the mid layer off. I rode a new PB on the commute (I won't embarrass myself by posting the speed, but a near 2 MPH increase to the average over 12 miles is pretty amazing for me). The real help, though, was that I hit almost all the lights :-)

Lots of other cyclists and other folks, so I expect the ride home will be VERY crowded. Supposed to be near 80, so tee shirt and shorts only, I think :-)

Yay Spring! 51F, bright sunshine, light breeze. I love this time of year.

tarwheel 04-04-11 01:41 PM

One thing you can say about Spring weather -- it's interesting. The weather really warmed up today after lows in the 30s yesterday, with the temps already hitting the mid-80s. That's the nice part. The hard part is that the winds are blowing 25-30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. That should make for an interesting ride home. The pollen was so thick during my morning commute that it lit up in my headlight beam like snow flurries.

its a mess, esp the bike lane re-route.. got turned around a few times :(

dude - that is the construction leading up to 1) the Port Terminal 46 flyover access bridge and 2) getting ready to close down part of the viaduct/99 for potential tunnel rebuild and access to the city.

It's a mess but I have to say it's not so bad on a bike once you've been through it once or twice. Just hold your lane and ride strong.

Meanwhile, this weather is really starting to tick me off. I don't mind the rain so much but the cloud cover is so thick it's dark all day long.

Awesome commutes today. This morning it was 41F with rain and winds from the SE @ 5mph and also made really great time. 48F and overcast with winds from the S @ 3mph this evening. The rain was done but the roads were pretty wet coming home.

dcb23 04-04-11 06:15 PM

what a ride home..must have been close to 80 as predicted. Crazy South to North wind caught me sideways, and joggers and hordes of tourists, and bikes everywhere.

jdgesus 04-04-11 07:51 PM

80?! damn.

i think it was like 45, and wet on teh way home. really wet.

bike i was on doesn't have full fenders, feet got soaked

I mind the rain. I hate rain. But this morning, to my surprise, it didn't rain on me and the ground was dry. The air smelled good and I really enjoyed the ride into Dallas. And I'd had several days off from riding so even the hills felt pretty easy. I hope this becomes a trend for me.

fletchh 04-05-11 04:49 AM

It was a warm ride in at 65 F ( 18 C). It was my first morning in shorts, but it will be shortlived as the temps have already dropped. I got up and couldn't believe how warm it was, then as I was having my tea, the sky opened up with tons of water and thunder and lightning, but by the
time I got dressed and made my lunch, it was just raining. The birds and the frogs were both out, and it was just a pleasant ride in.

Many years ago, ok 35 years ago, I roomed with a Doug Panter from Dallas Oregon. This is the first time that I have seen mention of Dallas since that time.

After a tumultuous storm...a beautiful ride in. Wet but not raining, all the sounds of spring, little traffic. I think I need to savor these moments.

Fizzaly 04-05-11 06:53 AM

48f Raining, not a bad ride in, I think my rain pants are getting a little tired might be time to get some new ones.

tarwheel 04-05-11 07:20 AM

Pouring rain, 40 mph winds, tree limbs all over the streets. ... Call me a wuss, but I drove today.

truman 04-05-11 07:44 AM

About 7 degrees too cool to be 'perfect' but still danged nice.

Then I left my gloves on the train...

Chalupa102 04-05-11 08:01 AM

Hit 1,000 miles for the year and it was a good ride in this morning at 52F and dawn/overcast with winds from the S @ 14mph. I expected rain so I dressed for it, but it never happened even though the radar said it would. I didn't wear the jacket; just the pants with a short sleeve shirt, which was a good thing. If I had worn the jacket I would have definitely overheated. Early in the commute I had a pretty close call when a vehicle pulled out on me from a road to the left. I'm sure they saw me with all the lights I had running and either misjudged my speed or just didn't care. I was taking the lane getting ready to go through an intersection up ahead, so I had plenty of room to swerve to the right and hit the brakes, so it was no big deal really.
