Very nice. Mid 50'sF, nice and dark again (which I prefer to low sun).
Had a bit of a moment with a driver when turning into the parking area at work. the main public road is under major construction with a posted 25MPH limit, and orange barricades everywhere for several miles. Fortunately I only have .5 mile or so to contend with. Anyway, this jackass came buzzing up on my wheel at 40MPH or so (I tend to hold my speed at 23-25 on this section so in theory should be at prevailing traffic speed), and impatiently moved to the right to pass me (between cones) as I signalled for my left turn. Jackass. |
Just a regular commute this morning to the subway (6 miles). I grabbed another bike this time. Yesterday, I had #1 Raleigh Competition GS, today I got my Schwinn Prelude. BTW, this happened when I was downtown. After finishing my breakfast downtown, I am riding on the super wide pavement real slowly, and all of sudden, I stopped moving! WTF!! I was going slow enough to keep my balance. I look back and down, and my rear wheel/tire got caught in a groove in the pavement. The groove was just the right size to let my tire/wheel slip in and stop it!! :(
Anyway, no damage to the tire or wheel, and I didn't fall. ;) |
First commute in this week. A little cool for the first few miles (low 60s), but soon got warmed up and the rest of the ride in was great. Lots of wildlife sightings on the path this morning, ranging from a defiant turtle standing in the middle of the path, a rabbit that almost darted right into the side of my bike, to many deer who didn't seem to have much fear of the humans or the wheels. Just some of the things that make bike commuting a hundred times more pleasant than dealing with NoVA traffic in a car.

Get a longboard. |
Thermometer at my house read 2C/37F, but I think it was warmer by the time I got downtown. Wore pants today. Got off to a late start, had the blazing sun in my face for a good portion of the ride. Tail and cross winds. Felt sluggish today.

Heh. it was 80-something riding in this morning. It felt cooler when it was raining though; ran through sprinkles on and off. My first commute since June. Because of the heat this year (if we hit 100 today as forecast, we set the record for most number of 100-degree days ever), I've been getting my miles in riding at night instead of during the day. My wife's car is in the shop, though, and she has my car, so I just decided to ride.

Dark enough in the mornings now to start contemplating putting my helmet mounted light back on the helmet. At least it's not raining yet.
|
I got to work before daybreak.
|
About 3C when I left the house. I wore two of my merino sweaters. I could have wore just one, if they blocked the wind better. My back was too warm and front not quite warm enough.
Tomorrows forecast is calling for a 40-60 km/h tailwind for the ride home. I'll have to take highway route tomorrow to gain full advantage of the wind. |

We've had beautiful weather lately, but it's been getting cooler by the day. Monday, 65 F on the way in; yesterday, 55 F; today 45 F. I'm glad I went back in for my windbreaker. My hands and feet felt a bit cold, but I'm still wearing shorts, tee shirts, and converse all stars.
Frost warnings for tomorrow; might be 35 F on the way in. May have to wear pants and find gloves. |
60F and gray. Definitely headlight season. But, today I was later 'cause I rode the kids to school, so I still managed to avert a true *need* for the light (but I had it on anyway, unlike yesterday when I did need it)
ps-> I didn't forget anything yesterday morning or this morning but I did forget to bring my glasses home last night. |

I'm wondering of us (Edmonton vs Regina) will be the first to ride in sub-freezing temperatures this fall.

Went a little out of my way so I could ride and document one of the cities bikeways:

Nothing noteworthy. A little warm.
152 km to go for my lifetime 2500 km tattoo goal. 304 km to go for my 1000 km goal for 2011. |
70F at 6:00. Dark ride in - also thinking about getting my bright light charged up again. My "see me light" does not illuminate the road much.
I got home at a pretty good clip, despite some downhill coasting, about 80 degrees. I am going to be bummed when I can't bike in wearing shorts and a t-shirt soon. :-( |
Another super early ride in..thank goodness that's it for the need to be in early at work.
Temps are perfect in the am (high 60s) and very pleasant coming home. |
Nice ride in, but the rain is coming. So possibly a wet ride home.
|
I bit chilly, long sleeve undershrit, light jacket, cap under my helmet and full fingered gloves made it a very pleasant ride.

56F/13C, rain with gusty winds. Not too bad. My commute started off with a light rain/heavy drizzle and by the time I got to work, half an hour later, it was a light drizzle. The wind was gusty but not to the point that it interfered with the ride.
The only problem this morning, if you want to call it that, is I forgot to eat before I left. So, it was a lazy ride in this morning. |
Fell this morning. Almost hit a runner at a traffic light, then scraped the edge of a speed bump that made me wobble - but got through those two obstacles unscathed. Got to the office, showed my ID at the garage, coasted down the ramp to where I park and the parking guy walked out in front of me. Right foot unclipped, but turning and leaning left - I did an Artie Johnson. Bruised knee and bruised ego...
Otherwise, the weather is great. |
Light rain when I left, heavy showers by the time I reached the office. Pleasant for the most part. Hope the ride home is dry.
|
Broke out the cold weather gear for the ride this am...41 degrees, 8 mph headwind...so I donned...headband, lined sweats, wind proof jacket, ski gloves...only thing that started getting cold was my feet...I think I should double up my socks when it's in the 40s. Tough to remember all this from last Spring... Took it pretty slow...Another great day for a bike commute. Enjoy!

started with a jacket but after two kilometres the jacket went in my backpack because i was sweating like h*ll. Do you guys sweat a lot when riding? i like it best when its below 10 degrees celcius. Above that it becomes too hot to wear a jacket very soon
|
36 degrees this morning. I bundled up and stayed mostly warm except for my feet. I don't know if I took it slow or if the slow took me, but I felt like molasses. In spite of all that it was a very beautiful morning ride.
